- hey everyone,
Out bass fishing on this session. Was hard going with the weather, and having some camera issues. We did hit target with a lovely keeper bass, in amazing condition. Filming with as little light as possible meant the quality is not as it usually is. Hopefully it is still watchable
Hope you enjoy

Another great video! Your experience with circle hooks was the same as mine, i kept missing bites too. Fortunately i was with an experienced angler who put me right - you dont have to strike as that pulls the hook out of thr fishes mouth, let the bite develop & when you feel confident that the bait has been taken just apply pressure by winding in slowly. Do not strike, a J hook works by striking, a circle hook works by catching on the mouth as the hook turns under pressure. If you are going to take home what you catch stick with a J hook, but if you think you might catch a Bass too big to keep or you will be returning the fish, use a circle hook.
On another point, (no pun intended) if the Bass are that close in try using a lure at night. A patchinko 100 or Dolive stick in white are great night time lures and the bigger Bass will be closer in during darkness.
Come back soon Dylan, i really enjoy watching you, dont worry about doing something new each video, thats not relevant. We watch you cos you go thru the same pains that we all do, its like fishing alongside you.
Thanks buddy, some brilliant advice and tips in this comment, I love these comments. Super helpful, some really good info here👍👍🎣🎣🙏

An enjoyable watch..
Unable to get out much at the moment due to painful condition.
So watching is the next best thing..
Looking forward to casting out some lines again myself as soon as I'm able.. 👍
Thank you, and I'm really glad enjoyed. I hope you manage to get out again soon. The fishing seems to be pretty good at them moment, it's just finding a window in this weather👍🎣🎣
Great video again mate and well done on the bass 🎣👍👍
Thanks Ian buddy, much appreciated 👍🎣🎣
I completely agree with all the below. Your vid's are enlightening and funny, I look forward to them. Now your taking a break just as your catching proper fish. Have a nice break but hurry back. I'm sure we will all miss you.
Thanks Richard buddy, I really appreciate your comments buddy. Just finding it a bit hard at the moment, the every Friday upload is pretty hard going👍🎣🎣
Cheers, may I suggest you find your happy medium. That is either shorter vid's or longer vid's less often. ''BUT DON'T GIVE UP'' ( very selfish, we know )🤓🤓🤓
Great video I love the way you keep your camera on the road tips so we can see the bites... Danny from Dublin Ireland wishing you well
Thanks Danny mate, it is a bit of a nightmare to edit, but at least that way everyone gets to see everything I don't 😂😂👍👍🎣🎣
Well in Dylan that was a top bass bruvva top job ❤
Cheers dude, was a few hours on the making, but we got one in the end🎉🎉🎣👍
@@FrugalOutdoors yeah boi long as u get one don't matter how long a well In
Don’t you just love it when a plan comes together? Hope you have a good well deserved break. I expect Daisy & the kids are pleased as well. Until next time.
Thanks Chris, I don't know, if I don't fish, we don't get fresh fish for dinner😂. Was nice to hit target. I've been fishing pretty hard this year, that's the problem with being in contention with the league, I feel I have to fish every time. That and trying to get a video together for every Friday, it means fishing once a week. Maybe I should try and do some different videos. Always open to ideas😂👍👍🎣
Great video again 👏 👍
Yha is buddy, much appreciated 👍🎣🎣
Well done mate, super vid great result too, enjoy ya break n catch up soon
Thanks Nigel buddy, was great to hit target. Out tonight to see if I can get a couple of last chance bream before the go👍👍🎣🎣🤞🤞
Nice video Dylan that looked a very nice mark and well done on the Bass shame you are having a rest for a time 😢
Thanks Peter, it does seem to produce down there, both times I've been, I've had a bass or two, so I'll definitely be fishing it again before the end of the season. I just felt like I've been fishing really hard this year. In comps and pleasure fishing. But I reckon I'll get out tomorrow anyways, so hopefully I can get an upload together 😂😂👍🎣🎣
love watching you m8 its always great content keep it up Dylan
Thanks buddy, very kind and much appreciated, I'm glad you are enjoying buddy👍👍🎣🎣
Eyes in the back of your head when bass fishing Dylan!Bet that was a frustrating watch back for you,one of the best bass fishing videos ive watched,as you portray the frustrations of fishing for these sneaky buggers.
Thanks Martin buddy, yeah man, watching back it was head in hands moment. I thought I was on it 😂😂. Missed more than I saw I reckon. See you soon mate👍🎣🎣
Well done Dylan, great enthusiasm and a Bass to show for it.🐟🎣.
Thanks Rich, much appreciated 👍👍🎣🎣
I have just started watching your videos amazing keep them coming
Thank you very much, very kind and I'm glad you're enjoying 👍👍🎣
Well done mate, great Bass, great viewing.
Thanks Simon, much appreciated bud👍🎣🎣
A well presented and enjoyable video, it reminded me of my fishing when I was much younger, with big baits and circle hooks don't strike into the bite. Let the bite develop. When I'm using similar tactics for bass I often just hold the rod and reel into the bite just one turn at a time.
On the penel snoods my preferace is a long shanked 4/0 on the bottom and a circle hook on the top 2 or 3/0 , every angler has their own ideas ! ?
Thanks keep doing it .
Thanks Keith, I'm really glad you enjoyed. Thanks for the tips regarding circle hooks. I think there definitely seems to be a knack to them. I will keep having a go with them though, especially on the pennel👍🎣🎣🙏
Nice one mate
Thanks buddy👍👍🎣
Take it easy Dylan bud and don't stress your self to show a fish. Fishing is about relaxing and chilling out there. Anyway well done mate 👍 beautiful bass 👌hope taste good also 😁👏💪👊🎣
Cheers buddy, yeah I do forget sometimes. It becomes more about the video than the fishing, I have to have a word with myself sometimes 👍🎣🎣
Well done, Dylan, lovely looking Bass.
Thanks Steve, yeah it was a really nice looking fish. Lovely shape to it👍👍🎣🎣
Excellent Dylan, beautiful bass and some amazing bites
Thanks Sharon, shame I couldn't turn a few more in to fish, hopefully next time👍🎣🎣🙏
Eazy dylan you ok pal, well done matey cracking bass. Shame about the first 3 banging bites. I was out yesterday morning and managed 5 big whiting and a dab on the humber. All the best dylan from GRIMSBY.
Nice mate, I'm looking forward to the whiting coming in. Be nice to get a few for fish cakes and fish fingers😂🎣🎣👍🤞
A great bass well done Dylan, 😊
Thanks Simon, your support is massively appreciated mate thank you🎣🎣👍👍
Top video as ever. Well done on the bass Dylan, some lovely bites aswell.Roll on the next one 👍🏻🎣🎣
Cheers Scott buddy. Plenty of bites that night, just happy to at least hook into one. Miss d a few though. Maybe next time👍🎣🎣
Nice video Dylan. Definitely stick with the circle hooks, don’t know how you tie yours but using a perfection loop so the hook can turn is the way to go.
Maybe try it with a dongle/hair it is a real game changer.
Also give the bites a bit more time to develop and the fish will hook itself.
When using braid and circles the general consensus is you don’t strike just reel in any slack line and just lean back into the fish.
Striking can have the effect of pulling the bait out of the fishes mouth.
It works a treat on the hounds, don’t think I had a single dropped run on them this year.
Thanks for sharing fella.
Awesome mate, some really good info there. Thank you. I've seen alot about the dongle, but I have to be honest, the circle acts like a pennel anyway, why not have the additional hook on the bottom for those more tentative bites👍🎣🎣🎣
Cracking bass. The whole session looked like quite hard work, good reward for your effort though. I think when you're having one of those days when the fishing is easy is the time to try the circle hooks. It's hard to fish without confidence so get used to their different hook-up method when you know you're in the fish. All the best, tight lines, take care. 👍
That's a really good idea buddy thank you. Probably the wrong time to have a go at a new method. To be honest, I don't even like the look of them😂😂👍🎣
Another great video, love your style and a nice bass too ! Like others I was pointing and shouting at the screen...You've got a bite !!!!
Thanks Tim, very kind of you to say. That is the only problem of filming everything, I get to see all my mistakes when I edit the video. Goes to show how many bites we miss though I guess😂🎣🎣👍👍
Just a idea if u want it..when I was going for bass and knew I was chum it it up a day or so b4 I used to get my old bait and bit and bobs that I used to keep and blend it up in a kenwood mixer with veg oil anchovie oil and different fish smelling bit and breadcrumbs until I’m able to make gooey balls size of tennis balls or smaller and pre freeze them then when going fishing I used to throw them out to defrost in the area or surf and it gives a better scent trail for them to follow and no chunks except your bait for them to fill up on makes them go on the hunt more for the source..try it used to make it as a paste aswell and mould it round the lead and used to chum the area..also good for draining in bream to go on the feed..
Thanks Phil, some good tips there mate. Trouble is, half the time I don't know where I'm going til I leave😂😂👍🎣
Well done mate bass are so quick with theres bites , i hit a nice one up haland wall again 6lb and almost lost the rod lol and Jon smashed in a cod mental . Look forward to seeing the next video , well done again hitting target 🎯 👍🏽
Thanks mate, yeah nice fish buddy, I'd have been well happy with that. I've only ever fished once over there. Daytime as well. It's a pretty busy venue isn't it? Tightlines mate👍👍🎣🎣
@@FrugalOutdoors it’s normally fairly quite but Jon posted the cod on FB group so is probably packed for a few weeks 😂
Good Morning Dylan , What a cracking video mate the first few bites you had were tremendous its just a shame you didn't land them , but that's fishing mate , you got your target fish at the end of the day & it was lovely , so take care & stay safe
Thank you Steve, always appreciate your comments mate. I'll have to get back down there before end of November. Would like a couple for the freezer👍🎣🎣
Nice one Dylan, lovely bass mate and well deserved too. Found myself shouting at the screen “ Dylan look at your rods ,look at your rods !! “ 😂😂 got one eventually tho …appreciate your efforts dude 👍🏼👍🏼
Ah mate, doing the edit is a nightmare. I look like a right plum, rod bouncing away right next to my face. Thanks mate👍👍🎣🎣
@@FrugalOutdoors mate you can only look in one direction at a time, and you still got one on camera for your people behind the lens, so it’s all cool buddy☺️👍🏼
Well what can I say. Well done yet again mate😊👍. I used to use running ledger for years when I was a kid and always caught. It’s time to use them again.
Thanks buddy, it's the way forward, super simple. Was a good fun session, if a little frustrating👍👍🎣
Nice vid and a well deserved target bass....not sure what the science bit behind it is but....circle hooks should be tied on a loop to move freely, not direct to the eye of the hook👍🏻
Thanks mate, appreciate that. Now you mentioned, I think you're right, I've been researching them a bit, some people tie a different bit as well, where the line comes out of the front of the eye, and I hen kicks the hook more upwards. I'll have a muck around with it. 👍👍🎣🎣
Well done Dylan, perseverance paid off, but agree with other comments about bait and hook size... I had one the other day over 5lb on double sandeel, size 2/0 J hook on the bottom and a 2/0 circle as the pennel and it was perfectly hooked with the circle
Thanks Steve, yeah I'm thinking of mixing it up a bit. Lots of people say big hooks, 6/0s etc, but I'm thinking a 4/0 j and a 4/0 circle, mix it up a bit, try some different combinations. Lovely fish by the way👍👍🎣🎣
Lot of squid n cuttle around at minute mate they can take ya bait n drop it usually once a bass is hooked it’s hooked.👍🏽
Yeah man, do you know what, that's not a bad shout, was some funny old bites, so could well have been👍🎣🎣
I had exactly the same in Pompey entrance last week, didn’t occur to me and fella come up said they where getting alot of squid and cuttle night before.
A lot of fish tend to do 1 when they about I think 😝👍🏽
I recon some of the bites you were getting were probably congers. But a nice bass for your reward, could be worth trying one rig with a grip weight, might improve your hook ups 🤞🐟🎣
Yeah I reckon you are probably right mate. I did switch to both on grippers in the end, maybe that's what helped finally hook one👍🎣🎣
dont be put off by circle hooks mate, they are in my opinion a good hook and i find so far they are easier to unhook a fish, although a bit overkill on the hook size.😆
Thanks mate, I will keep having a go, I'm going to put them on my pennels for a bit see how that goes👍🎣🎣
You wanna use circles with a dongle mate not good for putting bait on but very effective with the bait on a hair
Thanks buddy, yeah it seems that this is coming up quite a bit, maybe I should try one. I'm just thinking if the circle is at the top of the bait, may as well have it as a pennel hook, and have the extra hook at the bottom 👍🎣🎣
@FrugalOutdoors you can do that they work well as a pennel and 90% of the time that'll be the hook that they end up on
Could try a freshwater groundbait caterpult for your chum, just a thought
Yeah man that's not a bad idea, it doesn't really need to go far. The one I caught, was full of the chum I threw out😉👍👍🎣
I think you need to persevere with the circle hooks but you also have to feel confident with your rigs, smashing bass Dylan but the bait was nearly as big, doesn't matter you caught your target with the bait you thought was right. Take care, Norfolk Ray
Thanks Ray mate. I'll definitely keep having a go with the circles. Going to use them as a pennel to begin with and go from there. Yeah man, the mackerel I had were massive so it was just a case of, oh well chuck out the head and see what happens 😂😂😂👍🎣
Great job! Perfect size fish for the table…but I don’t want to hear any more of this crazy talk about taking a break, what the hell are we supposed to watch then??! Just kidding mate, take it easy feller & enjoy 😎👍
Cheers dude. So frustrating looking back at the video when editing, I knew I had bites etc, but then seeing the ones I didn't even notice at the time😂😂. I just felt like I had been fishing really hard this year. With the comps as well. Being in contention, I feel like I can't miss one, then everything becomes about fishing, and filming. If I haven't got an upload, I feel I've got to go out, to film. Not to fish. Which is the wrong way round. Hey ho, I'll get my head straight soon👍👍🎣🎣🙏
@@FrugalOutdoors I think you do more than your fair share mate, I am in awe as to how you manage to produce a vid every single week, I think a lot of folks could not imagine how much work that involves. But yes, it is supposed to be fun! Hope you get your mojo back mate & happy fishing 💪🏻🙂
When I saw you in the tackle shop in Freshwater last year I said to you don’t walk down to the water and keep your line tight with Bass ,Both times you walked down and both times you lost them then said I don’t know how it came off I rest my case
Hi David, yeah I remember. I haven't forgotten, it's always there, when I'm walking down, I'm very aware I need to keep tension on the rod, so I walk slowly and make sure I have a bend in my rod. The first one I could see where the fish had the bait was nowhere near the hook, and I think I fumbled it anyway using a circle hook and not really knowing what to do, second was in a snag, again my fault, I should have tried to get it away from the rocks. So if you don't walk down, obviously you have to at some point, but do you just reel in til it's on the beach👍👍🎣🎣
You could use a bait catapult to get your chum out as far as possible?
Now that's a good idea, thanks buddy👍👍🎣🎣
Hi Dylan ... With bass, pennel rigs are the way to go ... But the size of some of your baits was overkill for the usual species, 😂 ... How did that fish get that bait in its mouth🧐🐋 ... Just imagine how many more you could have caught with half the size offerings ... But as usual, well done and 'Good eating' ... John 👍🎣
Thanks John, that's my thinking too. I am going to have a go with a circle hook for the pennel, after much head scratching I fancy giving it a go. Yeah lol, monster baits, but what can I say, it paid off. They weren't all that big though😂😂. Always appreciate your support and comments John, thank you👍👍🎣🎣
Don't walk down the beach towards the fish m8 stay at the top as soon as youwalk down winding in slackens your hook hold even though you are winding hope that helps
Thanks for the tip mate. I do have a habit of doing that. It's been said before, so in the back of my mind, I'm always trying to keep tension on the rod. Do you literally bring the fish onto the beach then go down👍🎣🎣🎣
True words 👍🏼
@FrugalOutdoors in your head m8 you think I better go down to the water towards the fish but try it next time just get the fish onto dry land then go down you won't lose so many fish
Have you tried one of those bait bombs carp fishermen use?
I haven't, are they the spod ones, that's not a bad idea👍🎣🎣
@FrugalOutdoors will get you in the spot you want, but it will spread fast in a strong tide.
To make the attractor go further, you could soak a blended makeral, worm, and squitld in bread crum.
never strike a circle hook buddy you let the fish take it and slowly wind up the slack till the circle hook turns in the mouth and generally it will be in the scissors of the jaw you were missing them by not leaving the bite to develop .... never strike using circle hooks
Yeah it's been a bit of a learning curve with the circles, and I'm still trying to figure them out, I haven't been bassing yet this year, but I'll be having a slightly different approach from now on 👍🎣🎣
Dylan , I have to ask !!!! What is cod fishing like from the island ? I've never heard off cod caught from there !
Hey buddy, there are indeed cod here, a good few get had every year. A few have been caught so far this season. Last year there was quit a few had, nothing massive though. I've heard stories of some monster ones had from the shore here though👍🎣🎣
@@FrugalOutdoors that's just leaving me in suspense!! How big ?
Bloody shark baits mate miles too big cut them back for better results😊
Lol, yeah man they were big ole baits that night. They weren't all that big, only those two massive mackerel heads. But it worked😂😂👍👍
