Guys watch some DNA Tests. Many African-Americans who thought they were full African (and/or with a little bit of Native American) only got ~60% African and the rest European. Halsey's father looks very mixed with European so Halsey might not even be a 20% African. It can be both a blessing and a troublesome thing at times being bi-racial. Take it from me, I’m half white and half Mexican, and I relate completely to what J. Cole said in regards to how he relates to/feels like one of his races, but not like his other race. He states he can IDENTIFY with one race, but at the end of the day, he only feels like he belongs to one, and he has always felt this way... Sadly, I relate to this all too well; as much as I’m proud to be half Latina, I have not ever felt like I belonged to that race. I feel like just a white woman most of the time, since I look predominantly white (of course, this changes depending on my makeup, if I have a tan, etc.) Furthermore, I was not EVER treated like a Latina growing up in school by my peers since I have more European features than hispanic features, nor was my Latina side even acknowledged by a lot of people when I told them I’m mixed. It can be an upsetting experience being treated these ways due to race. But I’m glad people have evolved and seem to be more open-minded about how varied mixed people can look! Latino is not a race. Its a cultural heritage. What people from United States calls latino is mostly from mixed populations: in spanish we used to call them MESTIZo/a (Native american + white), MULATo/a ( black + white ), and ZAMBo/a (Black + Native american). A lot of mexicans are mestizos, most dominicans are mulatos and in colombia, Paraguay and Venezuela you can see zambos more easily than other countries but they are not majority. Other latin countries such as Argentina are mostly white population and others like Haiti mostly black. Who is more latino, the french dialect speaking black haitians or the white german descent spanish speaking argentinians? So talking as if latino is a race is overly simplistic non-sense.

This! One of my cousins on my paternal side of the family has a light brown complexion (we're Mexican fyi). She is married to a non-Hispanic white man and they have two kids together (11 year son and two year old daughter). They were suppose to have a third just this past January, but unfortunately she miscarried back in June. The kids look more like their father than her. You would think of them as ordinary white kids if you saw them in person and not know that their mother is Mexican with light brown skin.

Simply Classic My grandfather that is prominently Spaniard traveled there and he said he felt welcomed. He didn't speak Spanish very well until he went to Spain and it kinda of stuck to him. Puerto Rico has a very strong Canarian influence as the languages sound very similar.

Guys watch some DNA Tests. Many African-Americans who thought they were full African (and/or with a little bit of Native American) only got ~60% African and the rest European. Halsey's father looks very mixed with European so Halsey might not even be a 20% African. I think it's super annoying when people claim they are black or even full black (aka a color and strictly speaking not a race) when they clearly don't look like it. It can be both a blessing and a troublesome thing at times being bi-racial. Take it from me, I’m half white and half Mexican, and I relate completely to what J. Cole said in regards to how he relates to/feels like one of his races, but not like his other race. He states he can IDENTIFY with one race, but at the end of the day, he only feels like he belongs to one, and he has always felt this way...
Sadly, I relate to this all too well; as much as I’m proud to be half Latina, I have not ever felt like I belonged to that race. I feel like just a white woman most of the time, since I look predominantly white (of course, this changes depending on my makeup, if I have a tan, etc.)
Furthermore, I was not EVER treated like a Latina growing up in school by my peers since I have more European features than hispanic features, nor was my Latina side even acknowledged by a lot of people when I told them I’m mixed. It can be an upsetting experience being treated these ways due to race. But I’m glad people have evolved and seem to be more open-minded about how varied mixed people can look!

What people from United States calls latino is mostly from mixed populations: in spanish we used to call them MESTIZo/a (Native american + white), MULATo/a ( black + white ), and ZAMBo/a (Black + Native american). A lot of mexicans are mestizos, most dominicans are mulatos and in colombia, Paraguay and Venezuela you can see zambos more easily than other countries but they are not majority. Other latin countries such as Argentina are mostly white population and others like Haiti mostly black. Who is more latino, the french dialect speaking black haitians or the white german descent spanish speaking argentinians? So talking as if latino is a race is overly simplistic non-sense.

This! One of my cousins on my paternal side of the family has a light brown complexion (we're Mexican fyi). She is married to a non-Hispanic white man and they have two kids together (11 year son and two year old daughter). They were suppose to have a third just this past January, but unfortunately she miscarried back in June. The kids look more like their father than her. You would think of them as ordinary white kids if you saw them in person and not know that their mother is Mexican with light brown skin.
