Let’s get more folks on the Patreon support too, we all absolutely love these videos, what Dan stands for, and we should be supporting him to keep doing what he’s clearly got a huge talent for. If we all chip in a tiny amount a month, it helps to keep this phenomenal and inspiring material to be made and helps support a great guy
+Dan Whitehead no worries mate, I'll be upping it in the new year. Much, much deserved. Quite the emotional video you put together there, and the Gemma piece was a great addition! Genuinely wishing you the very best in your recovery Dan, must be an incredible battle
Dan, thank you for so articulately sharing how Crohn's disease has effected you, both mentally and physically. My brother fought the disease for 18 years, beginning when he was 6 and has been in remission for 2 years now. Your videos are shedding light on so many individuals' experiences.
Dan , you are easily the best "blogger" on you tube. A term I hate using, as your films/videos are artistic and deserve are the credit you can get. You are able to produce videos that stir a hole plethora of emotions from the battles we all face with training and life. You are so inspiring, humble and "bloody legit"
So glad you are back. I found you last year, I was 290 pounds I found trail running. Now I’m down to 217, running with a crazy group of trail runners and training for races. Running has given me confidence to be a person again. I owe that to you. Keep up the amazing work.
Great video! As a fellow Crohnie, i can really relate to your story. I cried my eyes out with this video. I hope the infusions will work for you and bring you back in the running game. Never give up, stay strong, lots of love!
Your cinematography, music, editing and narrative is just fucking epic. I totally wish you the best with your health challenges. I am happy for your romantic life. But of all, I'm glad you have been able to reconnect with the trails. You have a ton of talent, period.
Loving the Ernest Hemmingway quotes, mate. Sorry to hear you've been down Dan. It's completely understandable. But you're fighting and you will be back at 100% again. I get excited every time I see you've posted a video.
Simply beautiful!!! To create something so amazing out of your problems is a credit to you. Showing us how to make lemonade when life provides you with lemons, inspirational
Thank you for posting this video! You aren’t alone the last couple months. I too have been experiencing anxiety. Over the summer, after finishing my 1st Ultramarathon, I had a blood test that confirmed that something was wrong with my liver. I had been experiencing fatigue and pain throughout my body for 2-3 years. I pushed thru this fatigue somehow over last winter into the spring training for then completing my first 50K. My diet changes helped but, it would come in waves. After the blood test, I started drinking straight celery juice on an empty stomach every morning before my retest 4 weeks later. Keeping my diet clean vegan based with honey sometimes lots of raw organic vegetables and fruit. Meanwhile, I felt better. For the 1st time in at least 2 years, my pain was gone. I felt good and my liver bilirubin levels returned to normal. I am ever greatful for you sharing your story with all of us. Thank you for your rawness. You are an inspiration. We are not alone.
Thank fuck for that. Sound track that reflects the mood of each section and not constant dance thumping beat. The music to introduce the beautiful young lady was perfect. Great visuals, great sounds and great story telling. Top man. And go to see you are doing the odd 10km on Strava. All the best.
I, as many others that love what you share aren't here to just experience trail running. We are here because you share such peace, love and comfort. You are such a wonderful story teller Dan and a wonderful sharer of real life stories. Your videos are like reading a great book that you just can't put down, never wanting to end, reading over and over again. If I had a bookshelf for fav vlogs, yours would be on it! That's why we subscribe :-) Thank You for sharing. Good health, good food and good company to you for 2019.
Seriously the most relatable piece I have either read or seen on fighting both physical and mental health battles. This really is a masterpiece Dan, wish I had seen it years ago
Glad to hear you're feeling better, man. I'm a runner and a dad of a 10-year-old daughter with ulcerative colitis. Since she was diagnosed four years ago it's pretty much been a roller coaster. It is amazing to me how strong and resilient folks with IBD are. I'm inspired by you all and it gives me strength to help my kid in her fight. Wishing you good health! Destroyed but not defeated...
Thanks Sean, really sorry to hear about your daughter I always think how hard it must be for kids at that age. I can imagine it has been quite a roller coaster. Wishing her the best really hope she can find and sustain good health!
I so admire your honesty man, inspiring. Courage isn’t the absence of fear, it’s facing fear and carrying on regardless. You are truly courageous. Good to see you back on RUclips. You’ve been missed. Take it easy dude, stay strong 💪
This one pulled on the heart strings some. Get better man. Your videos are always insanely good and they always make my day better. Keep chugging along I know you will get back to where you want to be.
Hey Dan. So great to get an update and know that you are doing better, I've certainly missed your videos. Happy for you and your lady friend! Cheers, Tim
I was in the middle of a big meeting when the notification came up that you posted - I wont lie I jumped a little and couldnt wait to see the update. Happy to see you doing better and back at it - love the destroyed but not defeated sentiment - got pretty destroyed by the weather last weekend in an attempted 50 miler - was unable to complete it (again) but watching folks like you and what you go through is a great inspiration to me - lets hope 2019 is a better year for both of us!
Dan, you're a great storyteller. Thank you for your videos. Thank you for opening up to us. I'm sorry for what you are going through but I'm very happy you're feeling better. Cheers.
Keep Smiling Dan! No matter how hard it gets remember to smile - you're nowhere near defeated because you are still aiming and moving forward! All the best and looking forward to more films from New Zealand! :)
I have some idea how you're feeling and it's really tough but thankfully it looks like you're making progress in the right direction. I had a brain haemorrhage 2 years ago and after making a full recovery and running a 3:06 marathon, I had to have brain surgery. In the months that followed, I had no inkling to run and no fitness even when I tried. But I got back at it and ran 2 marathons within the year. They weren't anywhere near the PB time and regaining my speed feels impossible most of the time but I'll keep trying. I hope you're back running ultras soon.
Sorry to hear about that it would have been incredibly tough. I can only imagine. Very inspiring that you got back to marathoning regardless of time. 💪
Oh man, the footage is getting better and better! You have to do a full movie or a documentary of ultra running!!!! I LOVE your channel, mate! Best vlogs on RUclips...period!
Great to see you back on the mend pal. Found yourself a kiwi girl! I knew you were a clever dude ;) keep us updated on everything mate. RUclips isn’t the same without your videos
I get stoked when you post because you continue so absolutely smash these videos 👊 Allways find myself relating to a lot your content. Help keep my engine running. Stay strong
Hey, man it is humbling to hear your story, I am here with two broken ribs unable to run or let alone do anything feeling all deflated but it will pass, nothing compared to your worries. Keep on fighting, your videos are getting better and better, I tune in first for the running but it is second now I am here for your story telling and amazing images. Cheers. Get well soon.
maate missed this stuff, glad ya getting back into the swing of things, physically an mentally. As the old proverb says "Fall down seven times, stand up eight" ya only stronger for it
Not only are you one of my favorite runners, but you are one of my favorite artists. These videos are incredible and truly touch me and many others. Thank you and never stop.
Beautiful piece. You are definitely an artist as well as an ultra runner. The difficulties we face make us stronger for what is up ahead. You will become a better person, not a weaker person.
Dan, You.Are.A.Warrior!!!!! And one hell of an inspiration. So glad people like you exist in the world! Hang in there. We’re rooting for you all over the world.
Hey Dan, I watched your video with my girlfriend last night and we both really enjoyed it! Honestly, I know that you are a good film maker, but every time you release another video, it absolutely blows my mind. Just a really well narrated story! I love that you are super genuine, talking about ups and downs. I wish you all the best for the recovery! Slow and steady wins the race! Best, Jonas
Geez that was so raw Dan. Thank you for sharing and I’m glad things are looking up for you mate. I may not be active in my messages to you, but your are in my thoughts all the time. Whether it’s when I put on one of my numerous Ciele caps to head out for a run, think of trail running or upload to Strava.... you are in my thoughts and I send you positive vibes and wishes. Moonlight is a top movie and I’ve seen it a few times. This vid should be called ‘Daylight’, because you are positive light to us all. Keep smiling
so so so real, dan. facing adversity with your chin up. such a raw and beautifully made piece of time you've captured here, so many emotions shared with such grace. peace and respect brotha.
I am your age and although not as serious as Krohns disease, I am have recently started struggling with exercise induced asthma and I have a hard time getting it under control and managing to run normally. I am under so much stress lately, and I am struggling to cope with everything. I hope you will continue to make your videos, even if you don't run as much. I am sure most of your viewers would keep watching. Your life mirrors mine in a lot of ways. I also recently met someone. You are a big inspiration, and you released this video just when I needed it the most. I wish you a speedy recovery, and hopefully you get the disease under control in no time! Take care mate.
Glad this found you when you needed it mate and I will always keep making videos. I hope things improve for you quickly. Try your best to de stress. take your time and do your best to think positively ( its not always easy I know ). All the best.
I originally came for the runner now I stay for the man ✌🏼 Mate been watching your vids for a while now. But this one 🤯 so honest and accurate, it tugs hard at the heart strings. The visuals and audio and their interplay are on point. Here’s to your full spectrum recovery.
Taking care of yourself and getting healthy is always top priority. Absolutely love your videos and everything you do. Stay strong and know you are inspiring so many people.
Running does not define you and neither does Crohn's. Everyone is here watching and supporting you because of you, whatever that is. And who you are cannot really be described in words or watered down to "a runner" or "someone who has Crohn's disease". This video is just beautiful brother. The way you introduce scenery, people, coffee, food is just so majestic. And your aesthetic ooooh. I have no words. Truly inspiring. We will never be defeated.
Hey Dan, again, thank you for this lovely film. Sometimes it takes longer to overcome, or sometimes we just keep on fighting. The struggle is real, exacting, and can be very exhausting. When one feels there's no more left to give, overcoming, sometimes becomes a pipe dream. I am speaking more for myself, seeing through the lens of your circumstance. But we keep on fighting and moving forward and we all root for each other. On a happier note, this is such a wonderful celebration of Gemma!. Im so happy for you!.
Really well put together video. If your videos are super high quality but take more time to put together, that feels like a solid tradeoff. Hope you feel better and keep up the good work!
YES! im so glad to see you making films again. honestly i cant tell you the inspiration you have been to me and getting me to run to help my anxiety and panic attack problems..be strong my man.
This is absolutely the personification of beauty Dan, let this skill take you far. Keep looking after yourself, from all of us. See you soon, and have a great Christmas.
Discomfort is shit, but just as with crops, shit is good for growth. What you’ve said here chimes with what a certain Mr David Savage Goggins has been saying for a long time, couldn’t agree more Dan. Can’t begin to imagine the physical and mental battle you’ve been going through but your struggles and your reflection on them are inspiring people on a global scale. Ultra’s will still be there when you’re ready Dan, I hope you can get just get back to enjoying running at the 10-20km distances first. Obscenely good video, music choices, shots, mix of content, as per usual, every video you make is worth the wait. Really appreciate your honesty, it’ll help many, many people and hopefully it’s a good outlet for you too. Now, off to look up and watch Moonlight...
I so happy your not giving up but I know that's not your nature anyway. So I'm looking forwards to you being back full tilt and enjoying life like before . I'm really sorry you're going through that shit again! Stay strong Dan.
Oh wow this was beautiful...my husband told me to give your videos a try & I’m so thankful he did.... the artistry and the wordsmithery = brilliant... thank you - from a person out there finding her way (diagnosis of MS) .... enlightenment is not found in a full stomach or a soft pillow... BeYOUtiful Merci
You're a real inspiration - beyond your videos being utterly beautiful, you're so honest and true. I hope you know how much you inspire others and how much your videos mean to us all who follow you. Be patient with your recovery :D x
Dan, your videos are beautiful, amazing, and inspirational. Your openness and honesty about how you feel and what you are experiencing will resonate and help others who are going through difficulties. Thank you for sharing this. Stay positive. Wishing you a speedy recovery.
Greetings from Greece. Welcome back Dan, I ve been waiting hearing good news on your health and I m very glad you overcome it, day by day. I don't usually write on media or iin public, but you made me wanna talk to you, like the last time I ve send you a message here. The irony is that I saw all of your videos two two months ago while I was sick and didn't know what was wrong with me. Then I saw your video on Chrons disease, and by that time I didn't know it. The irony is that after two more weeks of searching what's wrong with me I went to the hospital and stayed in for two weeks. Your videos inspired me and kept me company and there I found out(the irony) I have Ulcerative colitis.... Of course its not Chrones but close enough. It triggered two and half months ago and I still struggle. I lost 9 kilos and stopped, obviously, trail running. I don't know when I will manage to start running again but I wanted you to know that you inspire me to keep going. I don't know how to send you a personal message because I don't have twitter or Facebook, etc. So I m sorry if my message was too long and boring. I hope to see your next, inspirational video soon and maybe we could talk in person because I wanted to ask you about diet, exercise, plant based etc, if you can ofcousre, because I m Newby on our disease..... Thank you and I m sorry for the extended message
Wow I'm sorry to hear about the diagnosis that's tough. I'm really glad you have found my videos relatable and hopefully somewhat comforting during a tough time. I know I find comfort watching my favorite channels. Stay positive things will improve and I'm sure you will be able to get back to the trails sooner then you think!
Great to see you back Dan. Even better to hear you’re improving. Hang in there and keep going. you’re an inspiration and an amazing storyteller, thanks for openly sharing your story.

Hey Lizzie sorry to hear about your troubles but thats awesome that you have been able to sort it. It's amazing what a difference diet can make
Thank fuck for that. Sound track that reflects the mood of each section and not constant dance thumping beat. The music to introduce the beautiful young lady was perfect. Great visuals, great sounds and great story telling. Top man. And go to see you are doing the odd 10km on Strava. All the best.

Stay strong brother you got this
Dan, Thank you once again for sharing your passion and your struggles.

Praying for you my friend...much respect!
Great to see you back Dan. Even better to hear you’re improving. Hang in there and keep going. you’re an inspiration and an amazing storyteller, thanks for openly sharing your story.
