So That's why that scene hits me so hard. You can see he got lost in his character, and for a moment he WAS Alonzo. It's in his eyes. POWERFUL scene! AMAZING movie. LEGENDARY leading man. EXCELLENT director!
He had me believing everything, including at the end when Alonzo told the rookie he would be okay, even as he had already set him up to get killed by the Mexican gangs
Training Day was magnificent. My favorite part is when Denzel gets Ethan to smoke that pipe. Then after a couple minutes he let's him know that it wasn't just weed he smoked. Denzel, in the most sinister tone, says "But I didn't know that you like to get wet" Ethan says "what's wet"? Then Denzel starts naming all of the nicknames for PCP " Butt-naked. Ill. Sherm. Dust."Thats acting at it's finest. Denzel was 50 when he made "Training Day" didn't look much older than 35. The GOAT.
Washington was born in the last week of 1954. I think Fuqua is mistaken when he says he was 32 during filming as this would make the filming year 1998, he was born in January 66, and would make Washington 43. The film was released in 01 so more than likely was filmed in 2000 spilling into 01 maybe unless they had a really quick editing process etc.
One of the BEST movie's I've ever seen! Wow. The scene where the gun was placed by Alonzo's foot by the cigarette packet, and he chose the cigarettes over the gun!? That part alone took me. A perfect scene to wrap up what it was all about. The fine line between justice, morals and injustice. Absolute perfection I am so glad I was able to see this masterpiece. Denzel ate this up too 👏
Bro I'm 32 I can't imagine working with A list Actors such as Denzel and Ethan Hawke and creating an all time classic movie 😮 that's wild! Antoine Fuqua is a certified Legend and National Treasure.
Hes right about the buzz whatever a buzz is....that scene was off the scale. Just shows the natural talent too that DW ad libbed a bit of the dialogue.....who would have thought tje king kong line was not off the page! Amazing to hear the behind the scenes stories to this movie.
Scorsese has said something very similar: It's not about the shot. It's about the performance. Says a lot about both men. That their more interested in delivering stories that move people, rather than simply just collecting accolades.
@@Carlosrastar123 He's an excellent writer director who never made a film that was bad or boring to watch. I even enjoyed his more recent Netflix productions Sabotage, End Of Watch and Bright a lot. I actually believe that he could teach the pinnacle of his storytelling by doing miniseries because the characters and universes he creates are worth exploring deeply.
Denzel was possessed as his character demanded. The whole staff team resonated, even the extras were done right. Great direction, should totally try something in that vibe again soon.
Antoine you got it right and it should have gotten you an oscar for directing let alone best picture it is one of the greatest films ever made and no not a single soul noticed that buzz in the scene!!!
One of the best movies of all time and to see directors explain the process and how everything works damn ppl have incredible minds idk if I could ever even try or do what a lot of these people do
i just pulled up that scene for the buzz but didn't see anything wrong..wise choice not to yet it out because 20 years later people still say that line
Training day was unbelievable, true classic.
It's incredible that he made this masterpiece at 32...respeckt!
It shows his birthday as January 1966, and Training day came out in late 2001. That must mean he was at least 34-35??
@@costco_pizza Good catch, so either the info available is incorrect or this man is misremembering or lying.
@@IgnorancEnArrogance so in this video he is 54-55??? That's kinda crazy
and denzel was almost 50 bro looked like 30
Hmm, seems to me that he was 47 years old at that time.
He's a prodigy. If you look at people today, they don't even have it together. And Antoine created a timeless masterpiece at 30.
Ryan Coogler
@@WJstudios04 Was about to say.
PTA made Boogie Nights when he was 25.
John Singleton released BOYZ N tha Hood at 24, just wanted to point that out too, West Coast location directors are legit! ✊🏾
@@WJstudios04- Ryan coogler is incomparable to Antoine Fuqua
So literally the 3 most memorable, always repeated lines of the film Denzel improvised. Amazing
Even more impressive when I realized Denzel never plays anti heroes, villains. This was a departure. One of a kind, remarkable actor.
@@Larez121 great point
@@Larez121 It was a departure for sure. I think i recall Denzel saying that his son talked him into taking the role.
I really think Training Day is a true American Classic. In years to come this movie will get its due.
Anthony Webster Did win an Oscar for best actor.......
It won an Oscar, guy...
How much more "due" do you need?
It has!

They don’t make thrillers like Training Day anymore.
Denzel is an amazing actor.. just AMAZING
He had me believing everything, including at the end when Alonzo told the rookie he would be okay, even as he had already set him up to get killed by the Mexican gangs
I honestly wish the movie was longer.
Thank goodness that editor talked some sense into him about the buzz. Till this day, I never noticed the buzz or it being slightly out of focus.
I’d watch anything directed by this man and starring Denzel Washington. I don’t care if it’s a guy drinking coffee...
Dynamic duo!
Hell yeah I want more!

Tears of the Sun another underrated movie.
Blow is awesome too
Very underrated indeed
WOWWWW, that's amazing how Denzel has MASTERED his craft. To me the greatest actor of all time, THE 🐐!

Antoine just described the difference between a good actor and a amazing actor right there .... Improv can make a scene priceless.
Denzel is the greatest improvisational actor of all time hands down
Robin Williams, but Denzel is good too

... Agree with you both - Denzel iz the G.O.A.T.
Always noticed that buzz. It intensifies the acting and lines!!!
Amazing!!
I still don't think Alonzo was a bad guy; that's how mystic the performance was.I just feel like he's a good cop that got caught in bad streets.
Anamorphic refers to screen resolution or aspect ratio of the shot in this case 16:9 anamorphic. Buzz is interference in the video signal
Legends! Denzel is fabulous.
Fuqua is a beast
Training Day one of the most important films of our time.
training day is a great film....this guy is an underrated director..
Brilliant movie!!! Everyone did a beautiful job...My 1&only FAVORITE actor...🏆🥇 Denzel Hayes Washington Jr. 💝💖❤
Denzel was chilling in this.
I think the camera buzz adds to the scene.. its like the first time alonzo is defeated. Idk..
Washington was GREAT as Malcolm X
I've seen Training Day many times and have never notice the buzz. I went back and watched the scene just now and still can't find it.
It just means that the shot is slightly out of focus
What a great interview segment!

Incredible work. When talent and preparation meets opportunity 🌠
Great great great director
To this day Training Day is the only movie that just strait up fooled me. I thought Denzel was a good cop and was I wrong.
Watch Fight Club
Lmao you thought he was a good cop? Hahaha bro it's not like it was some twist you didn't see coming. He was a bad mf'er from the jump.

We need a prequel, we need to know what happened in the casino with the Russians.
thank god he kept the king kong part in respect other directors would of cut that out for sure
Wow, incredible
Wow very interesting. Next time I watch it ima see if I can notice the buzzing.

I have the DVD of Training Day... what buzzing are they talking about lol
It just means that the shot is slightly out of focus
Denzel is the GOAT

now im gonna hear that buzz noise lol
In this case, buzz doesn't refer to audio. There's nothing wrong with the audio. It means that the shot is slightly out of focus

Anyone have any idea what he’s talking about with the King Kong shot being “buzzed”?? Don’t know what he means by that

Denzel is so cool and grounded. A true Capricorn

I watched that movie almost everyday that summer. What a classic. To hear him say he screwed up the shot of the scene that won Denzel The Oscar. Wow
You don’t know that was the scene that won Denzel that Oscar
@TheLuscious Yes I do big mouth. Mind your business.
It was actually a training day for Antoine himself,Denzel improvised most of his lines ,so basically he acted and directed the movie.
Improvised some lines, (albeit iconic lines) but no he didn't pretty much act AND direct it himself lmao he was the best part of the movie though.
Latinos scène with Ethan Hawke🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏👏👏👏💯💯💯
