Sega was amazing in the 90's. So many games which weren't as successful as they deserved

    • @gchijioke12
      @gchijioke12 2 года назад +38

Sega consistently came through with the heat on both the arcade and console sides of things. They really had the 90s vg industry on lock and it isn’t debatable imo. Only Capcom, Konami, Namco, and Nintendo really came close. Sonic, Streets of Rage, NiGHTS, etc they pushed the envelope every which way. They were just terrible at business and it is something that plagues them to this day.

Sony ruined gaming by routing mainstreamers into it and stuff like this was pushed away in favor of games where hooked were shot and raped in the backs of stolen cars (Grand Theft Auto).

@@gchijioke12 Like don't get me wrong, there is a lot to love about Sega in the 90s and they did some great stuff, but everything they did in the second half of the decade failed commercially on the global scale. It sucks too, because I love the Dreamcast so much I named my dog after it.

In my opinion, this game is an absolute masterpiece... the controls take
some getting used to, but once you master them, its so fluid. Sega
actually developed a game-specific controller (the Saturn 3D controller)
for Nights which helped tremendously. And yes, once you play through
each stage a few times and learn it, you become better at stringing
together loops and orbs. You'll wish Nights was even faster... at least I
did, lol. On my best run, I got 138 link in the Soft Museum level.
Don't even get me started on the soundtrack. Brilliant!

I would like to see someone do a video of them exploring the terrain. I always thought that was much more mind blowing, which was just the 3d detail in itself and how the water splashes when you step into shallow puddles and the detail in the lumps and bumps of the terrain. I like that SEGA really went in with the details that didn't really relate to the objective of the game. I guess I'm one of those people who can be fascinated by the most simplist of things.

I would stay as Elliot or Claris in the levels and run around on the bottom exploring and seeing how long I could survive before the alarm clock got me. Man that clock gains so much speed the longer you explore. It got so fast trying to get me that it rivaled Sonic, haha.

Looks like a great game. I’ve never had a sega Saturn before nor have I ever played this game before. The nights spinball in casinopolis from sonic adventure brought me here. I would always see the main purple character playing that part in Sonic Adventure on the sega Dreamcast as a kid and always wondered what the game of came from was like. If or whenever I get a sega Saturn, I’ll definitely get this game alongside sonic R, sonic 3D blast and sonic jam

@Kevin Dooly I remember walking into Toys R Us like a boss and writing that check for 580$ (System, two games, extra controller, taxes). The dude at the game counter looked at me like I was stark raving nuts. I was day one when they surprise launched it during E3 in 95. That was like 3 weeks pay for my highschool ass working 30 hours a week.

Some people have been questioning the Pia/level music. Ignoring the fact it's being played too quickly in this video, NiGHTS has music tied to the mood of its inhabitants, a.k.a. A-Life. Each theme (aside of Twin Seeds, because there is no A-Life to speak of) comprises of between five and seven sections, and for each, there are four moods - 0 (default happy), 1 (ecstatic), 2 (indifferent) and 3 (annoyed). Defeating Nightmaren, hatching eggs in front of Nightopians etc. raises the mood, dashing at or killing Nightopians etc. lowers it.
There are two ways you can check this:
    1) Pause, then press L+R+Y at the same time to view the "DSS Info" (a string of numbers, default zeroes, 0000000 for Spring Valley), or
    2) the Melody Box in Christmas NiGHTS, by selecting that particular level, albeit ordered 1-0-2-3
The reason for Spring Valley's music not being default (i.e. 0000000) in this video is because of a pre-existing A-Life file from a previous game - it's actually 0303000, not surprising given the number killed in front of our eyes in just that one level. :) Improving mood can be frustrating, however, as the happier the Nightopians get, the more likely they can be in the way of your paraloops, so you must either abort such loops and in turn ruin your score, or risk killing one or two.

Back in the day,the Sega Saturn was considered the definitive 32-bits console. There were many great games, like Virtua Cop,A lot of remade Sega Genesis and Mega Drive games, not to mention exclusive games like this one and Virtua Fighter 2.Did you know...the Sega Saturn is more powerful than the PS1?But this was exactly the reason why it failed, because it was incredibly hard to produce games for it.I guess Sony won fair and square...Final Fantasy VII,MGS,Medal of Honor, they're all great.
