  • Yes - I quit my salary job to work for myself as a bookkeeper. It was one of the biggest decisions I’ve ever made, but quite frankly was also the easiest. I was so sure of my ability to be successful as a bookkeeper, and I dive into why I felt that why and how you can ask yourself the same questions to decide if this could be right for you!

    We are just about in the same boat, lady! I am currently a high school teacher and am about to go on my 4th maternity leave - I can't do it anymore! Last Oct I decided that by Jan. 31 I would have my own bookkeeping business, and I do! Once my maternity leave ends, I'll be quitting my teaching job and pursuing my bookkeeping full time.
    Congratulations to you. You definitely have inspired and helped me along my journey!

      Congratulations starting a bookkeeping business but don't leave your teacher job until you can meet your total teacher salary & benefits, that's a lot and you don't want to quit and not have the number of clients needed to support your current lifestyle and 4 kids. Just an opinion.

    After 27 years as a high school English teacher, I am looking forward to learning bookkeeping as I head into retirement! There are a lot of young entrepreneurs in my community that need my services. I love learning from you. You are a great teacher, no matter the content!

    You and I are soooo similar! I am currently a middle school math teacher and mother of 3. I am seriously thinking about bookkeeping to be able to be more family oriented. Thanks for the realistic view of the challenges and joys of starting a bookkeeping business.

    Congratulations - that is a huge accomplishment! You are absolutely right that you must take it seriously because business owners are trusting you with sensitive information. How did you learn bookkeeping? Sometimes I feel inadequate in my abilities since I haven’t taken a specific course for bookkeeping either.

    So at 54 and having had a 30 yr career in nursing… I’m kinda done and burned out. My hubby and I never had children so I have been full time for 30 years. I have an opportunity to retire coming up. I have set up a small LLC company and am in a different season of life. I need to move forward just along a different path. I can always return to nursing if it doesn’t work out…. But I am going to do my best. It is scary but I need a change. I found this video because I was looking for tips on bookkeeping which I have never really had to worry about. I just really liked this video and it resonated. I am subbing!

Are you still producing videos?

    How did you get clients? I'm planning on doing the same and start my Bookkeeping Business next month. Since I'm accounting working as a senior consultant I want to transition instead of quitting my job right away!

      I totally think starting off part time and growing your business before you make the transition is the best way to go. I have a video on the "hustle" of getting clients - ruclips.net/video/Y3-iMjUPGMk/видео.html Hope that's helpful!

    You are amazing!!! Congratulations on your progress 🥳🥳🥳 how do I help my husband in doing his books when he has a mess in it and for years he neglected it. I work from home as a photographer and retoucher and we both feel that I have enough of free time in my day to help him out. I don’t have an experience in bookkeeping but I am willing to learn. How did you communicate with your husband about day to day operations and transaction in his business?

      I love your question! See if this video helps you in your specific situation - ruclips.net/video/UgMB5ReZxhk/видео.html. The back work will definitely take some time to get through, but just try to do a little at a time and make progress!

    Congratulations. Happy to hear that.😊 I have a question . I am not a outgoing personality but I am very good in math and good learner . This is kind of work I always want to do. But I want to do remotely. How can I learn that? Where did u learn all that stuff?

    • @RealisticBookkeeping
      @RealisticBookkeeping  2 года назад

      Bookkeeping is definitely a job you can do virtually. I don't have a lot of remote/virtual work so I don't have a ton of pointers on where to start specifically on that front. I've learned most of my bookkeeping literally on the job, but there are lots of ideas on how you can get experience - you could offer to bookkeep for a small business for free for a period of time, or you could try to shadow a bookkeeper, you could try to work under a CPA, or some courses advertise that they will show you the "ropes". I hope you find the right path for you!
