    Poaching, near death experiences, and more. Christian Babcock interviews the United States most infamous poacher, Charles Beaty. He killed 116 deer over a 20+ year span off of the King and Kenedy ranches in South Texas. We are not advocates of poaching, but the stories are nothing short of incredible.

Shouldnt be allowed to make money off of stories about it. Should be in jail. Truth of it all is you hunt what land you can LEAGALY if you work hard and kill a good deer off that property wehther its public or private than you have done something. Not this guy he is a low life. Just my opinion.

      You're entitled to your opinion, of course. The fact that he was on land that he didn't have permission to be on doesn't change the fact that he still had to HUNT the deer. He still had to put in the effort.

    • @countrystrongoutdoors3603
      @countrystrongoutdoors3603 4 года назад +2

      There is although a difference in hunting deer in an area where hunting is not allowed and the deer are not pressured. I agree that beyond doubt the guy understands what it takes to hunt and harvest a mature whitetail buck and I would give him all the credits he would have deserved if he had been hunting on land that he had premmesion to be on. Honestly I am not saying anything about his ability as a hunter only his ethics as a person. These type actions give all Hunters a bad rap. There is no telling how many deer that he left to rot in the woods and only took the antlers as his prize. Any one how condones this action needs to rethink his or herself as a person let alone a hunter and or an outdoorsman

      @@countrystrongoutdoors3603 Your points are all valid. I can't argue with you on the ethics or morality of trespassing/ killing deer illegally. However, indulge me if you will. I've been hunting since the early 1960s. To me, the way hunting has evolved over the decades is disgusting and disheartening. What was once an enjoyable, relatively inexpensive pastime has become big business that is cost prohibitive to the average hunter. I live in Michigan where it's virtually impossible to get permission to hunt on private property and I refuse to hunt state land. The places I hunt, I'm technically trespassing. I never sneak onto land owned by an individual, rather, the places I hunt are owned by corporations, etc., that other people would never think to hunt. It's amazing the places deer will live. Anyway, I have to work harder than the average guy simply because of the added limitations and possibility of prosecution. Am I happy I have to resort to these methods? No, but a trespassing ticket is cheaper than thousands of dollars for a lease or a guided hunt.

      Leif thank you for telling the truth. You said exactly what he was. For me at the end of the day it's the wanton waste for what? They left countless deer laying ( meat and antlers ) for what justifiable reason. None. Any legitimate hunter that has spent countless hours deer hunting on private/public knows the advantages were stacked in Charles favor. High deer numbers with a herd that got very little pressure which over time produced a lot of very mature bucks. Even a below average hunter would have been successful in there.

    Well.....hmmmmmm. Not sure what to say. The stories were interesting for sure. I do hope his health gets better. With that being said, do it with a recurve or long bow and I would be more impressed and it was on legal ground. I know a person, who has passed, that hunted poachers. He would go out and look for poachers and stalk them and locate them and than turn them in, caught in the field with their gear and trucks. Love it. Yes it was very dangerous and he knew it but he said it was more exciting and scary than hunting any deer he had ever hunted. He would spend months just watching areas he thought were being poached. He was told you know you may get shot some day? Sure I do, he said. The stories he could have told. He helped bag more than forty poachers. It started with someone killing a large buck on his property and taking nothing but the horns. He said, it was a passion after that.

    I wish I had known you could sell poaching stories, I started at 13 hunting a large cattle and timber ranch in marion county fl,took 9 years before they caught me,averaged 2 to 3 deer a night 5 days a week it was a job how we ate and got money by selling meat to a local restaurant that judges and lawyers ate lunch at,and the meat came from the land they paid to hunt,but I didn't hunt for trophies I hunted for meat and money,business owners would buy bucks off me to mount and hang in their homes or stores,but the little mom and pop restaurant next to the court house,bought deer heart and the livers from me and back strap wasn't nothing like being 16 years old in the late 80s and having a pocket full of crispy 100 dollar bills the prince of poachers used mop heads on his boots to cover his tracks,I cut the souls off my old work boots and glued them on backwards so the range riders would look in the direction It appeared I was going,I'd be back home and it looked like I was heading out,the thg finally caught me at home my girlfriend at the time turned me in for the reward,my first criminal offense it cost me the $5000 reward,suspended hunting license for 2 years,and 6 months probation,and I agreed not to go to trial and say that the judges and lawyers were eating illegal meat,all these years I could have wrote book and been famous who knew people were interested in fire hunting

      Strategy, get someone to drop you off on land that he didn't have permission to hunt. Hunt in an area that receives little to no pressure, shoot a buck, cut horns off and sneak home. How about that strategy. Don't make the thief sound anything else but what he was.

    I will never understand why people celebrate this man. Sure his stories are entertaining but at the core of it he was nothing more than a thief. All you guys praising this man and calling him a legend would have a different outlook if he had been slipping on your property killing all the money and time and hard work you had put into these deer. When I was younger, in my high-school days, I did my share of poaching. I got caught and paid the price for it. But looking back now, I realize how selfish and stupid I was. How little self control I had. Why give this man publicity and praise? I just don't understand it.
