  • Just another mother-daughter jam session! We did this video for our friends doing Live shows on FB, first for Randi Driscoll's Damn FaceBook Live show and then for Lizfest on Anita Weedmark's FB page. Thought others might enjoy it as well, so here it is! Monette teaches djembe & dunun classes online through Zoom, for more information contact Mo'Rhythm School of Percussion at info@morhythmdrumschool.org.

I have been drumming since June 3rd 1984 and I'm blown away with your powerful drumming my sista. I love this thank you Monette for helping keep the tradition of African music alive and going living through your babygirl as well. She is very talented and seeing the both of you drum like no tomorrow touches to the core of my heart spirit and soul. Bless the both of you always.

I remember seeing Monette playing next to Mamady Keita in a RUclips video from 2006, She was happy and looked a little pregnant. What a great thing to see her all these years later with their daughter.

It is amazing when I watch this video how much of Mamady Keita is in Nasira and Monette you are a breathe of fresh air Queen. Both of you are holding tradition and culture in the palm of your hands and Nasira is the next to pass the knowledge of what the late great Djembefola grandmaster has taught her. Djembefola grandmaster Mamady Keita I thank you for blessing us with your knowledge and wisdom of African drumming djembe drumming and African culture that you have left with us especially through your videos. Now in heaven looking down on all of us drummers I pray that your spirit continues to teach us and guide us through rhythm your knowledge of the djembe dunun and Africa culture. I love and miss you Grandmaster and I pray to God that you are at his right hand with Jesus and all of his holy angels in heaven smiling on his family that he left a beautiful legacy with. Nasira keep drumming babygirl. You have your father's blood running through your veins. He left you what he felt was enough of his knowledge to teach those that were not born in Mother Africa the drumming knowledge that your father left for others he has touched and inspired to continue to learn and grow as drummers. You are the air to your father's and mother's throne and yes babygirl you are royalty. A princess making her way to becoming a Queen may god continue to bless both Nasira Keita and Monette always and protect them from all negativity danger and harm. My condolences to the whole family of Mamady Keita and to Monette and Nasira for the loss of a father son nephew cousin and an important member of his village. I miss him very much and wish I could have met him in person. He had that connection with people that can never be matched. I actually cried when I found out he passed from this life. May his spirit live on through all who learned loved and was encouraged by him and that stretches around the whole world.drummers let carry on what these djembefola masters leave behind for us. We are their torches here in America and we need to teach our youth what was left and passed to us. God bless all of my fellow hand percussionists around the world
