    A meal after the match with your team is incredibly nostalgic. Teams do it at every away game, win or lose. So it's not really like a special treat or reward. It's more about the comfort of routine and not being alone after a tough loss or celebrating together after a big win.

    My sister got me to watch this anime, I watched the 2nd episode and I was already hooked. I binged this season in 2 days and man this defeat hit hard. I got so connected with the characters and I wanted them to win so much that I just overlooked the fact that they could very well lose, it got me teary-eyed when they did... man Haikyuu is so good

    Furudate-sensei, the author of Haikyuu, put in a lot of effort into making the volleyball look interesting on paper, constantly looking for new angles/perspectives, doing a ton of research, including some... rather long trips :"D So it's really great to hear you appreciate that, as well as Oikawa's character! He was also one of the more troublesome characters for sensei.

    From the post-game review, i feel like you would like ace of the diamond. Anyways Oikawa is fighting against the inevitable. Trying to postpone the moment Kageyama will surpass him. Anyways I would like you to think about one thing. think about the scrimmage between seijou and Karasuno. if it wasn't for Hinata messing up the first set. Karasuno would have won in 2 sets. They were better than seijou without Oikawa. Then Karasuno added Asahi and Nishinoya and still lost against them. That's what makes Oikawa a valuable player. He alone transformed a good team into a great team.

    • @TheInfernalScocerer
      @TheInfernalScocerer 2 года назад +4

      them also saying how Oikawa lost the personal battle against Kageyama due to him being a 3rd year while Kageyama is a 1st year goes to show that Oikawa is not a natural genius and emphasises just like the show how much more naturally gifted/talented Kageyama is.All this displays how hard Oikawa works on getting better at building chemistry with his team mates and improving the capability of the rest of the team as individually Oikawa is already at his peak and sadly will never reach the natural ability of Kageyama

    You are spot on about Oikawa losing the personal battle. Aoba johsai may have won but Oikawa loses to Kageyama again considering how big his dream is. Love your analysis for Haikyuu and if this was top 10 anime battles of all time for you, then your top 10 will probably be all haikyu by the series end.

    I love how Haikyuu always slowly hooks people in that by the time we get to this defeat, everyone's fully bought in, invested and crying with Karasuno, but also as fully invested in Seijo. The character writing is so good! S2 is probably my second favorite season, in terms of character progression. Looking forward to it!

    It takes lot of talent to raise the stakes of a Highschool volleyball game to a full-blown shounen battle. You love this characters and teams so much because you have seen their growth, their struggles and their dreams. Karasuno vs Seijoh is the perfect example that, with the right focus, even the most daily characters in their daily struggles can make for a compelling and heartwarming story.

    Loved your discussion so much! The passion and effort shown on BOTH sides of the court raises our level of investment sO much and is something that makes this show really special imo. No ones dying or trying to save the world, they’re just a bunch of kids playing the sport they love, and the way it has us all right there with them on the edge of our seats is insane. This match felt so grand, but it was also so grounded, and I also really appreciated your points about failure! It adds so much realism and believability. Kags is a “genius,” but he still has so much to work on. Oikawa is the pinnacle of hard work and determination, but he still messes up. Neither team is perfect, because they’re all human and flawed but trying so hard to push past their individual struggles and limitations anyway, and that’s what makes it so captivating. Haikyuu only gets better and better so I’m excited for you guys to see what’s to come!

    This position, this timing, this angle! and yet...
    A couple of technical things: it's pretty normal to go "overtime", over 25 points, when the match is balanced. It happens very often in male volleyball, because is mainly power driven, so every play could easily lead to a point in a way or another. You'll have at least one of the sets over 25, 28-29 is common, but sometimes they go over 35. Also because in the last point you either try not to mess up, or you risk everything, so anything could happen.
    Related to that, Oikawa's serve on the 25 was a risky move, but usually power hitters are allowed to go for an ace every time. Statistically speaking, you'll get an ace, a difficult receive that could lead to a weak attack of the opponents, or an error, but a winning point is worth the risk. The payoff of an ace before the match point could be huge. In the balance of points, a potential ace is worth an error, everybody in the team knows that. Maybe not on the last point... but it shows Oikawa trusted his team mates they could recover even if he fucked up.
    Oh, I don't remember if the show addressed it or just went along with it, but as a player I always found weird that the block doesn't count for the 3 touches limit. But I guess the point is to let the team organise an attack, and a block is just an obstacle, not an active play

    • @AllTheArtsy
      @AllTheArtsy 2 года назад

      In beach, the block counts as a touch, but not for indoor. Looking at it, it makes sense. For beach, there are only 2 players, so going up for a block is sort also a chance to set up the next attack. And attacks are not that power-driven in beach (except for the highest levels).
      In indoor, attacks are so powerful that to count the block as first touch limits the play too much, I think. Also, there's greater chances for illegal blocking to be called, which is an automatic point for the opponent, so it's not like it's risk-free either.
