- Video from the evening of the 21st of April 2021 and another grain train from Deniliquin, this time operated by Southern Shorthaul Railroad and hauled by the all roots-blown EMD combination of P14, S317, S302 and T363.
Upon arrival in Bendigo, a fifth loco was attached, with P16 being retrieved from the fuel point and added to the middle of the combination between the two S Classes, with the shunt moves to fetch it also shown. The train is then seen for a final time at Kangaroo Flat, making very slow progress through the station for reasons unknown.
Trains seen in order are:
9098- P14, S317, S302 and T363
9098- P14, S317, P16, S302 and T363

Good to see the little "P" leading the big fellows. Great night time flick Brad, value!
Thanks Dave, I don't know why the S's weren't in prime position but I thought you'd like the way they were marshalled!
Great combo of power nice to see some of what we refer to as F units still working Revenue Service somewhere. Great night time shooting
They're rather common in service here, with SSR having seven of the type in service as well as a couple of the double-ended design. There's a few more in preservation and with other mainline operators as well.
What a rag tag bunch of engines. They did the job though.
I still can't help but think a G class would work a treat on this train but hey
wow what an awesome combination of locomotives defo roots blown in this one. Nice video.
It's not the biggest combo I've got on SSR trains of late but still well worth seeing. Thanks.
What a lovely discordant clamour those crossing clangers make in the first shot. Fortunately the sound of the train soon drowns it out.
Hard to find a crossing without the sirens nowadays, it's for the best but they're definitely not helpful when videoing!
Once when I was in kindergarten about 2018 I saw a p locomotive called p12 pulling coaches at Maryborough station
Might have been a tour train
Also there was a green locomotive shunting its coaches and I think it was h5
Did i see S302 in the sheds at Bendigo station on Monday the 19th.?
You would have, it was swapped in for S312 on this train on the way to Deniliquin
Thank you Brad. If they loaded at Deni Graincorp, can they still export it for Emerald Grain at Appleton Dock?
No reason why not, it was a split load for Kensington and Appleton Dock
@JS317Productions Thanks for the info 👍
Just out of curiosity, did they pick up the extra loco for the grades?
I don't think so as the two S's, P and T should have been enough to handle the grades (and they have before), I think P16 was just being transferred to Melbourne and attaching it was an easy way to do so.
At 8:50 the Train rolls through the Point despite it being not being in the direction of travel? Curious if that’s a safe idea and how does the Train Change the point by itself?
Also at 15:10 it’s VL65 not 60 lol.
It changes the direction of the points just by the weight of the loco and the flange of the wheel. Not really a problem for hand thrown points like the one there.
Ok thanks.
Can you please explain what "roots blown" means?
It's a type of supercharging used in earlier EMD models whereas later EMD's (as well as most GE's and ALCO's etc.) are turbocharged.

What happened to all the P class?
P11 is SSR Bendigo North 'shops shunter.
P12 and P15 are still with V/Line on BG.
P13 is with V/Line on SG.
P14, P16, P17 and P18 in service with SSR on BG.
P19 and P21 are owned by Regional Connect and stored at Ettamogah.
P20 is owned by PN but is at Newport I believe with 707 Operations.
P22 is operational on SG in VR livery with the SRHC and owned by Regional Connect.
P23 is nearly operational in VR livery on BG with the SRHC and owned by Regional Connect.
Thanks for that. They’ve been workhorses for many years their role overshadowed i guess by the more well known units. Used to see them alot on the Bacchus Marsh and occasionally Ballarat services in the 90s
@JS317Productions Which is exactly what I said, owned by PN.
If so, that happened without anyone seeing it
i think i might know its going slow because the vlocity before it hasnt clear the section so its poberly running on yellow
Nah the signal was green and had been for several minutes before the train even came into view
@@Greensleeves94 oh I C nw I was only guessing all good
Would that go through Meredith
No, the Bendigo line doesn't go through there.
The train itself does sometimes but isn't that predictable
@@Greensleeves94 yeah because the other day a SSR Grain train went through Meredith with the same Locos at this one did I didn't get to film it
