Such a beautiful vessel, the good old Mariella. She must have been takeen good care of at Viking Line. She's 38 years old, but looks very well maintained. I even think she still looks modern, after all these years.

Having sailed on her sister ship when she operated with P&O on their Bilbao and Cherbourg routes, I remember how impressive she was. At the time (mid-90s), I'd managed to get permission from P&O for a bridge and engine room visit which was amazing. The view from her very tall bridge position was breathtaking coming into the Solent for the approach to Portsmouth - something I'll never forget. Still, even in 2023, these vessels are huge and lovely looking ships. Lovely to see some action from one of my favourite islands in the Mediterranean. My last trip from Corsica to the mainland were on SNCM's Esterel (now sadly broken up).

This whole ship exudes high quality. I remember so well when the public was allowed to go on a tour on board when she lay with the flagpole up at Stadsgårdkajen 1985. Just the sight of her gave me a huge wow effect. At that time she was the biggest ferry in the world.. Together with her 10 cm longer sister M/S Olympia and Siljas M/S Finlandia and M/S Silvia Regina they formed a quartet that was far, far ahead of its time .In addition, many of the survivors of the Estonia disaster are alive today thanks to this ship and its crew who worked on board that night in 1994 ,/ Adam

nostalgia for me cuz i went to corsica with my family in august every year and i didn't go in since 2021. We took corsica ferries too and we travelled all France in car. Same for Sardegna, it's so wonderful island. Thx for the videos 🥲

However, I chose to splurge a bit on the meal just for the sake of showcasing it in the video, ha ha 😉. After all, every once in a while, a little indulgence on holiday isn't too bad. I can understand with the length of time taken for each crossing, why there's just the one crossing a day in each direction. But still, its good that there is a regular ferry service and the vessels are well maintained and equipped. The staff do a real good job.👏🤝
Ex-Mariella. Easy to see her Swedish-Finnish ice class 1A Super by observing her propeller water. No need for that in the Mediterranean though:-) But we miss her in the Northern Baltic. Damn the Covid shit witch forced the Viking Line to sell her!!!
An interesting observation of the propeller water. 🧐Do you mean that there is visually less white, foamy water but deeper and maybe longer turbulence with the 1A Super ice class? I've only been on TallinkSilja and Viking Line ferries, so I really don't have a point of reference. 🤔
The prop wash, or the wake left by the propeller, can indeed vary based on the type of propeller and the ice class of the ship. The 1A Super ice class could lead to different turbulence patterns in the water. However, the differences might not be very noticeable unless you're specifically looking for them. The differences you're observing could be due to a variety of factors, including but not limited to the ship's load, and the water conditions.

I gotta say I much prefer BC Ferries when it comes to onloading and offloading - these European ferries are somewhat confusing to board at times with lots of backing up and circling around, etc.
