  • What do a soap bubble and a blue morpho butterfly have in common? Their wonderful vibrant colours? That's correct! Let's understand how thin film interference leads to such vibrant colours.
00 Introduction
48 Breaking down the phrase - Thin film interference
50 Zooming into the soap bubble
21 Path difference between two light waves
03 Constructive and Destructive interference
38 Varying thickness of the film changes the colours we see
00 Why is the blue morpho butterfly blue?
54 Why don't we see colours in a liquid drop or a window pane

This is amazing! I've been thrown straigt into calculating inteference in thin films without understanding what was actually going on. I never understood why there was interference because the beams don't overlap in the pictures I've found. The fact that in happens in the eye made it all click and now I feel like I have a good grasp of this model! Thanks! I wonder why this isn't something brought up in the beginning of every lecture on this because it doesn't make sense otherwise
