A good stove. the same burner design as 400 series. In my experience, after repeated uses with low flame simmer, the generator tends to clog up with carbon, and eventually fail to stay lit at low flame, or fail to vaporize liquip fuel. When this happens, the flame will turn orange and sooty. I remove the generator and blow torch it to burn out the carbon deposit, reinstall, and works good as new.
It's a common complaint that the 533 is bulky and heavy but I have a large zebra billy can it fits neatly into. A Single fill easily lasts me several days so no need to bring separate fuel bottles. I've read elsewhere that a filled stove equates to about two or three 450g gas cannisters. My local wild camping spot is littered with empties.
Good review . I saw in another review in the states that poor regulator control can be caused by over pumping the tank i think they recommended 20 pumps as stated in the instructions and don't fill the tank as you need a space above the fuel for the air . Just a thought before a valve removal starts. I ve had one of these stoves for around 20 years they get hot very quick but I've only actually used it a handful of times like you say they are quite heavy so have taken a gas stove in the pack. I like these coleman stoves they are really quite well made. Will be taking mine on an overnighter next week. Thanks for the content, Harnser Hoowt.
Just got my one today at car boot sale. The guy said he paid £60 originally. He asked for £30 but all I had was £19.50 and he said ok. It's in great condition hardly used. Tested it out works fine and very happy. I'm keeping it up My allotment to cook up there. I use a home made wood burner made out cans when hiking or bike ridding. Light and free faul.
I had got one of these for my birthday and I don't know what happened to it, it's grown legs and disappeared, walked off somehow... I cannot find it anywhere, finally broke down and bought another for myself for $60 from someone online... Love these stoves! Used my old one as a heater before (outside of course) when it was cold.
Great Stove. I use mine for Car Camping and it's fantastic. I use White Gas in mine and have never had a problem. Then again I pull the Generator Tube every six Months and soak clean it .
That's exactly what I also do. I even managed to use Coleman stoves inside the house without complaints about smell from my girlfriend. I use the Aspen 4 Alkylate fuel.
Good to know that I'm not the only one with poor simmering control on older stoves. I had a handful of Coleman Feather 442 stoves. A few of them only work the way you describe it. Only high output will last. The low setting dies out very soon. However I have one or 2 stoves that really have good flame control. You can feel it on the resistance of the red adjustment lever. When there is a certain resistance instead of moving almost freely it will give a stable simmering flame.
I used a stove like this for four or five years, and loved it. I switched to a Coleman canister stove only because I lost this stove, or had it stolen. I recently bought a Chinese knockoff, and it works as well, or better than the Coleman version. I also bought a Chinese canister stove that works well, too. But I have to admit, I now use an alcohol stove about half the time, and burn wood the other half.
Stupid question. My old 500 series had a larger on off valve. I just got one for Xmas, and was surprised the lack of a proper off setup. How do you turn it off other than the red generator control to off? That cannot be enough to keep the pressure or do you need to remove all pressure each time? The lack of a proper valve is a tad troubling ... that’s all. Cheers!
used this model for 20 years , down to minus 12, , never had a problem, other than new gen,, using colemans fuel reduces the need,,, when used 1 in 3 refills
I can only say that this works with mine if the pressure drops too much it goes out if you try to simmer but putting more pressure in even just a few pumps allows me to set the flame down low
Poor flame control is a big drawback of the Coleman 533. The 533 is inferior to all previous Coleman stoves because of this. The 533 burns too hot and has poor flame control making good cooking very difficult. IMO the 533 is a step backwards in stove technology. You have all the weight and bulkiness of a clunker stove, but you do not have the flame control or the efficiency. My suggestion is to look on ebay to get an older model Coleman single burner or look at a different brand altogether.

Do you think it would deep fry fish using a small 2 quart cast iron Dutch Oven? Thanks
@@TheWindGinProject yes. It's as hot as an electric stove burner.

What size is your Zebra Billy?
@@macmij It's the big one. 16cm I think.
Great tip from that Zebra billy can.

If you don’t mind answering, what do you use to soak the generator?
I use Alkalyte fuel in mine for a much cleaner burn.👍🏾

Great job making this video. I just got one.
I just bought one in UK from basecamp lanterns in Peterborough. £40.

What Chinese knockoff do you use? One of the BRS ones? I've noticed them but haven't got one

What is the manufacture date of your stove?
Hola desde buenos Aires Argentina. Quisiera saber que tipo de combustible lleva o funciona ... el Español por favor gracias saludos
dual fuel Benzina , gasolina blanca y kerosene yo tengo una parecida
Great video! Have you had the chance to use it in cold weather? If so, how well did it work?
Hi
I,m a fairish weather camper so haven't used it in real cold weather sorry
used this model for 20 years , down to minus 12, , never had a problem, other than new gen,, using colemans fuel reduces the need,,, when used 1 in 3 refills
I've used mine in -30C weather and works great. Propane at that temp doesn't heat up well. I'm sold on the Coleman white gas stoves and lanterns.
Better than gas in cold weather
Hello.
Do you have any tips on getting the flame down extremely low without going out?
the only thing that helps is keeping the pressure up hope that helps
that's not true, quite the opposite, if you pump it too much, you cannot get a low simmer flame .. its a common user error .
I can only say that this works with mine if the pressure drops too much it goes out if you try to simmer but putting more pressure in even just a few pumps allows me to set the flame down low
Mine always worked best with high pressure, and I never had trouble getting a low simmer flame when I pumped the stove as much as I could.

Do they run on petrol mate?
Yes they do but it will need to be cleaned more often
Anyone know a good source for generators?
Amazon has them.
How do renew the pump diaphragm/seal?
Just buy a new pump assembly, USD $7.00 locally here.
