Let me drop some math and see if anyone thinks about Goku differently; At the end of the battle, Gohan beat Super Perfect Cell with only half his power available (he says this in every version). Super Saiyan 2 is a 2x multiplier over Super Saiyan, meaning Gohan when he first stepped in to fight Perfect Cell had the same power as the end of the fight, and Goku knew this. Even if Gohan never got mad and Android 16 never died and Gohan never snapped, he had the same amount of power as it took to finish the arc. Goku's confidence in Gohan's power did NOT depend on Gohan getting a power boost, JUST on Gohan actually using his power to beat Cell; Gohan only got his ass beat at all because HE didn't want to fight.
Cell is also a cicada btw. Which makes a lot of sense. I guess it’s racist to call him a grasshopper or roach lol let’s keep doing that.
I appreciate how you chose not to pay attention when Cell warned that any touch would bring self-destruction. This is why Gohan gave up, as he was essentially unable to stop Cell from blowing up Earth with the Kamehameha, and if he did, he would explode instantly.
Goku teleported to King Kai’s world because Instant Transmission to work Goku needs to feel ki in the destination. He can’t go to a remote planet because there is no life there, and his quick thinking was to sacrifice King Kai lmao.
Also, when the OST started to hit, you switched to the Bruce Faulconer soundtrack. That’s what it does, makes the scenes hit so much more.
All the help Gohan got was anime filler. In the original manga story all the help that Gohan got was a distraction blast from Vegeta that did next to no damage to Cell.
What I can tell you is that the DBZ anime is the most dramatic version of DBZ you can get. DBZ Kakarot mimics the manga in terms of what happens there. So the game is faithful to the manga than the anime just TLDR. You'll see a lot of episodes where things are drawn out just for dramatics and to fill in the runtime. This is why some newer fans would prefer to read the manga or watch Kai because the pacing is much quicker. Anyway I'm still in the middle of your reaction. Just giving you some information that some people in chat can't provide you because they like giving you their own headcanon instead of the facts. Not saying I'm the most knowledgeable but I've been around these parts for the last twenty years.

Toriyama stated he knew that eventually Gohan was going to be stronger than Goku, even if he didn't know when that would happen, so he built up to it until the delivery. It is unfortunate that Gohan didn't become the protagonist, only to maybe eventually pass the torch to Goten, then maybe Pan, and so on and so forth. That could have been so interesting. But Toriyama didn't think Gohan had the right personality to be the protagonist or something, which with all due respect to the guy, who's still my goat and all, I think is really silly. I'd have understood him better if he said something like, "I don't know how to make the story revolve around a guy that is too level-headed and not actively searching for troubles or motivated to improve his fighting skills". Sometimes you're just better suited to write more active characters, and that's fine. But plenty of stories revolve around passive protagonists. Trouble simply finds them first.

Nah I'm kinda with cheeks on this one. Gohan hesitated to unlock SSJ2 cuz he suddenly turned pacifist on us. But nah Vegeta and Krillin definitely going to hell for letting Cell get this far.
pacifist is a team 4star meme, the real gohan was afraid of ssj2 because his rage always was this uncontrollable burst that scared him, and as expected it got his dad killed

He was trying to provoke Cell into giving up on the fight because he's not afraid of just his power but literally afraid of hurting Cell even if he hates him. However, he learns the hard way that his power is necessary if he wants to save his friends and family.
@@mortalballgt52 its not that hes afraid of it because hes pacifist, its because he is still innocent and doesnt want to become a killer -- its like what happened with goku against freeza and when he looks sad after he thought he killed him. the transformation of ssj required them to give up their innocence. but yes, eventually he learns he has to fight still

It’s not about not accepting Kai, or japanese soundtrack, or whatever else. They are all good in their own ways. But the OG DBZ with Brusce’s soundtrack is just *objectively better* experience.
The moment you switched to the OG Bruce’s soundtrack, you started to mention how the OST is hitting hard, and that’s exactly it. All of the most iconic scenes in this series are 100x more impactful with that OST. I challenge you to make comparisons of for example the following scenes:
-Goku transforming ssj for the first time
-Future Trunks transforming ssj against Frieza
-Vegeta Transforming ssj against Android 19
-Cell’s introduction (continues in two episodes)
-Cell transforms to Perfect form
-Goku powers up for Korin after the hyperbolic timechamber and shocks everyone
-Goku powers up against Cell
-Gohan transforms to ssj2 (this one you saw with 16’s speech, but you should see the beginning of the next episode with Bruce’s ost, I think you switched back to Kai here)
Also couple scenes that go to this category but you actually saw them since you switched to the OG gladly
-Cell freaking out about ssj2 Gohan, and charging that huge Kamehameha which Gohan then counters (here you actually even commented multiple times how hard the ost is hitting - the whole scene doesn’t hit nearly as hard in Kai or even the original with japenese soundtrack)
-Beam struggle between Cell and Gohan, and Cell’s destruction
All of these scenes still give me *goosepumps* thanks to the OST hitting so much for the scene. Despite me seeing the scenes million times already. The Trunks ssj transformation against Frieza is a good example. That hits so hard in the og still today, and I’m always eager to see people react to that episode. At one point one reaction group got to the episode and they were watching Kai, but I was still excited because I thought the scene itself is cool. But to my shock, I felt nothing. The infinitely worse ost left the entire epic scene, one of my favorites, feel like nothing special. Just one scene among the rest.
That is why I always say, first time reactors, *watch the series in og with Bruce’s OST. You can later watch the more manga accurate Kai if you want or read the manga if you get into the series, but the OG gives you the best experience for the series, it’s not even a competition on that regard.

In the Buu saga, Z android 18's voice is much better than Kai android 18's voice. I think the Buu saga is the one arc that the original Z dub did better overall

Gohan doesn't like fighting, unlike Goku. That is literally the reason why he needs Android 16 to pet talk him to let go. The reason why future Gohan is so weak is because everyone is dead, and the world he lives in forces him to be Goku and not himself
But he likes protecting. That's the difference. Goku will let his pride get in the way until someone dies. Gohan snaps when someone he cares about gets hurt. That's why he should continue to train.

Holy shit PLEASE tell me you went back to Kai after this because oh my god the original Z dub is actually unbearable. The voice actors sound like they’re reading off of teleprompters and Faulconer’s soundtrack is ass outside of the top five. Nine year old Gohan sounding like a chain smoker doesn’t exactly sound good or complement his character either
i watched all final fights of arcs in both DBZ and Kai to compare... I do not like the OG DBZ dub and i think its terrible. the only person that sounded good was goku. Ppl in the comments have linked me several different versions of falcouner score final fight episodes and i dislike them all. OG DBZ w/ faulconer isnt for me and i think its terrible personally. And its not just my Opinion SeaRaxx said the samething for the most part, yet im the bad guy.
Ppl think i care about a score when i relly just watched DBZ to see why it was considered good, STORY WISE. As i kept watching ppl told me the manga was better even though faulconer is supposed to make me like DBZ even more

I won’t waste my time fighting you on it, the og with Bruce’s music is just objectively a better experience. Many of the scenes with the og lines and music are what made this show iconic, and Kai doesn’t hit anywhere close to that level. You saw how he reacted to the music immediately when he switched to the Bruce soundtrack. It just hits different.
And even more so than I expected myself; I love the soundtrack but wasn’t aware how dependent some of the most badass scenes were of the music. When F. trunks first arrives and turns ssj, that sountrack + those lines gives me goosebumps even today despite me seeing the scene 100 times. I thought the scene was just badass, but then I saw it in Kai, and *felt absolutely nothing.* I was shook, did not expect that but the scene was nothing without the combo of the original, the lines and music.
Kai is better for manga accuracy and less filler, but those things do not matter when casually watching the show. If I were to show this series to someone for the first time, bruce’s soundtrack and the og is 100% the way

Bruce's music is NOT objectively better. If anything, it ruined dragon ball in America. It's not even iconic when most of the world had the Latin dub or the Japanese dub which had the Japanese scores. When it comes to popularity in dragon ball, America like top 3 and it ain't number one or 2. The og lines are very much out of character and the music doesn't fit the scenes or characters at all and are pretty much disrespectful to Toriyama's work. The English VA's will tell you themselves that their work on kai is far better than what they originally did and it's true while keeping the Japanese/db super score (in which admittedly some of super score doesn't fit). I grew up watching both og and kai and when I watched kai after og, I couldn't help but laugh at the og due to how bad it was. It literally was like watching a more serious TFS.
Trunks' scene was not better than kai and NOT badass when you hear that scream. The music was just outright terrible. The voice acting was terrible. The lines was terrible. Kai, the music actually fit. It was mysterious and yet felt like something horrible was going to happen which is great considering its freeza we're talking about here and we're living his pov.
Kai is better as a 1 to 1 version for the manga. Those things do matter because you're basically saying the manga doesn't matter which it does in every way because the dub gets everything wrong and destroys lines, music, and even the characters whereas the Japanese is much better and misses some lines here and there while in kai, both versions are perfect and the music makes it far better than Bruce's. Bruce only has 2-3 good songs. Everything else is outright horrible. So yeah I recommend watching og dbz dub of you generally don't care about dragon ball
@@grydon6422literally all three of these paragraphs are pure nostalgia shaded slop. Faulconer’s music was literally designed around the idea that kids have short attention spans. Show me ONE real scene that doesn’t have music for more than five seconds. Not to mention that every Faulconer track outside of the top 5 are just random noises lol. Silence is not allowed in this dub because children don’t understand the significance of it.
Not only is the voice acting actually just worse (which the voice actors themselves will tell you is true), but to even further play into the idea that kids will stop paying attention without constant noise, every single possible inner monologue is filled with non-stop verbal vomit. This dub completely ignores the concept of “actions speak louder than words” because kids don’t know how loud actions can speak yet. The poorly done dub that you revere as a gift from god was literally made for kids and the voices behind both projects will tell you the same thing. This is all while ignoring how absolutely abysmal the original Z’s pacing is along with the abhorrent treatment of Goku’s character. The original Z dub is the epitome of TikTok attention span marketing with the music and dialogue while also having a story that is paced like molasses.
