Awesome, thank you, pretty helpfull. A hint for everyone who has trouble getting this Thing to thread: its probably a missalignment of the needle-up-and-down mechanism and the turning-thing-with-a-hook in the bottom. The hook has to be just bevore the needle when the needle is at its lowest position. Only then it can take up the upper thread and wind it around to then in turn take up the lower thread. The machine can be taken apart quite easily: remove the sunken screws on the back as well as stitch-type-selector-wheel-thing, then remove the front cover (its a bit fiddly, but with a bit of wiggling and some gentle force it will come off). Then have a little lough at the chincy motor. The catchy-hook-thing is turned by a little gear, which is fixed by two screws. Turn the needle fully down, remove the screws, pull the gear back until the hook-thing turns freely, turn it until the hook is just before the needle. Then assemble it again and follow the instruction in the Video. Should work fine then.

Oh Wow!! I have had my Mini JL Sewing Machine for years now. I used it back in 2015 to make a Wedding Garter for a family member but since then has been sitting in it's original box. I took it out today to sew a hem on my five year old Grand-Munchkins' princess dress. I do have the written User Guide version of the machine but wondered if YT had a visual tutorial for me to follow as a visual learner tbh and I came across your tutorial, first in line. I learned, by watching you, that I had threaded up the cotton slightly wrong. Thank you for your concise, courteous and friendly tutorial. Have a nice day and continue to stay safe as best as one can 😷😊🌹 I have since subscribed to you channel.
Thanks for the video. Gives me a good perspective on this machine. One flaw is that I couldn't fully see how you threaded the machine, but I get the gist of it. Makes me feel a little more comfortable in buying this machine since it's not as pricey.
Don't know if you'll see this comment as I can see this tutorial is 4 yrs old now. But thank you so much! I have a larger sewing machine but recently inherited my daughter's JL mini which she never used. Lost the instruction manual year ago and I wanted to use it for sewing mixed media crafting - fabric paper and collages etc. Your tutorial is a godsend. 😊🥰💕. Thankyou!😊

I found one of these at Goodwill for $25. I do appliance repair was interested in how well it was built. All nylon gears were very well crafted and moved smoothly. The only disappointment was that the DC electric motor was a common low cost kind found in toys, BUT this means that it is low cost to replace. Held in place with two screws and wires soldered on. No voltage or current regulation circuit. Runs on a wall power module, 6VDC 1200mA. I planned on using this machine on multi week long sailing trips.
Wow...All of that is so interesting. In the UK, this machine is marketed to the children's, beginner market but I have always enjoyed how portable they are and therefore great to rake on holiday. Once I submit to the lack of speed, I am happy that it can sew most fabrics by my changing the needle according. Thankyou
I can't thank you enough for this tutorial! I just bought the Janome mini (in a weird mint green and purple) because I need to make two dozen cage liners, but it's been sitting in my living room in a box. I had no idea what to do with it. I learned how to darn socks as a kid, and that's about all I can do lol. I can use the machine now! This is way less terrifying than I imagined. It's so easy, I might even finish my cage liners today =)
Picking up a new skill during quarantine I haven’t touched my sewing machine it’s fairly new but 4 years old since I had it I can’t wait to get good at it💖💖💖

You're a wonderful teacher. I just had one of these machines delivered today, so I can sew masks. I got it threaded without too much trouble, but ended up bending the needle on the elastic and the mask was too tight, but I didn't think it was too bad for my first time using a sewing machine since Home Economics class in 7th grade (I'm 56). I'm now ordering lots of extra needles. ;) I think the next one will be better. Thank you.
Great news!!! Thankyou for taking the time to tell me. If you get stuck changing the needle, here's another, much shorter video for you ruclips.net/video/7_xMw4judzc/видео.html
Other than at 7:32 (I couldn't get the machine to wind my bobbin so I wound it by hand), this tutorial was great! I'm 14 and want to try my hand at sewing! I couldn't for the life of me figure out how to thread my machine so this helped a lot!
That's good to hear....watch again about winding the bobbin....it goes around the button looking thing and not where you thread the machine and . .you have to remember to push the bobbin wonder to the left to make it happen. (But remember to push back to the right afterwards before sewing) Tree X
@@StitchlessTV thank you, but i've tried doing that already, i had everything correct and I even tried winding the thread two different ways but it still wouldnt work
I'm really struggling with the bobbin at the bottom.....not sure I have it the right way? Can't really see in your video, which is a shame as you are really really informative .
Hello, bobbin goes in with the ad goung anti clockwise. The key but is listening to how I say you bring up the thread, it is very important not to pull thread too soon. Can you soon in with fingers on phone? Good luck, Tree
Thank you so much for the help. I was trying it out on my own before watching this video and could not realize what I was doing wrong. The bobbin thread was the tricky part- your step to step guide is really handy youre a great teacher!
Thank you so much for this video! I don't sew, but my 6 year old daughter really wanted to learn. This video helped us sew a simple pillow for our first project. The zoom was a bit far away sometimes, but I managed to follow along nicely because you explained everything so well. Thank you again!
Thank you sooo much for this video!!! I just bought one the other day , and got horribly frustrated on how to thread the machine let alone operate it !! This is my first time getting one at my old age . Reading those instructions looked easy, but when I tried, it wasn't til I just saw your video I stumbled upon just today :-) Thank you. I have alot to learn :-)

Than you for this tutorial. I was getting frustrated with the appearance of my stitches. I was about to give up on sewing when i decided to look on You Tube and found your tutorial. After following your instructions I was able to continue working on an apron without stopping every minute.
@Hanna Oakes, I'm in the same boat. I have 5 sewing machines and I can't believe I can't get this one working. It wont bring up the bobbin thread. I first took out and reinstalled the bobbin case as it had some loose. Still had the same issue. I then diagnosed a timing issue by watching another video of a working machine. I opened the machine while referring to the service manual which is available online. I adjusted the timeing correctly and adjusted the needle clearance. It will now pick up the thread with the bobbin cover off but as soon as I re assemble the machine, it won't pick up the thread. My usual technician won't touch these machines because they have plastic gears, but when I told him what I did, the only advice he had was to swap out bobbin cases and covers with another unit until it works but I don't know anyone else with this machine. Maybe if you do, you could try this? Every machine like this, I see for sale all say, electrics fine, but wont pick up thread. Someone must have a solution!! This machine was sold under a number of badges so thankfully there are loads of videos and blogs available to view. @ stitchless TV, I love you videos, they are so entertaining!

Thank you so much for your focused and detailed instructions! You are straight to the point with each step of set up, but you are detailed enough to show us all the important steps. I really appreciate that, as I needed this to figure out my machine and learn how to sew c:
I'm sewing! Lol. Spent 2 hours though with the machine constantly unthreading itself. I was actually doing 2 things wrong. The first was the hook you go through right above the needle. I thought you were talking about the silver screw used to hold the needle in place. It didn't look like a hook but it was the only thing there. I got a light and a magnifying glass though and eventually found the hook you meant. The second thing was how you run the thread after it goes through the needle. I wasn't running it down through the center of the foot. In both cases you did say it was important. I just couldn't see what you were doing in the former and just messed up the latter. I'm more of a visual type person I guess. After watching the video about 5 times I finally caught on to what you were saying to do. Anyway, seems to be a cool little machine. Btw, I'm not sure if it was just a coincidence or not but mine came set to "4" on the tension like you recommend. I wonder if they got too many returns from people having it set to 1 and thinking it was broken? That's probably what I would have thought.
Amazing video! Thank you so much!!!! I’m a complete beginner and I’m having so much fun!! You’re so good at explaining things, I was super overwhelmed at the start as it looks super complicated but you have calmed me down and now I can do it!! So, what exactly does the bobbin thread do if it's just loose on the bottom? You don't tie a knot in the thread before you start? And you don't tie the top thread to the bottom thread?
the amount of breakdowns this has prevented- thank you kind british lady

I thanks my Lord for you. I bought this machine like 2 year ago and it damaged on me. So I went and bought another one. And I followed your directions is it sew beautiful. Thank you so much.
Great news. Thankyou
Thank you so much for your videos! I am 41 and have never learned how to use a sewing machine before today- your videos walked me through perfectly how to use myEXACT machine! Thanks a BUNCH!! :) I am so glad I found you!
+noellerich32 Wow.....Nice to wake up to comments like that!! Makes me very proud, thankyou. Tree x (feel free to tell you the sewing machine supplier or manufacturer, they don't really take me seriously) x
Bloody brilliant! If only all 'how to' videos were as clear and well explained as this. BIG thanks!
Glad you think so! Thankyou. Tree
Thank you for this tutorial. It has helped me so much while learning to use this sewing machine. The instructions that came with it were definitely not as clear, informative and thorough as this video. Learned a lot!
Glad you found it helpful
Have a nice day and continue to stay safe as best as one can 😷😊🌹
I have since subscribed to you channel.
Wow....Thankyou.....What a beautiful message to receive. So glad you found it helpful. X
@@StitchlessTV you're welcome 😊🌹
Thanks for the video. Gives me a good perspective on this machine. One flaw is that I couldn't fully see how you threaded the machine, but I get the gist of it. Makes me feel a little more comfortable in buying this machine since it's not as pricey.
I wish I had this lady as my teacher in high school instead of the hateful old bat I got. I would have kept sewing. Such is life I guess.
Thank you! Years i had mine in my cupboard for years!!! I finally got it out. I cannot wait to try this! Such an helpful video
That's great news! For when you need a quick reference watch our shorter video of How to thread a sewing machine .
This helped, but for the love of goodness ZOOM IN!!!
Yes agree so we have made this short Video with Close Ups ruclips.net/video/EgU-CnpqKL8/видео.html
😊🥰💕. Thankyou!😊
I sure do see all comments and thankyou so much for taking the time to leave one. X
And if ever your daughter needs a shorter video of how to Thread a machine with more close ups, this might ve good ruclips.net/video/EgU-CnpqKL8/видео.html
Spend 2 hours trying to thread this through the website couldnt figure it out. But thanks to you I was able too!!! Thank you so much!! It was great video and I am a beginner sewer!!

Excellent tutorial. I bought my machine years ago, and like Giovanna Sheward I could not get it to work.I got it out of its box today May 2018 went online and I was advised to look at this video, and hey presto within minutes i know exactly what to do. Many, Many. Thanks..

Thank you so much. I was lost getting that bobbin thread to come out the right way to meet the top thread. I'm good to go now.
Oh....that's such good news! Have fun. Tree x
Awesome. Thank you. I haven’t used my machine in 5 years and had completely forgotten what to do. It all works perfectly! 😊
I bought this same machine, different color. This tutorial was so very helpful. Followed exactly as instructed, and it worked great. Thank you!
+NONA2509 Very please to hear that. Thanjyou for taking the time to leave a comment. Tree x
Great step by step instructions. Thanks!
Thankyou so much, we also have this new one as people were asking for more close ups. Have fun, Tree x
+SilverClaerity Hooray.. ....I'm so glad it helped you. Tree X
thank you sooooo much .... this video is very helpful and easy to follow. I thought that I will never be able to use that machine. It workssss!!!!!!
That's great news. My pleasure
Picking up a new skill during quarantine I haven’t touched my sewing machine it’s fairly new but 4 years old since I had it I can’t wait to get good at it💖💖💖
Great news.....Well if you still need more videos to watch if threading a machine, here's another one ruclips.net/video/EgU-CnpqKL8/видео.html Have fun and feel free to ask if you Have any questions. Tree x
If you get stuck changing the needle, here's another, much shorter video for you ruclips.net/video/7_xMw4judzc/видео.html
thanks, great video!!
Kind of you to take the time to say. Thankyou.
Thank you. I had forgotten how to thread this little machine. I am making my own masks. Great video, and helpful. Well explained.
That's great news....glad to be of help. Tree X
You are awesome. My first time figuring it out and im so happy i watched your video, because you are a good teacher.
Thankyou. Good luck and remember to have fun sewing.
Thank this helped a lot and all so I like that even after a couple years you still answer the questions on this video. Thank you!
I do try to when I can. Tree x
@@StitchlessTV thank you, but i've tried doing that already, i had everything correct and I even tried winding the thread two different ways but it still wouldnt work
Is your machine a new machine. What brand and type?
I have created a new video of how to thread a machine with lots of close ups and details ruclips.net/video/EgU-CnpqKL8/видео.html

@Hanna Oakes,
I'm in the same boat.

Great tutorial! Thank you so Much!
I'm sewing!
Thankyou so much for the valueable feedback. I must do another vidro with more proper close ups but so glad thst you got there on the end. Tree
101perspective thank you so much for saying about the hook, I was putting it around the screw thing too 😩
Thankyou for this - super helpful and nice energy ♥️
I am glad. Thankyou for the feedback. Always good to hear.
Thank u so much, you made it so easy for me to follow

Amazing video! Thank you so much!!!!
I’m a complete beginner and I’m having so much fun!! You’re so good at explaining things, I was super overwhelmed at the start as it looks super complicated but you have calmed me down and now I can do it!! I just don’t know which side is the front and which is the back yet! 😅
Really?? That's great news.... Well just take your time and this pleated mask tutorial that I made for some friends of mine, could be a good place to start ruclips.net/video/ID7Aw9Zbfd0/видео.html Tree x
So, what exactly does the bobbin thread do if it's just loose on the bottom? You don't tie a knot in the thread before you start? And you don't tie the top thread to the bottom thread?
Thanks a million for your tutorial!!!
My pleasure. You may find this one helpful too, shorter video with lots of close ups ruclips.net/video/EgU-CnpqKL8/видео.html
