Incredible footage and story! I appreciated your humbleness in telling your story about the ankle since I've also been there. Rolled both ankles & then had to DNF. There's so much doubt & second guessing during & especially after that it still drives me crazy. It was great to hear your acceptance of what happened. #50yearsmemories

haha good point it was quite a pretty boat ride. Getting up a very steep trail to get to a car was not quite so fun!

I just got the Altra Paradigm with EGO sole, Sick had to try them out after running in the Escalante. Road shoe but not for those days your not on the trail. And of course I prefer trail over road any day but hey sometimes the road is just outside the door “unfortunately” Sorry to hear about the ankle, I wrote too fast best of luck on recovery. Michael Bartlett that's it the road is cool sometimes. I have tried the escalantes and liked them but haven't tried any of the other altra road shoes some of the new ones looked awesome though
That scenery looked absolutely spectacular. A real shame you rolled your ankle, but a great excuse to go back there in the future! Great video as always.

Dan, tough crap about the ankle but loads more opportunities coming your way. Sounds like you were lucky with it. Glad you mending. The biggest plus is your attitude and gratitude for the opportunities you have. You are spot on. In the words of Avicii song The Nights - "Live a life you will remember" - and you are doing just that. Lucky bugger! Good on ya! Can't wait for the next vid.

Just had a DNF yesterday, heat stroke. Gutted! Never a good feeling but was definitrly a wise decision. Glad your ancles OK, looks like a super rocky race!
Ah that sucks mate I feel for ya but as you say sometimes it is the right decision to make heat stroke can be very dangerous as im sure you know. Yep it was super technical
Dan Whitehead yeah, it was gutting. I knew it was coming on for hours and just couldn't shake it. I'm not even that sure what I'd do differently next time. I seem to get pretty sick in the heat and that finished me off in the end. You must be having a sick trip :). How are you ever going to return to normal life...

Excellent Video again Dan - would be curious of your impressions running in the Olympus - I am stoked that the new Lone Peak 4.0's will be in my local store this week cant wait to try them out. Glad to hear that the ankle injury was not anything serious - you seem to be running well again in Chamonix. Really looking forward to seeing how you do in UTMB TDS in a few weeks time! All the work and toughness you have shown this summer will pay off there I can feel a good one coming on for you!
Kurt Steege thanks Kurt ahhh you lucky man I'm doing everything I can to try and get some before the race as I need new shoes and all the old lone peaks are now sold out so fingers crossed I can get some somehow. Thoughts on the Olympus next video now that I've done some running in them.

Kurt Steege hey mate nah they don't get lone peak 4 until September I have tried e mailing a few people so I'll wait a few days but if no one gets back to me perhaps I could PayPal you the money for some and shipping and get you to ship them to me here if that's a possibility?
Dan- Sure thing - they came out August 1 here in the USA. Only issue I see is that I am going to be out of the country from 8/9-8/14. As long as that works for shipping and all I will certainly take care of that - they wont have the cool Lite Base on them though!!! (as you know - but my guess is you and SCotty could deal with that as long as you got them in time)

Heya, that was a great vid! Sad to hear though that you couldn't finish the race. I was wondering though, as you also twisted your ankle a few times, if you know of any trailrunning shoe that supports the ankles (much like hiking shoes)? Have twisted my ankels way to many times in the mountains.. Thanks!
thanks! not sure to be honest I know you can get lonepeaks and speedgoats in a mid version but I think they are more designed towards hiking but could work for you check them out

Chamonix hospital is good and cheap. 3 years ago I got an ultrasound no insurance cost less than 50 euros
