Very underrated band. "The World I Know" is an AMAZING song by Collective Soul as well and a great music video.
LOVE that song. Great suggestion.
My favorite!
Th vid for that always makes me tear-up
Yes!
I might be mistaken but I think their very first Collective Soul reaction was The World I Know. Like a year ago.
How many votes for "The World I Know" or "Run" - my two favorite Collective Soul songs
Yes please! 😄🤟💕
Both!! I have all their CDs!! Great band and underrated!!
The world I know!!!
Run is a cool track!
has nobody heard their hit Why Part 2?
That whole album is great. You need to check out "Gel", "Smashing Young Man", "The World I Know", "Where the River Flows" and "She Gathers Rain".
Agreed.
She Said
Talk about a riff. Where The River Flows is a banger.
One of the very few albums that I've listened to in my life that I love each and every track there are just three or four other albums but the second Collective Soul their eponymous album is my favorite album of all time along with Eric Clapton Unplugged 10,000 Maniacs unplugged and maybe one or two other
And Homecoming..great song
As soon as the song starts I’m immediately taken back to the 90s. One of the best bands from the 90s. Try ‘The World I Know,’ ‘Wasting Time,’ ‘Gel’ or ‘Heavy’ next. Another 90s band you should check out is Gin Blossoms. Try ‘Hey Jealousy,’ ‘Found Out About You,’ ‘Til I Hear It From You’ or ‘Follow You Down.’
Yes! Gin Blossoms were so great.
'Alison Road' is another great song by the Gin Blossoms. Takes me back
Ha, I just said the same thing! Gin Blossoms next!
This era in music was amazing. I was in high school when bands like Collective Soul and Gin Blossoms were popular. But it's just now almost 30 years later that I'm able to appreciate it.
Yes, the Gin Blossoms are great too.
This is straight from the band - "We were going through a tough time with our first manager, and I just felt like at the time, a lot of stuff happened really quickly. You've got to remember, we had a hit song before we had a label or even a true band. So, that relationship started to deteriorate. And while we were in the studio, it came pretty natural. I just wanted to talk about how I felt I was being used and whatever I did was not good enough ever." The song is called "December" because that's the last month of the year. Ed Roland wanted to signify an ending, but wanted something more poetic and abstract than "The End" or "Finale."
Like the sound…..keeps me rocking …pretty nice song!
Exactly right - song written about the studio system amd related managers which was still in place at the time, that just suck artists dry and then discard them as soon as they think they can't squeeze any more money from them.
has nobody heard their hit Why Part 2?
Haven’t found a Collective Soul tune I don’t love. Such a unique sound.♥️
Please react to Badfinger playing “Baby Blue”. Live at the Ron 1972 introduced by a young Kenny Rogers when he was a rocker with New Edition.
GREAT ROCK BAND, that was highly underrated, under appreceiated......
And still Rocks my ear holes, and brain, right now!!
Ed Roland's song writing was incredible. So touching
Great band and song!! Would love to hear "She Said" and "Heavy" something for both of you!! They are a great band!!!! Thank you would like more please!!
Heavy PLEASE!!
"The world i know" is SUCH a touching song...
The World I know is Collective Soul's "Power Ballad".
Its a beautiful song with truth and depth. And a great sound!
Great band.... Tons of great tunes.
Love the line: "Don't throw away your basic needs, ambiance and vanity."
Collective Soul are the GOATS
I've known Ed since high school. He used to live next door to my old girlfriend back then. We used to sit on her porch and listen to them practice in their garage
Awesome!
Collective Soul is out of Atlanta, GA. Home grown boys and incredible music.
Ok guys one word when it comes to this band GEL!! Awesome BANGER!!
Their Blue album is one of their finest album in their amazing discography.
I'm 64 , this song is fantastic but try the world I know , even better . Keep on Rockin
Time for more Collective Soul! Their song "Run". So good!
Every time I hear this song, I just thing “dang…someone’s mad”.
Great “angry” song
Props to the recordists and mixers. Such clean sounds.
Their stuff is so interesting. Melodic, heavy beat, haunting, little of everything, and they don't have a bad song. Throw a dart.
His voice was just made for singing buttery smooth rock/soul/blues sound.
Great band with an array of hits, never got the props they deserved.
December (the month) is often used in lyrics as a metaphor for gloom, darkness and depression.
Also used this way in A Long December by Counting Crows.
Past few years around New Years I've been reminded of that. Maybe this year will be better than the last
@@SuprousOxide I hope it is better for you this year. I don’t like New Year’s at all. I go to bed early.🤷♂️
@@petercourtien4581 My New Years resolution is to reset and not get emotionally involved. Don't take stuff home with me, it doesn't deserve my emotions like that. Stress is so bad for people and we let ourselves get involved. Every year (every day if i remember) I tell myself, "stop that".
His voice is right! The way he's able to sound like two completely different singers from "Don't dream about, don't think about." and "Turn your head, now Baby, and just spit me out!" is beyond erie...😏
Highly recommend watching more Collective Soul songs. Their first 6 albums rocked! I saw them in concert several times! They don't disappoint.
Another amazing band from the 90's!
A band from the southeast with a worldwide appeal. They started playing in their parents basement, it took a lot of convincing to keep it going. Of course their parents ended up happy they let it continue.
Tonic - “If You Could Only See”
Natalie Merchant - “Carnival”
Edwin McCain - “I’ll Be”
Blue October - “Hate Me”
Sister Hazel - “Your Winter”
Fuel - “Hemorrhage (In My Hands)”
Dashboard Confessionals - “Vindicated”
Hoobastank - “The Reason”
Lit - “Miserable”
10 Years - “Wasteland”
🛎 90’s and 2000’s
Yessssss Tonic!
All great songs! Especially Tonic and Hoobastank! 💕
Great Playlist!
YES to all!!! 👍😃❣️😃👍
Great band and song selection! Hoobastank, Blue October, Tonic, Dashboard Confessionals, Fuel, Edwin McCain. I’m on board for all of those!
This is a great song. Precious Declaration. Oh hell. Lots of great songs. They were a special group.
They still are!
Precious Declaration is my favorite tune from Collective Soul. Such a great band
Brilliant group
Love that wall .... So many legends. He sang the hoarse parts through a cardboard toilet paper roll. He did the entire song himself and then hired musicians to perform with.
That was the first album, and why Ed considers the second one their true debut album.
Collective Soul have a boatload of great hits from heavy rock to soft ballads
You guys need to react to collective soul’s song “ Heavy “.
It’s a great song, you would probably like it.
It’s one of my favorite’s by them among others but Heavy has a special place in my heart. I LOVE IT. IT ROCKS!!
🤟😎🎸🤟😎🎸
I am 60, and I quit listening to anything but the oldies channel sometime in the ‘90’s, but I love this song.
My favorite Collective Soul song!
Frankly I'm more than surprised that 'The World I Know' isn't the song of theirs most requested.
"Needs" is a beautiful song by them and "Run". You will love them.
Absolute Favorite Band!!! Seem them many times!! Always Amazing…..Do “Heavy”…. Gonna blow you away!
One of my favorite bands of all time! Talented musicians and down to earth people. Check out "The World I Know", "Heavy", "Blame", and "Precious Declaration".
You two were in such a nice trance you were swaying together.
GEL. You will love it Collective Soul has so many great songs.
Lead singer of the band and the songwriter , Ed Roland explained the meaning of this song ,"We were going through a tough time with our first manager, and I just felt like at the time, a lot of stuff happened really quickly. You've got to remember, we had a hit song before we had a label or even a true band. So, that relationship started to deteriorate. And while we were in the studio, it came pretty natural. I just wanted to talk about how I felt I was being used and whatever I did was not good enough ever." The song was recorded in December.
At some point he also said it was about a couple that was no longer in love, but were too afraid to leave one another because they feared being alone would be worse than their relationship.
The World I Know from them is one of my all time favorites! ❤💙💚
When you reacted to "Shine", I had mentioned that my husband and I were getting ready to go to the ZZ Top concert, and to our pleasant surprise Collective Soul was playing with them. We saw the concert, and it was awesome! Collective Soul was absolutely amazing. They played all their great hits, including "Shine" and "December". Their sound quality and performance were top tier, and at 65 and 67, we felt like teenagers again! Thank you for reacting to CS again! I absolutely love them! 💙✌
OKC show? I was there on the 2nd row!
@@servandomorales8765 Yes! We were on the 1st row in the second section up from you! Small world! Wasn't it amazing? 💙✌
@@faithnyou1732 great show! My first ZZ Top show but my 46th Collective Soul concert.
@@servandomorales8765 WOW! Well, if I live long enough, I will definitely see Collective Soul again, and as many times as possible! I was also pleasantly surprised that Shaman's Harvest was really great too! I had never heard of them! 💙✌
@@servandomorales8765 you've seen CS live 46 times? That's incredible. I think Why Part 2 is about their best song, I like it way more than Shine. Where would you rank it? Heavy and Gel are also awesome.
90s music is the best music
I love this song and the lead singer is AMAZING!!!!!
"Run" "The World i Know". Live with orchestra my favs
Just saw them live in Cleveland, they sound amazing. Collective Soul belongs in the R&R HoF!
Great concert band.. very tight . Clever songs and well produced.
Heavy, Where the River Flows, Observation of Thoughts, Over Me, Counting the Days, Shine, Bleed, there’s so many great CS songs !!
I think these guys would have been huge if they would have come on the scene even just 5 years earlier. They got swept up in the grunge chaos. And they are still criminally underappreciated today.
This band is cool and underrated of course.
Eight #1 hits, almost 10 million in album sales and 76 weeks on the Billboard Charts. Nope, the opposite of underrated.
@@commentatron ....you often get commenters like @Dion Share that are too stupid to know what "underrated" means.
They are just so anxious to post their drivel that they resort to saying something is underrated - when it's not.
@@urbanurchin5930
Reaction channel- here's a group ..ie 1st time, not done in a awhile etc.....we're listening to today.
Highly knowledgeable commenters -
These guy are great,* highly, criminally, etc 'underrated ' proceeds to get excessive likes 🤢🤮
And I thought it might have just been me.
Collective Soul - The World I Know is another great song!
This song was the most played song in the world in 1995 and 1996.
How have you not reacted to collective soul with Gel ??
In my opinion “The world I know” is probably their best song. Atleast for me it brings me such great memories of some of the best parts of my life. I think you guys would appreciate everything about that song including the instrumentation.
I love these boys from Stockbridge, GA. The guitars are always so compelling. They write great hooks and riffs.
"The World I Know" is a must !
Two more suggestions for Collective Soul reactions... 'Gel' and my personal favorite 'How Do You Love'
Who will wear my crown is so beautiful
one of my favorites as a child. Probably the 1st cd I listened to start to finish.
You will love their song, The World I Know.
I've seen these guys twice in concert! Awesome show!!!
Absolutely love this band - the first concert I ever took my wife to. The entire album "Dosage" is one of my favorites, not a bat song on it. For your next CS song, I would recommend "Heavy" (the guitar riff is as heavy as the song implies), "Where the River Flows", or, if you want to see their softer side, "Run". Ed Roland's voice is one of the best of the 90s. Finally I will ask again that you give a listen to the band "Live", and their tremendous frontman, Ed Kowalczyk. "Lightning Crashes" would be a great introduction, as would "Lakini's Juice".
Patrick - you and I love the same music. Live's 'Lightning Crashes' would be a great one for a reaction by Jay & Amber!
According to Wiki, Ed Roland gave an interview in 2017, and this is what he said about the inspiration for the song - "We were going through a tough time with our first manager, and I just felt like at the time, a lot of stuff happened really quickly. You've got to remember, we had a hit song before we had a label or even a true band. So, that relationship started to deteriorate. And while we were in the studio, it came pretty natural. I just wanted to talk about how I felt I was being used and whatever I did was not good enough ever."
@@rossmacintosh5652 I honestly think Live are the best 90s band they have yet to touch on. Though if they ever react to "Possum Kingdom" by Toadies, I may just die of happiness.
No bats whatsoever 😉
I love Live, but I would recommend I Alone or Iris first.
Precious declaration, why part 2, under heavens skies are great collective soul songs
The vocals in the back that Amber mentioned is actually the same guy (lead singer) and is dubbed over the chorus for that awesome effect. However, there are splashes of other band member(s) vocals mixed in there as well for added texture/layering. 😊
The self-titled Collective Soul album from 1995 which includes December is full of great songs. I think the song December’s lyrics refers to lead singer Ed Roland feeling used by their manager and that nothing he did was ever good enough. This is a band that had a hit record before they had a label. Other songs from that album to listen to: Simple, Untitled, The World I Know, Gel and She Gathers Rain. ALL OF THEM ARE AWESOME.
You are so spot on about the lyrics.
Another underrated 90s band I think you'll love- Toad the Wet Sprocket 💙 "Something's Always Wrong," "Walk on the Ocean," "All I Want"- lots of good songs to choose from.
Been asking them to listen to toad for far too long. The band is amazing. Hits on every album. It's all good, but those 3 and a few more stand out from the crowd.
Most underrated 90s band. My favorite song is Fall Down
My favorite band too. I've asked to them for Toad, waiting for the reaction.
I am obsessed with Toad!
Don't know much about Collective Soul but i recognise this song so it must have been a hit in its day.
Youth is another good album of Collective Soul !
The original name of this song was going to be "The End." And it was written because they were nearing the end of their working relationship with their current manager but they did not want that to come out in the song so they called it December as in the end of the year. Also originally the part at the end where he sings December wasn't there but the band didn't like having a song in which the title wasn't part of the song so he added the December part to the end.
They are still great in concert 🤩
I had such love for Collective Soul. Such great and catchy tunes.
Especially this one.
Just FYI collective soul loves Oklahoma they were in Tulsa and OKC earlier this summer. 😁😁😁❤️
Great band. "Run" is my absolute favourite song by them.
These guys are right up there with all the other big acts to come out of the 90s, Stone Temple Pilots, Pearl Jam, Sound Garden, Foo Fighters, and they wrote some of the best songs of the decade, Heavy, Shine, Gel, Precious Declaration, The World I Know and this one of course.
More Collective Soul!!! Don't neglect their newer stuff. Anything off of "Blender" or "Dosage" will blow your mind.
😂You know you’ve been around when you refer to 20 plus year old albums as newer stuff!! I’m right there with you! But you’re right, all their stuff is great because they know the fan base. Even the newest album Blood is a fun listen.
@@bsilvers1037 Yeah, thought about that when I said it. But all anyone plays is their really old stuff. Kind of like "Live".
Yeah but don’t sleep on “This” from 2015. It’s the perfect Collective Soul song-not necessarily the best, but perfect. It has all the signature sounds in one track.
I hate that they just released their 11th studio album, Vibrating, today and I haven't seen any reactions for it! "Cut The Cord" and "All Our Pieces" are FUCKING AMAZING! This comes from a 23 year old girl. I have seen them live 10 times and I met the whole band a million more times! They are my favorite band and their current stuff is just as incredible as the old! Blender is my favorite album though :)
This band is still together and touring with a new album coming out in August 2022.
Collective Soul - Where the River Flows!
Ed Roland has a great voice and it sets him apart from other bands of the era who kinda all sound the same. Great bunch of guys too! If you have the chance to see them live, go. You will not be disappointed.
“The World I Know”. For sure.
I agree, with the person who commented, that Y ALL check out the band LIVE! I believe you will enjoy them very much🍀👍
56 years old saw them 95 in Denver.
I am from Stockbridge, the same as Collective Soul. I went to school with about half of the original members, replacement members, and current members. They are really down to earth people. I think underrated but they were inducted into the Georgia Music Hall of Fame in 2009.
Please start doing reactions on the COUNTRY BAND "ALABAMA". They started out with 21 straight number one hits. Google search will really blow you away and I think your followers (FAMILY) would greatly appreciate you doing them. Thanks.
ALABAMA is more than worthy of being on your wall behind you. They are the Beatles, Bee Gees, Rolling Stones, Bon Jovi of the country genre. Lol.
Good art isn't blatant.
And to explain it is like explaining a joke.
It's a feeling. It's an impression.
Precious Declaration and Feeling Better Now are also great Collective Soul song!
The band Tonic "If You Could Only See" from the mid 90's is a banger !
RSR, if you happen to read this, the bass player is the only one that sings backup vocals. That's if a comment didn't mention it in the past year.
One of my favorite bands. This is a killer song.
Jay & Amber, Its time for Carole King on Female Friday. Great singer/songwriter/piano player.
Recommend “I Feel The Earth Move”, “So Far Away”, “Sweet Season”, “Jazzman” or “Its Too Late”!!
There’s a Broadway musical about her early life/career, using hit music she wrote with her husband and others.
Its called ‘Beautiful’.
Tapestry album stands to this day
Or just play all of "Tapestry" 👍✌️🇨🇦
Agree!
@@marybaillie8907 Exactly! How many debut albums could be a greatest hits album?!
She is extraordinary. So talented.👍✌️🇨🇦
They just Rocked ALPINE VALLEY music theatre, in SE WI, last Saturday! If you get the chance to see them live do not miss it!
The vocals in the end present a sort of Canon. I love it.
Collective Soul is still around and making music, releasing an album just last year.
Yes yes yes love this band ,this song, this band this genre Alternative Rock! I also love they're whole first album.Saw this band at all day concert 97 Rockfest .500 k people showed up crazy But saw Counting Crows,Paul's Cole, Meredith Brooks,No Doubt,Bush,The Wallflowers.Yes Gin Blossoms is definitely a band you would love if you like this band At the time they were my favorite of the genre Thank you for doing this reaction! Excellent! Great to see you guys like this!!!!
This is my favorite song by them. It just hits deep.
Isn’t this a great song! So many memories!
I love Collective Soul. Had a front row seat in October 2019 at Parx Casino in Bensalem PA. So awesome and they are still making great music. Blood is a great album made in 2019!
"She Said" has great instruments in it.
