- Going on a tour of one of my favorite movies, “Star Trek IV: The Voyage Home”, locations all found in San Francisco.
The locations visited on this tour are:
1) The corner of Columbus, Pacific and Kearny streets. It’s the location where Kirk and the crew make their big entrance in the City by the Bay, in the famous “double-dumbass” scene.
2) The “Yellow Pages” location, at the intersection of Grant Ave and Fresno St, where McCoy, Sulu and Scotty see the advertisement for the Yellow Pages.
3) The corner of Columbus, Greenwich and Mason where Chekov and Uhura are looking for the “Nuclear Wessels”.
4) The Golden Gate Bridge, location of the famous “punk on bus” scene.
5) Marine drive, where Kirk discusses Spock’s misuse of “colorful metaphors”.

Ah, I miss this movie. One of the best Star Trek movies ever made.
I agree!
@@Protokino I have some questions for you that I will ask you only once
q1 when will the next chapter of virus be posted?
q2 when will James bond vs star wars be posted?
q3 do you have any plans for a sequel to invasion battle for earth?
@@alexkinney9641 thanks for interest. Q1: I don’t know Q2: I don’t know Q3: no plans. I’m concentrating on filming location videos right now. There are 6 more that have been shot and being edited. The “Vertigo” filming locations video is coming out tomorrow.
@@Protokino well fair enough answers
Agreed. I think this was the best… it’s my favorite… the only one I own on digital that I can go to certain scenes.
One of my favorite star trek films. I saw it on video tape, yeah, vhs. I still have this movie in my storage locker.
Having visited SF several times I really appreciate what you've done. I love the way that you've blended the shots in from the film with now, it's very effective. Well done.
Thanks a ton!
Great job making the film. One of my fav scenes is when Uhura and Chekov are asking the police officer directions, and he just stares at them without emotion. Cracks me up every time I watch that scene.
Me too! Thanks for watching!
I saw the "double-dumbass" scene being filmed!! I lived in San Francisco and was walking toward downtown on Columbus Ave. A huge crowd was gathered at that intersection (just off-camera), and suddenly the whole Star Trek cast - complete with Spock in his galactic robe - came strolling out through traffic and the taxi slammed on the brakes and I heard Kirk yell "And a double-dumbass on you." So I always love that scene in the movie - I was there!!
That’s amazing! I love that story, thanks for sharing!
Fun fact… The guy who played the park on the bus with the boombox was one of the producers of the film.
Kirk Thatcher! He worked at ILM too! He reprised his Punk role in Spider-Man: Homecoming.
He was in Picard Season 2 as the same guy on the bus lol classic
The best Star Trek movie. Certainly the most rewatchable.
My favorite Star Trek movie! I want to visit these locations so badly one day! It’s like a huge item on my bucket list! It’s so cool you got to visit all these locations! You need to make more videos about the filming locations of Star Trek! 😊🖖🏻
You should! It's so good.
Why can't you visit the filming location?
@@billbixby7877 Cuz I live in Germany. I've never been to the US, but I really want to go there. Either this or next year. I also have some friends there.
@@DerRoemer2000 Sounds great, do it!
Star trek 4
One of my favourite movies ever, so I love seeing the locations present day in this video!
Mine too!
Great location shooting, editing, and detective work! Hard to believe this movie is over 30 years old - it's become a time capsule of what SF was in the 1980s. Here's a SF tidbit: that street, Greenwich? Looks like it would be pronounced green-witch but it's actually grenn-isch (after the UK Prime Meridian town-within-London). Thanks for including your drive across the bridge! 💖
Wow, your very first location is the one I was hoping to see when I clicked on your video! Beautiful....i remember that building on the corner as having so much character. Great video....great movie 👍💯
love this film.. great location reveals.. especially the random extra info..
Glad you enjoyed it More to come!
It's amazing these people got out of the
20th century
Fun. I was living in Monterey during the filming.
that's awesome, did you see any of the filming?
@@Protokino in Monterey they had the streets barricaded two blocks away. My buddy is seen driving by the San Francisco street scene in his green AMC Hornet.
So glad I found your channel. I love Star Trek and I love your location videos. You have a new subscriber!
The Voyage Home was a welcome break from the previous two movies, and really, the best of the six done by the Original Crew! Directed by Leanord Nimoy, this film is done in true Original Series style! The best!
The gang going to the 80s LA is basically a metaphor for older generation from the 60s dealing with the craziness of 80s LA.
Thank you with the awesome work! Pick really interesting film locations - all ones I grew up with!
Thanks! Glad you enjoyed it!
Awesome investigative work. Fun! Nice job 👍🏻
Thanks again!
Leonard Nimoy has a way of being very funny without saying much, examples are Spock arguing with Kirk about Italian food and the bus scene, along with many others. 🙂
My favorite Star Trek movie. Thankyou for making this.
Of course, one of my favorite Star Trek movies too! It was so fun to be there, it was like reliving it all.
this is so good! TY just subscribed, and watching your vegas locations video next!!!
Awesome! Thank you!
@@Protokino BTW REGARDING LAS VEGAS IF YOU CAN EVER SOMEHOW LOCATE THE DENIRO SHARON STONE HOUSE FROM CASINO LET ME KNOW (I AM IN LAS VEGAS AND ALWAYS SCOUTING / HUNTING FOR LOCATIONS) - CHEERS PROTOKINO!
Nicely done after all these years...brilliant!
Thank you kindly!
Really enjoying your work, awesome movie location choice
Glad you enjoyed it!
1:18 There should be an ordinance passed that requires newspaper vending boxes never be removed from that spot and kept in operation.
That was fun. Great movie!
Great job! Thanks
That was awesome!
My favorite Star Trek film!
One of mine too!
That lady that Chekov and Uhura was asking for direction, and she said ' Alameda ' is a hottie.. I wonder if she ever pursue an acting career?..She seems natural..
Remember reading that because she actually spoke on film, she was required to sign up with the Screen Actors Guild. After paying the hefty required dues, I hope she DID attempt to make it pay for itself.
As the story goes, the lady was an actress who was not expecting any speaking parts. She drove herself to the shoot. It is my understanding that the city towed her car to prep the scene, and after hearing about her misfortune, leonard nimoy spoke up for her and got her the part. Please feel free to fact check ❤
It’s a lot more than two blocks in real life to the cable car turntable in real life.
Did you try catching the number of the Muni bus for the nuclear wessel scene? It's blurry in this video but looked like 3-something Van Ness. There was also a cable car signal that might've been a clue. Great job, it's been almost 20 years since I left my heart in San Francisco. After what SF did to it, it wasn't worth taking with me (j/k)!
No, I didn't notice the bus number. But I did see a heart looking for it's owner. :) Thanks for watching!
I live on Mason, about 3 blocks up from Nuclear Wessels. lol.
Nice!
Nicely done. Good work
Thank you! Cheers!
Best Star Trek movie ever afaic because it was like a 2 hour episode of the original series. None of the other movies ever had the original series vib.
it is a super fun movie, I love it.
You missed a spot, the scene with Chekhov & Uhura when they find the USS Enterprise ship.
Yes, that was actually filmed in San Diego at the Naval base. There were also some locations in Los Angeles!
such fun
You didn't cover the Monterey Bay Aquarium part of the film..... they called it the Cetasean Institute.... there were a number of good shots taken there.
Indeed, there are also locations in Los Angles and San Diego that were not covered in this video. Maybe a sequel is needed?
Can you show the film locations from the Orville ?
sadly one of the filming locations has been scrapped. The USS Ranger.....
:(
Thank you. My favourite scene by far is in the restaurant ‘I thought I told you never to call me’. Can you tell me where this was filmed? It’s somewhere I would love to go.
Unfortunately I couldn't find out where that was filmed, I would've loved to go there too!
PROTOKINO thanks never mind 😉
@@Protokino it was a day when star trek was real.i am not a fan of the Kelvin timeline.
Nice stuff, PROTOKINO. But I can't seem to get past how much you remind me of Jon Lovitz. Not today's Lovitz, but Lovitz during his heyday.
#truth
Yes.
Captain kirk
Has anybody ever set up a Voyage Home scavenger hunt around the Bay Area??❤
I want it!!
Jon Lovitz! :)
What about parking the bird of prey in golden gate park?
Actually "Golden Gate Park" was Will Rogers Park on Sunset Blvd in Los Angeles!
5:34 Ja ja ja ja.
Glad not to see poo everywhere
Today San Francisco is an open homeless toilet 🚻.
