Hi Matthew, keep up the good work we are not hindu but my husband is craving roat I will definitely try this recipe I used your roti and vermicelli recipe perfect thank you have a great day it's good to see the younger generation still keeping up the the traditions. Stay safe.
Matthew I made this and my family thought it was super delicious. The entire three roat was eaten in less than 30 minutes 😂. Thank u for a great recipe
I have made this recipe without cherries only because I couldn’t find the type. Everyone loved the taste asking for more. I can only make roat in my hanuman pooja time although I religiously pray to him every Tuesday once a month we have Ramayan satsangh with 25 to 40 people . Thank you for sharing this amazing recipe.
People normally dont use the cherries bc they are usually coloured red from bug shells (carminic acid). Your channel is great for us 1st generation non guyanese. Thanks for keeping the food traditions alive
Wow I have never heard of that. I will look into it. We use the glace cherries versus maraschino so maybe they don't have it. Thanks for letting me know.
Best roat i ever had. Thanks for the video . Thanks to your aunt chitra for teaching you. Great job. Keep showing more of our tradition guyanese style. Blessings.
Matthew I love all your recipes, I made lapasie yesterday for Durga Mata and it came out so beautifully, and tell Aunty Chitra thanks for all the tips, also I will make Roth for Hanuman Ji soon, I love your altar, I am very impressed, god bless you and I just love everything about you. Mata bless you. Jai mata Di🙏😘👍❤️🤗👌
Happy Hanuman Jayanti! Thank you for the wonderful recipe. I never cook anything before but today I decided I wanted to make roat for Hanuman so I followed your video and it turned out very delicious!! I was afraid to add the raisin and cherry since it is my first time but next time I’ll definitely try it. Thank you once again and Hanuman blessings to you!!!
So I was craving roat n I decided to use your recipe...it came out amazing..this is like 10 out of your many recipes I have tried and everything was delicious..thanks for sharing
You can use it but I’ve never tried it. You would have to grate the jaggery into the dough or dissolve into the milk. Maybe for 2 cups flour use like 1/2 cup jaggery??
Dear Matthew Thank you so much for sharing this roth recipe. It helped me a lot! I made it today on the occasion of Hanuman Jayanti and my loved ones love it a lot. Please do keep up the good work. Going to try more of your recipes warm greeting from the neighboring country, Suriname Rachana
Matthew, this is Ranie Sookram of Toronto, Canada. Last night I watched you make Rote on youtube. I followed you from beginning to end and today, this morning we were performing Hanuman Pooja for my birthday which is on Thursday. My rote and my Prasadum came out exactly as yours, I shared with all my friends. But I want to mention something to you, you don't have to use it, but a gentleman, a cook man for the Mandir, makes the best rote here in Canada, and he told me that whenever he makes rote, he puts a small piece of mashed Banana also in the flour, he said Hanuman loves Banana and that why he does this, what do you think of this idea. Anyways my rote was quite good, I also followed you on the Prasadum and that also came out good. Thank you very much Matthew, stay safe and well. Ranie Sookram.
Thanks for sharing that wonderful receipe..as a Hindu the reason I opt not to use the cherries is it contains red 40 which is made from insects and not appropriate to use for offerings, lots of folks are not aware, who would even think that cherries would contain this? Just thought I should share for general knowledge.
I have heard this before but didn't know the truth behind it. When we make roat for puja we usually just put raisins anyways. I usually put the cherries when making it to snack on at home
Was thinking of making some peera for Mandir but after seeing this I'll definitely make some roat. .thanks for the recipe Matthew so simple and amazing recipe ..God Bless xoxoxox
Looks great. Hindus In South Africa also make Rhot as an offering to Lord Hanuman. Do you know the origins of Rhot although made by South African Hindus we have no idea on it's origin?
The origin of roat comes from India. It is commonly made for Hanuman Puja, but it has many different spellings around world (roth, roat, rota, roath, etc.)
I just stumbled upon this channel and it's the only Caribbean cooking channel I like. As someone who left Trinidad as a kid, coming back to these Caribbean channels annoys the hell out of me. No one knows how to write a recipe, or speak properly. They use the wrong words to describe ingredients and don't give a shit about doing any research. This channel is different. You explain why to do the things you do and don't just mindlessly throw out a recipe. Great job man, keep at it. :)

@@matthewsguyanesecooking4601 Thanks Matthew Do you know which part of India ?
@@preyensingh3250 Roat is from Uttar Pradesh and Bihar regions.
The origins are modern day Uttarkhand in Northern India
Roat not supposed to have cherries or Raisin
Roat ing
Flour
Sugar
Eliche
Honey
Ghee
Ripe bananas
Evaporated milk
Different recipes everywhere. There’s not one set recipe

Can I use oil instead of ghee
You can use oil. But it would be best with ghee or a mix of ghee and oil. If you decide to fry in oil, make sure you put ghee in the dough still.
Awww ok thanks so much 🇬🇾 I really love ur recipe
Where did you get the demerara sugar from? In Toronto?
I got it from Bedessee (they have locations in Florida, NY, Cananda)
Any west Indian grocery store will carry it.
What type of cup to measure the flour
The standard dry measuring cups.
I watched the video three times and it doesn't show me how much of each ingredient to use can you please list it again here thank you
You need to look in the description box right below the video.
We add fennel seeds to it
That would be good. Some Guyanese folks add anise, cardamom, nutmeg, cinnamon, etc.
for how many days we can preserve ROAT and how ??
It can say for a few days in a ziplock bag. The trick is to keep it away from air so that it doesn't get very hard right away.
thank you bro jai Hanuman ji@@matthewsguyanesecooking4601
Measurement please
In the description box right below the video
how much Roat you got from this measurements ?
3 large roat or you can get 5 tiny ones
Why is roat always so few on a jhandi? 🤔
Lol we make a lot when we have jhandi. It’s a family favorite
Matthew,s your house is very beautiful, this is your second type roat
Thank you. Yes this is my second roat video.
Try blending the milk, raisins n sugar
I do that as well. Will redo it soon
Hi ... whats the measure of the ingredients please
They're in the description box below.
We don't mix sugar and milk.South Africa
A lot of people make it differently
Can I fry in normal vegetable oil?
You can but the taste will be a little different.
U can also blend the fruits with milk and sugar and it won't fall out
I made it like that recently and they were even better. I will post the video closer to Navratri
My dear you no need to additional cherries or evaporated milk only real milk sugar ghee and raisins are used
You can definitely make them your own way. This is the way we make it and will continue to make it
