Eric this was a thoroughly enjoyable analysis. I always find Kylie’s lyrics intelligent and insightful at times. I know she is loved and adored around the world but under appreciated for her musicality. It’s only highlighted when someone like you does an in-depth review . She wrote or co wrote every song on this album.

wow, you analyzed it perfectly, interesting because you were not there when it was originally released ;) This album is so special in her discography - so different, so experimental and dark at places. And I think it really still sounds fresh. Thanks for your great video! You are also very likeable! Would love, if you would react to some other Kylie albums like "Light Years" for example which is like the opposite to this album. Greetings from Cologne, Germany!

Oh my god!! I've never saw or read a 100% accurate review of this album, it is my favourite from her, I know she's more pop and dance music but this is definitely a piece of art, the darkness in it is everything. She dated a french photographer in the mid 90's which I think is this album inspired, he was a very underground photographer and music video maker, he worked with Bjórk, Red Hot Chilli Peppers, Garbage, among others and he took her on a road trip through the USA from California to New York right when she was writing songs for this album. All of the songs are written by her and the label she was working for gave her complete freedom to do whatever she wanted. It's such a shame she doesn't talk about it anymore she really focus on her beggings in the late 80's but she never touches her 90's era, not even on her concerts and I think the best of her and the real her was the 90's Kylie. I could talk about this for years. Amazing review and you should really do this with her 1994 self titled album Kylie Minogue 94', the vibe on that one is perfect.

I find the ease in which you latch onto the meaning behind the lyrics so impressive considering this is a first listen. You peel back the layers behind the words at a level that I would only reach in at least a handful of listens. As a huge Kylie fan, I loved how articulate and perceptive your analysis was. What you said about Say Hey, in particular, is so spot on. My one disagreement would be that my interpretation of Dreams was that it was less about someone else and more self-reflective. I think she's talking about wanting it all no matter how impossible or contradictory (just like dreams can often times be). Anyway, fantastic work!

Thank you so much! That interpretation of Dreams definitely makes sense! :)

When you were talking about “Did It Again” and about her talking about herself, you made a great observation, I would recommend you to watch the video for the song and it will make 100% more sense.

Great to hear an analysis from a casual listener and not a long time fan. This album as part of the kylie catalogue is more about her shedding her pop princess persona and the expectations put on her from living that cheesy girl-pop life. Leading up to this (and the Kylie Minogue 1994 album) she was nothing but pure pop. This album let her reveal a real personality and feeling. Definitely a fan favourite. Lyrically it may sound like her relationships with lovers, but to a fan it’s obviously about her struggles between what she wants and what the public want from her and where she fits in somewhere in the middle. Sadly, although loved by fans, the public did not enjoy the real-life non pop cheese kylie. So she has switched back to all pop. It was great recently when she released the Golden album as it we got to see the Impossible (pop) Princess in her once again.

Amazing review. The sound, lyrics, and vocals on this album make the biggest gem in kylie's career. She wrote all the songs on that album, so it would be good if you could review Golden. She wore and co-wrote all of the songs there as well, and IMO it has a bigger cinematic approach

Ahhh, Impossible Princess is my favourite Kylie album! 😍
It’s very different from any of her other music but is probably her most personal since it is the album she had the most creative control over.
But how have you only heard one Kylie song before?! 😱
Please react to some of her other albums, I’d recommend Fever next (it’s the one with Can’t Get You Out Of My Head)
