  • Humanity’s nuclear arsenal is capable of destroying all life on Earth. Over. And over. And over. Maybe it's time we dumped it far away. We might want to inhabit other planets in the future, so how about our closest star? How many nukes could we throw at the Sun? What would be the price tag for this mission? And could we accidentally destroy our only source of daylight?

It's not just about finding enough money to make antimatter. It's the time required also. At our current technological level it would take longer than the age of the universe to produce anything meaningful. And then there's the technological challenge of storing it which we haven't solved. Then how do we control the energy release from using it to boil a cup of tea, to travelling the solar system? Or can we only let it go in a single burst like a bomb....

Carbon composites for protection from the 1377C sun. Tungsten and titanium both melt above 1600 C. I'm sure an alloy could be made to withstand similar temperatures, and if some sort of active, or even possibly passive cooling features were incorporated then it could probably withstand more. I think the best chance humans have to survive indefinitely is to mine planets to their core and build a structure around a star so we can use it to power a giant craft made from planets we mine for building materials and fuel. Imagine terraforming a planet just to grow food, lumber and make fabrics for everyone on board, and then we just toss what's left of the planet into our sun and move on to the next solar system and repeat the process. With enough materials additional ships could be made and they could either stick with us or go the opposite direction to spread humans around the universe as much as possible. Then when there are no planets or stars left in the galaxy the ships can all meet and as the human population declines they can use the ships as fuel until there is nothing left. Imagine being the last thing in the universe. It's either that or we need to evolve to survive in open space and grow large enough to consume galaxies.

Hi there! Gr8 channel! Had subscribed for a while now and love it. So, question: the antimatter present on our planet...where is it present exactly? If matter and antimatter combined can create a lot of energy and annihilate eachother, how can we never saw that reaction? I mean, since all arrond us is matter... How can matter and animatter coexist here (and anyother palce)? And, if the big bang explosion created equal amougs of matter and antimatter, where did all that antimatter went?
Thank you so much and keep up with the great videos! (:

Don’t think the sun would die if it ran out of helium. Pretty sure it would just move on to fusing helium and become a red giant where eventually it will swallow the earth

The cost would be literally zero if the failure to do so would be the extinction of humanity. Experts and materials would cost nothing as we would have to unite all of our efforts to make this happen. As stated, we couldn't make a dent in it with nukes, bit of there was a way, humanity would have to put aside their differences to accomplish the herculean effort.

OK, and what if nuke the Jupiter? Asteroids impacts can make quite a show on its surface so all our nukes could at least create a new Great Red Spot.
