When you see the artists in the charts at this time - Shirley Bassey, Val Doonican, Tom Jones, Neil Reid, Benny Hill etc you realise why T.REX were such a phenomenon in the UK. Marc Bolan opened the doors for such great chart acts as David Bowie, Slade, Sweet and a shed load of others that turned TOTP into pure entertainment.
There`s some real MOR stodge in this chart, but the one thing that stands out is the audience are really getting into it, dancing and enjoying themselves. Contrast with the German equivalent, Musicladen where they`re all sitting like it`s a school assembly.
Did you know that some of the performances have been muted (some of them) including Pan's People dancing to Barbara Sterisand's Stoney End after i watched it and also the links are muted out except Neil Reid's Son of Mine !! Perhaps the Pan's People performance of T Rex was the only performance shown on TOTP2 a few years back !!
Thursday night was a real strategic punch going through til death do us part, curry and chips and mother makes three. real hard to choose those wonderful shows butI want to see my girls pans people dance. I imitate thier straight out kick and thier bumps and thier grinds. that when I want my.nie e how to kick and shake. I was great for it,bur until I went through with my family and stY here just to fully flexible I can't make any Dan e asucj I can.
I think it's because of the way the BBC recorded it in the first place? The idea was to preserve the musical sections without any speech so they could be used in the show another week?
And my father helped the sales figures - he bought it for me!😅 It actually stayed at No1 at four weeks and was in the top 40 for 15. Believe it or not Hill received an Ivor Novello award for the song!
