    I took my 2017 Rubicon on on the trails yesterday and hit the mud puddles a little too much. It was one heck of a long right home and multiple stops at the self wash to try to alleviate the heat and blast the mud off the front side of the radiator. I'll be using this tutorial later to try to remove the fan to get to the back side of the radiator with pressure washer. Thank you for easy break down videos like this!!!! you have no idea how much help these are!

    If your Thermo-Fan isn’t turning on check where the power plug on the radiator there’s a 10mm bolt which holds in the sensor, check to make sure it’s clean, many times I’ve seen them covered in dirt & even mud from wasps but just check it first it might help…✌️

    I'm so glad my jeep wrangler is the same that you're working on. Now I know how to replace my wrangler fan now . Before that I've been research why my fan is not working. One of my friend said clutch fan and he got me ordered clutch fan for nothing 😆 🤣

    Great video man! You don't necessarily have to remove the lower airbox though, I opted not to as I broke a peg last time I pulled it out

    Fantastic video! My 2008 jk is overheating in park and at idle. Goes back down to normal temp when I start driving again. Fan engages trying to cool down the engine. Should I replace the fan?

    is there a way to test the motor while it's still in the Jeep trying to troubleshoot why I'm having high temps fan isn't coming on at all I don't want to take it out and then have it be fine

  • @karenpearl834

    how do you know if the fan is bad it dosen't seem to keep the engine cool

    • @MotorCityMechanic
      @MotorCityMechanic  5 лет назад

      I recommend supplying a power and ground to it to see if it comes on. If it doesnt then you have a bad fan. If it does then we havbe other things to check.

    • @miopera40

      The best way is to trade the JK for a good TJ. Most of the time an electric fan goes bad or the radiator sensor triggering these, the engine overheats. I haven't reached that point on the JK yet, knocking on wood here, but I just hope all the electric/electronic crap just shows a warning if that ever happen.

      miopera40 nothing like an old mechanical fan.

    Is the fan supposed to start when you turn on your jeep? My 2012 Jeep Wrangler over heats periodically once a month AT LEAST and chugs the coolant faster than normal
    I always have to flush the system and take out the the air when it over heats but it will only last for about 3-4 weeks smooth

    • @MotorCityMechanic
      @MotorCityMechanic  4 года назад

      The fan will only come on when the coolant temp reaches a certain temp and also when the a/s pressures reach a certain pressure.

    Thank you for the great video. I own a 2012 Jeep Wrangler JK and the radiator fan just after a bit of driving, starts up and does not shut off.I took the Jeep to the dealer and they said the fluids were low- that was not the case. Can anyone offer any advice? Thank you - You Tubers!

    • @MotorCityMechanic
      @MotorCityMechanic  4 года назад +1

      Its going to depend on 2 things....the coolant temp and also if you are running the a/c or defrost. It will come on for all the above. It will require checking to see if the temp rises quickly and to see how it does both driving and idling. It can be monitored using the scanner to make sure its operating as commanded and not staying on when not commanded due to other issue or failure. Otherwise its one of those "got to have my hands on it to see" type situations. Maybe someone will have some input as well when reading this comment so keep your eye out for replies. Thanks for the question and make sure to subscribe.

    Thanks for posting this. I'm taking on this project soon on my 2014 Wrangler JK. The fan will not stop running on high, and I have been recommended to replace the whole fan. Do you have any recommendations on what fan to replace with. Is there an after market fan that is better than OEM. Thanks again!

      I had an issue with my JKU running slightly hot. I have 126k miles on it so I figured the OEM parts had done their best. I flushed the whole system as-is and then upgraded to the Cold Case brand radiator (Cold Case Part #: MOJ995) and fan (Cold Case Part #: FAN16), swapped my water pump (no issues with it but it's

    I am seeing my fan is getting both low and high speed power at the same time causing the fan to not turn on at all. If I remove one of the relays (low or high speed) it will run at the other speed all the time. Do you have any experience with this?

      @@MotorCityMechanic Just less power but more torque. Less reliable too. It's no wonder the newer generations aren't buying cars. The newer models are garbage.

    How do you test these fans to make sure the fan is bad?

    • @Searay68
      @Searay68 3 месяца назад

      if your Thermo - fan isn’t turning on at 110*C + - 230*F + you’ve got a problem, a lot of Jeeps don’t have a temperature gauge that reads in numbers, I use an OBD2 to plug in and watch the temperature come up to the desired temp is one of the best ways to check, there’s also a sensor built into the fan where the plug is there’s a 10mm bolt unscrew that and the sensor will come out, check it’s clean, mine was covered in a thick dust or mud so my fan sensor wasn’t working properly hence the fan would only come on at high temperatures, maybe this may help for in the future.
