This was a great pick for MLK Day. U2 was one of the biggest bands in the world during the 80s, 90s and beyond. They are legendary and I'm always surprised when I hear that there are folks who never heard of them. They are from Ireland and so much like The Cranberries, who I think you have reacted to before, there will be songs that have lyrics pertaining to the political unrest that is a huge part of Ireland's history when you dive into U2. Bono, is the singer and many of his lyrics are deep or serious. As you can see, he's also got a hell of a voice. I can recommend 20 U2 hits to you, but I always tell every reactor the same thing with this band. Please react to "Bad" from the Live Aid performance, 1985 I believe. Hope mama is doing well today. It's strange to see the empty seat beside you.
I agree. So many epic U2 songs. But you can’t go wrong reacting to BAD by U2-and it *must* be the full Live Aid version (1985). Plus, it won’t get blocked if you do the Live Aid version.
Written about Martin Luther King Jr., "Pride" received mixed critical reviews at the time, but it was a major commercial success for U2 and has since become one of their most popular songs. Irish rock band U2 performed the song, along with "City of Blinding Lights", to upwards of 400,000 people on 18 January 2009 at the We Are One concert at the Lincoln Memorial to celebrate the upcoming inauguration of Barack Obama. Paul David Hewson, lead vocalist (born 10 May 1960), known by his stage name Bono (/ˈbɒnoʊ/), is an Irish singer-songwriter, activist, and philanthropist.
Never heard of U2? Wow, this is the biggest band of my generation. It's like someone my age saying I've never heard of the Rolling Stones or the Beatles.
@Thundertrain go check them out... In an odd way you are lucky, you can go on a journey and discover some truely amazing performances if you're new to U2
Being knowledgeable about history and actually seeing the sites is something we should all try to do. When we only get our news and our version of history from others, we miss so much.
So great to hear your perspective as someone who has been to Memphis and heard MLK's life story. Frustrated to this day, my church youth group went through Memphis and missed out. My white Christian group, went to Beale Island and planned for Graceland. I wasn't an Elvis fan so half of us lobbied to go to the nearest mall. Fortunately we had the best of experiences. For the 1st time in our lives, we experienced being a minority. Shops we had not even heard of. Looks of "What are you doing here?" Understandably. Something about going to the mall was a sense of comfort for teens and what was unexpected and a lesson was people are people. I regret not having the courage to ask my pastor to see MLK exhibit, I did learn more in that mall about racial sensitivity than Graceland ever could. Memphis taught me to experience the world 🌎 Don't stand in Disney to pay to be told its a small world 😊
Saying you haven't heard of U2, is like saying you haven't heard of Elvis. They were and are HUGE. P.S. Very glad that you are open to learning about our fantastic history of artists and music. It's such a rewarding journey!
You guys should check out there song "Bullet The Blue Sky" live in Paris. Definitely a strong message which U2 always tried to incorporate into their songs.
@@christywright4113 So, it's funny when they refer to U2 as if they were a band from the 80s. I've followed them since the beginning and, at least here in Brazil, they fill a football stadium for 4 days in a row in São Paulo, with updated music until today. By the way, I went on The Joshua Tree tour in 2017 and checked it out with new music.
@Patricia R P Oh, they still sell out stadiums here in the US, too. And they had some huge hits in the 90s as well as 2000s. So I find it strange, too. Especially since they were once again the biggest rock band in the world in 2001. But the music industry is always driven by young stars w/ sex appeal. So it makes sense that people would associate them by the decade in which they broke out-and not now that they’re so much older. But they are rock legends no matter what happens from here on out. Cheers from the U.S.
Love U2 In the 1980’s I worked concerts at the Hollywood Sportatorium in Florida and they played 2 night show. They were great and I got Bono’s autograph at their backstage party. AWESOME
When they would sing this song during their tour in the early 90s, the lead singer (Bono) would quiet the crowd down, and they would play a clip of Dr. King's "I have a dream" speech on the big screen.
One positive thing that has come out of this terrible pandemic is that in my spare time, I have discovered this genre of RUclips videos where people discover and react to new music. I really do enjoy it, especially when the reviewers are younger people. I notice that most of them seem to very much enjoy many of the bands that I grew up with! There have been 'big bands' over the years, but U2 have always been monolithic among them. They will always be interesting I think for anyone who discovers them as they have always had an indescribable "X Factor" to them that is difficult to describe but fun to debate. As a band to react to, I think you could get a lot of mileage from them since they have been around for a very long time now and many of us have grown up with them. Over the decades, we have watched them grow from teens who could barely play their instruments to the seasoned musicians they are now that regularly evolve, experiment, fail, succeed and flourish. They are absolutely the elder statesmen of their genre but they still create and remain a touring juggernaut. They frankly did a lot for the industry; their music, business partnerships and live shows regularly broke new ground (a U2 tour is an event in itself - these guys have been filling stadiums since the 80s). Their sound has dabbled in post-punk, nuwave, anthemic Americana, rhythm and blues, cyberpunk/industrial, dance and just straight-forward rock. I'll be interested to see your reaction if you choose to explore them further. Cheers !
U2 is a very serious band. Bono is the lead. They sing for love & justice. Very special group-from Ireland. Singing about the death of Martin Luther King in 1968.
What a fantastic pick for MLK day. Another would be "If I Could Dream" by Elvis Presley. Dr King's death had a profound effect on Elvis. It's a beautiful song as well. U2 is probably top 10 greatest rock bands of all time.
Perfect pick for today. This band out of Ireland dominated the music world when it was saturated with hair bands and continued to be relevant and a force to reckon for far long afterwards. Bono has one of the best voices and is such an intense and passionate frontmen. Dig deep into their catalog!!!
U2 is a band of high school friends. They first formed in 1976 and the same members are still in the band today. Bono (real name Paul Hewson) is the lead singer. The Edge (real name David Evans) is the guitar player. The drummer is Larry Mullen, Jr. and the bass player is Adam Clayton. These guys were huge in the 80s and 90s in particular. They are known for their anthemic sound and deep lyrics. I suggest checking out their live performance of 'Where the Streets Have No Name' from Slane Castle. U2 puts on an amazing live show.

One of the few bands who (alone) could fill a football stadium. I saw them at Yankee Stadium (1990ish), and while they were never my favorite band, Bono was the most powerful and charismatic performer I’ve ever seen.
I saw them at the Jacksonville Jaguars stadium in Florida in the 90's! Over 60K seats sold out so fast! Amazing concert. I sang so loud I had a scratchy throat for days. 😂
Larry Mullen Jr on drums. Adam Clayton on bass. David Evans (The Edge) on guitar. Paul Hewson (Bono) on vocals. You're probably hearing some input on overdubbed guitars or keys from Brian Eno and Daniel Lanois on the studio version of this song as well. They produced this album and a few other from U2, and played along on quite a few tracks.
Here's what I found on the name "U2": "In March 1978, the group changed their name to "U2". Steve Averill, a punk rock musician (with the Radiators) suggested six potential names from which the band chose U2 for its ambiguity and open-ended interpretations." The most widely accepted interpretation of it is "U2" is based on their philosophy. They believe that the audience is part of their music and the concert and that "you too" are participating in the music."
@@Boatzilla2 Bono said that they looked at Steve's 6 suggestions & it's the one they hated the least. 😂😂😂 Maybe Steve did get it from what you said! 🤷🏼♀️ They liked it because it's open to interpretation! The one I wrote is just the one most people like & agree upon. Yours could be right!!! Stick with it, I like yours too! 🙂🎵✌
This is a tribute to Martin Luther King, Jr. An exhibit dedicated to the civil rights leader was on display at the Chicago Peace Museum in 1983 when the band visited. I love your channel could you please react to Suicide Blonde by Inxs 🙂
Suicide blonde was the name of the dye that Michael hutchence's (inxs lead singer) girlfriend used.her name is Kylie minogue and she has been releasing music since the late 80's and is the only solo female artist in the UK to have a number 1 album in 5 different decades.
On that same very album The UNFORGETTABLE FIRE thier is a song called MLK its short, but so beautiful and a direct song to him... no pop, just a little love letter song Bono sang to him and it brings tears to me everytime I listen to it. Please, if you see this post, go now and listen, you don't have to put it on air, but on MLK DAY this is the song...
Welcome to the world of U2. I would recommend listening to “Bad (Live)” from the Wide Awake In America album. Stunningly good. Then I would check out any video/track from the Live At Red Rocks concert. Possibly the greatest concert ever filmed.
Live at Red Rocks! Amen. Great call. So many options worth reacting to: New Years Day, Sunday Bloody Sunday, Gloria, Party Girl, 11 0’Clock Tic Tok, Seconds, The Electric Co. I love “40” live, too, but I don’t think there’s a Red Rocks video version of that , is there?
During their heyday one of the biggest bands ever. Quite the catalogue of iconic songs. If you do the Christmas song for Africa which started it all - the song is called "BAND AID do they know its Christmas" - you will see the singer with the other stars. That song is the ultimate Christmas song with all the British stars. Never to be duplicated.
This song is about MLK 🙏 This is U2, big Irish band in the eighties, nineties. Even back then workers in Ireland (a white country) refused to handle produce from South Africa because of apartheid. Some of us have a long history of being allies. 🌑🇮🇪
This version of Sunday Bloody Sunday -Live From Red Rocks Amphitheatre, Colorado / 1983 - Oh my god, this concert changed my life. ruclips.net/video/EM4vblG6BVQ/видео.html or the "hidden version" at ruclips.net/video/nJ7pczp0-JE/видео.html that has more footage. Literally. I was 23 and barely knew who U2 was. My friend and I. I miss her. It was raining so hard, we got soaked and we didn't care. I clapped, I sang, I swayed, I hugged and I cried. I think we all walked away from that concert forever changed. Bono did his best to change the world. A more caring musician than you could ever imagine. And Red Rocks is still the best concert venue in the world.
BESIDES THE ASSASSINATION OF MLK ROBERT F KENNEDY WAS Assassinated in California; lead singer BONO guitarist EDGE Drummer Larry Mullen, JR and bass ADAM CLAYTON. Must check out “With or without you” from the 1987 album THE JOSHUA TREE.
Glad to see young people like you understand at least one reference. I agree; there's nothing like visual experiences to help you feel connected with history.
Love the work you are doing. U2 has become a favorite of mine in recent history. This is one of the songs I like. A couple of other song to look out for is "With or Without you". "Sunday Bloody Sunday" "Pride", "Angel of Harlem" and "Still haven't found what I'm Looking for". Big shout out to you for your reactions to the songs from Queen and Bone Thugs & Harmony. I love those group and their music. One last thing. I'm throwing something totally different for you. This is western country. Try and Check out Marty Robbins especially "Big Iron". After listening to that you will swear you just sat threw a whole movie. His story telling is amazing. A couple of others is "El Paso", " the Hanging Tree" and "Ballad of the Alamo.
U2. was a Irish band who's country went through so much turmoil over Religion and British rule. It is reflected in their music. Great reaction. You should listen to "Bloody Sunday".
@@DublinJimmy80 That's ok. Greetings from NM. My maiden name may be Spanish but on my on my mother's side her grandparents we Irish immigrants "O'Brien' and same for my grandfather Cartney shortened from McCartney. But not all Irish men are dicks but they can be.
Bono is the lead singer. The Edge is guitarist. These same 4 guys have Bern together for 30 some years. That's quite a feat. Their nickname was the biggest band in the world and for like 20 some years they were.
Great song for today, MLK day. Straight from the lyrics, it's about Martin Luther King, and MLK's assassination . "Early morning, April 4 Shot rings out in the Memphis sky Free at last, they took your life They could not take your pride"
U2 have many great tunes. Rockers and slower ones. The lead singer goes by Bono, the guitarist is The Edge, Adam Clayton on bass and Larry Mullen Jr on drums.
U2 comes from the American spy plane shot over Russia back in tge day. U2 are from Dublin, first wa called the larry mullins band after the drummer who put a poster up in school and then was called feedback after the sound of the speakers lol. Best band ever, grew up about 20 mins walk in Dublin hahahaha. Boy..their first album i still think one of the best albums
The song was inspired by Dr. King and a visit to a black history museum. He did get one thing wrong, Dr. king was shot in the late afternoon, not the morning on April 4. It also shows a dichotomy of King and Malcolm X. Germans and Irish were inspired by our civil rights fight as it gave them hope. Dr. King was very aware of their struggles for freedom and equality as well.
This song spits American history, verse 1 about a guy from WW1, verse 2 about a guy from WW2, verse 3 about MLK. Absolutely great song, and this band is from Dublin Ireland.
Bono is the lead singer (:. And he once said that there name is just a letter and a number and the name is open too any meaning (:. But if you want too look at it from different description or meaning. U2 (: . You too (:. Just too put that out there (:
The Civil Rights Museum is still there, attached to the Lorraine Motel where Martin Luther King Jr. was shot. Still going strong, very powerful experience going there.
I came to the comments to say just that. I recommend to anyone going through Memphis to stop there. All the history, the stories, the artifacts, and those two rooms at the Lorraine Motel. I was not expecting that jump back in time.
I am an 80s guy...no fault of my own. U2 changed the map...they were the Nirvana of the 90s, but a decade earlier. Dude, check out their debut album Boy. Fantastic.
U2 are one of the biggest rock bands in history. Simply love them. FYI, U2 collab w/ Kendrick Lamar on their most recent album for some outro/intro verses by the rapper. Kendrick then featured U2’s lead singer Bono on the hook of his track XXX. They performed together at the Grammy’s that year. U2 have also collaborated through the decades with many artists, such as Mary J Blige, BB King, Johnny Cash, and Luciano Pavarotti.
U definitely don't seem interested in listening to the music (by pausing the clip so often). That's a shame. U2 are fucking legends. Bono, the vocalist, also a legend. Not everyone appreciate good music...
This song is about MLK and all others who have been martyred for their strong belief and acts in the name of love. Aside from the verse about Dr. King, he also refers to Mahatma Gandhi and Jesus in the song, tying them together as soldiers for peace and non-violent social change. U2 came out of Ireland in the 1980s, which was being torn by a lot of brutal political violence, including bombings and shootings. So this song represents a reaction to that violence, "In the Name of Love."
U2 at the concert that Queen was also doing to raise money was a good one..u2 playing red rocks was a good concert on film ..was raining but they played in it ..like that one song Bush did in the rain also in a video
“Early morning, April 4…..a shot rings out in the Memphis Sky…..Free at last, they took your life….they could not take your Pride” - One of the most powerful and meaningful lyrics of any song at any time.
The song contains the erroneous reference to King's shooting as "Early morning, April 4," when it actually occurred after 6 p.m. Bono acknowledges the error and in live performances he often changes the lyric to "Early evening..."[
You blew me away! 🙂 Never heard of U2. Wow! U2 have sold around 170 million albums worldwide so far. And the biggest coup of their touring career so far came with their 360° tour between 2009-2011, which set the record for the best-attended tour of all time with a total of 7.2 million tickets sold and an average of 66,000 spectators per concert (me 4 times *lol*). 🙂 But it is never too late to discover one of the best bands of our millenium! Very cool. I like it! And if you really want to blow your mind completly, please react to Nightwish "Ghost Love Score" Wacken 2013. ruclips.net/video/47e_961OQWE/видео.html - And you will experience the best female vocalist of our time - Floor Jansen. And yes, it is Metal.
Dope reviews bro!! I appreciate the fact that your musical taste expands all genre's. Where most reactors will only react to one maybe two types of music. I grew up in Ft. Green Brooklyn in the 80's, so all I really listened to was R &B, Rap, & Hip-hop. But as i got older and went through high school, I discovered Rock & Metal..and I fell in love with it! I still love R & B & Hip- hop though! I think it's important though if we all got in tune with other cultures and types of music that they listen too, then maybe as a human race, we could all understand and admire each other more! Great job, and God bless you bro!👍✌️🔥
Gotta watch their live performances - Elevation (Milan), Bad+Where The Streets Have No Name (Boston), Vertigo (360 Rose Bowl), Still Havent Found What I’m Looking For (360 Rose Bowl), Sunday Bloody Sunday (Rattle & Hum)
U2 is named after the spy plane used in ww2.. Bono the singer liked it because it meant crossing borders, therefore to everybody..(he felt U2's music should get to everybody).. Being a spy plane it could evade radar and, land in your lap, like a U2 album.... Bono is an Irish man(which means in German.' voice box.') is the singer. Adam Clayton is an Englishman that grew up in Dublin with all the other members of the band. The Edge is guitar. Larry Mullen Jr. is on the kit.......He started the band in high school when he put up a poster for band mates.......the boys showed up and jammed in Larry's kitchen
I remember that event vividly in my mind, my soul, being 18 years old and thinking, wondering why I felt such anger upon hearing the news. Then, two months &two days later, RFK is assassinated just a couple hundred miles south of where I lived back then. Graduation practice that morning in June was a blur. It was a heavy fog we entered into and we haven't really come out of! Losing MLK&RFK in such swift succession was horrific and it has stuck with me all my life. Jfk was a blow when I was 13 so I'd already had a taste, but, I started thinking good ppl just aren't supposed to win in this world. You keep up the good works and give your family a hug. We all deserve it and you deserve. Let's all be good to each other, and, if course, it always starts at home! ❤🤜🤛
Pride (In the Name of Love) is ultimately about the courage to make change without resorting to violence, but through peace, and ultimately giving up your life for that cause. U2 grew up in Northern Ireland during the Troubles , a time of sectarian violence between religious groups. So the gravity of effecting change without violence, but through peace, is important to U2. This song commemorates MLK and Jesus Christ.
U2 are my fellow countrymen, they are from Dublin Ireland and one of the biggest bands in the world. They play stadiums all over the world. The singer is just known as 'Bono' (real name Paul Hewson)
That museum is Holy Ground. Memphis is such an important city musically. Sun Records and Stax are bucket list destinations. The Rock and Soul Museum too

Wow. I always thought they were named for the U2 spy plane, as an ironic symbol of the Cold War (USA vs. Soviet Union). I been schooled.
Wasn't u2 their underground in Dublin?
@@ninadembinsky565 Ooo, the plot thickens.
I like seeing your comments in music video reactions 😎
And as for negative comments, take no notice, none of us know a thing til we learn a thing... Every day's a school day!
👏👏👏 I couldn't agree more!
This is a tribute to Martin Luther King, Jr. An exhibit dedicated to the civil rights leader was on display at the Chicago Peace Museum in 1983 when the band visited. I love your channel could you please react to Suicide Blonde by Inxs 🙂
AMEN 🙏 WHAT A HORRIBLE DAY THEY TOOK MLK AND 6 weeks later RFK IN CALIFORNIA
Live version of Suicide Blonde at Wembley in 91 would be awesome!
@@dipsydoodle7988 yes it would be
Suicide blonde was the name of the dye that Michael hutchence's (inxs lead singer) girlfriend used.her name is Kylie minogue and she has been releasing music since the late 80's and is the only solo female artist in the UK to have a number 1 album in 5 different decades.
@@sarablack2547 I didn't know this thank you Sara
On that same very album The UNFORGETTABLE FIRE thier is a song called MLK its short, but so beautiful and a direct song to him... no pop, just a little love letter song Bono sang to him and it brings tears to me everytime I listen to it. Please, if you see this post, go now and listen, you don't have to put it on air, but on MLK DAY this is the song...
To understand U2… should start with their older Hits. Any Hit songs leading up to the1986 Joshua Tree Album. Pride was a great intro to U2 👏
Huge Irish band, video filmed in their home town of Dublin Ireland. Legends of rock😎😘
ARE an Irish band 😝
@@DublinJimmy80 Sorry , "are" a Irish Band. Didn't mean past tense for the band but for the song.
@@aileenturrietta7553 my bad I was being a petty dick tbh, greetings from Dublin Ireland 🇮🇪💯

It’s about trying to live life in the name of love instead of hate.
In the name of love…to Dr. Martin Luther King
"Early morning, April 4
Shot rings out in the Memphis sky
Free at last, they took your life
They could not take your pride"
WOW WOW💯👍
Bro, you reacted to QUEEN AT LIVE AID ...U2 was the 2nd best band at live aid ...watch there set it's awesome
he sings with all his heart and soul
A beautiful heartfelt dedication to a great man MLK ❤️🙏🏼
U2 have many great tunes. Rockers and slower ones. The lead singer goes by Bono, the guitarist is The Edge, Adam Clayton on bass and Larry Mullen Jr on drums.
One of the most powerful songs ever written
U2 comes from the American spy plane shot over Russia back in tge day. U2 are from Dublin, first wa called the larry mullins band after the drummer who put a poster up in school and then was called feedback after the sound of the speakers lol. Best band ever, grew up about 20 mins walk in Dublin hahahaha. Boy..their first album i still think one of the best albums
Lead singer is called Bono
Powerful band!
Bono is the lead singer... The Edge on guitar...Adam Clayton on bass and Larry Mullen Jr. on drums
U2 The first U.S. Spy plane, flying so high bordering space ! Bono is the singer!
I love this group!
As per my comment below, I believe the video is titled U2 - October/Bullet the Blue Sky (Live in Paris 2015)
This song spits American history, verse 1 about a guy from WW1, verse 2 about a guy from WW2, verse 3 about MLK. Absolutely great song, and this band is from Dublin Ireland.
The first time I saw this video as a child, I was exactly like the boy dancing in the video.
Bono is the lead singer (:. And he once said that there name is just a letter and a number and the name is open too any meaning (:. But if you want too look at it from different description or meaning. U2 (: . You too (:. Just too put that out there (:
A great song about an incredibly great man....
“Please let me know who the vocalist is”
Man, I wish there was a website that could answer questions like that.
Saw them in 97 I can tell you for one thing they did not disappoint.
That is the great Bono!!!! U2 is an amazing band...no doubt.
Irish history is worth looking into. Centuries of oppression and persecution. We feel history and stand together.
It just want to correct myself and say it's The National Civil Rights Museum
Best Band in the World. Thx for reaction.
Angel of Harlem is awesome!
I am an 80s guy...no fault of my own. U2 changed the map...they were the Nirvana of the 90s, but a decade earlier. Dude, check out their debut album Boy. Fantastic.
He goes by Bono, though his real name is Paul. Edge"s real name is David. These guys are amazing. This entire song is about racial equality.
Done in their hometown of Dublin
This song is about MLK and all others who have been martyred for their strong belief and acts in the name of love. Aside from the verse about Dr. King, he also refers to Mahatma Gandhi and Jesus in the song, tying them together as soldiers for peace and non-violent social change. U2 came out of Ireland in the 1980s, which was being torn by a lot of brutal political violence, including bombings and shootings. So this song represents a reaction to that violence, "In the Name of Love."
Nailed it. Great description of this epic song.
The lead singer goes by Bono (Bah no) U2 had some really iconic songs back in the 80's and 90's, all quite enjoyable to listen to
U2 at the concert that Queen was also doing to raise money was a good one..u2 playing red rocks was a good concert on film ..was raining but they played in it ..like that one song Bush did in the rain also in a video
Hawkmoon is a good one and Bad was a good one too..forgot about the song they did was a Rolling Stones song .can’t remember the name of it
U2 was named after the spy plane. Sunday Bloody Sunday, live at Red Rocks, is a great one.
He gets the time wrong btw, it was early evening.
If this was the first time you hear this, you're talking out you're hole
“Early morning, April 4…..a shot rings out in the Memphis Sky…..Free at last, they took your life….they could not take your Pride” - One of the most powerful and meaningful lyrics of any song at any time.
Agreed
The song contains the erroneous reference to King's shooting as "Early morning, April 4," when it actually occurred after 6 p.m. Bono acknowledges the error and in live performances he often changes the lyric to "Early evening..."[
This song is packed with similar references. Gandhi, MLK, Jesus himself...
Absolutely a band that was played every single day of my teen years through college and afterwards!❤
Perfect song about humanity and on the perfect day. Bless you for doing this video
Welcome to U2 rabbit hole!!! You won’t be disappointed!!!
Other than the fact that it happened just after 6:00 p.m., not early morning, this is a great song.
Lead singer Bono. Checkout official video of their song " Where the streets have no name"
U2 is one of the best bands- EVER. Keep digging into their catalog, you will not be disappointed!
Well, first on, they are not called RUclipsd. Really? Second. Wake up, do some research, and listen. FFS
“ With or without you” is my favorite song of all time. Bono has a great voice!
Almost 40 years since it was released... And I still get chills from this song from the opening notes
You have to do U2 Until the End of the World its alot darker and more of a heavier rock song and it has an epic guitar solo
Bono . Paul david hewson the edje david howell evans larry mullen junior .adam Clayton
U2 great band in the planet
That museum is Holy Ground. Memphis is such an important city musically. Sun Records and Stax are bucket list destinations. The Rock and Soul Museum too
Favorite band. I’ve seen them 10+ times live. Please react to any of their live performances. They are passionate and absolutely amazing.
Perfect for MLK Day.
