I always write my comments while I'm watching a video, because otherwise I forget half of what I wanted to say. Unfortunately I was so curious about what other videos you have that I clicked over to your home page before hitting the "comment" button and lost everything I wrote. What I do remember is that I had to pause four times to stare into space over the simple brilliance of some of your tips, such as drawing all the lines on the batting before doing any stitching, and using a crochet hook for popping out the corners (looks like it does a much better job than using a chopstick!). Your tutorial is excellent, with everything clearly shown and explained; and I love the fabrics you used. I've saved this video to my "non quilt sewing projects" playlist for future use. Thank you for posting it!
Thank you so much. I’m so happy that you found our little corner of RUclips. I love tips and tricks so I try to include anything that works for me and things didn’t quite work. I’ve lost many long comments too. Thank you for coming back and trying again.
I save my batting, I use it for stuffing in other projects... if for a pillow I cut it into small straps, it makes lovely soft pillows. I also used it for stuffing Christmas ornaments, it pies up fast when you're doing these ice cream koozies
I forgot to comment the first time I watched this video. I love ice cream, sherbet, and sorbet. Vanilla, chocolate, butter pecan, salted caramel, chocolate with marshmallow are my favorite ice creams. For sherbets and sorbets, I love most of the fruit flavors.
I love ocffee ice cream. My dad was an career ice cream man (maker) and it ws a staple in our home always. It not only makes us happy when we enjoy it but it also stirs wonderful memories.Thank you Robin for this tutorial.
Favorite ice cream….hard to pick just one….pistachio, black raspberry, cheesecake .. oh the list could go on and on! Maybe asking what I didn’t like would be shorter!!! 🤪 hahaha
All those lines would make a nice quilting pattern for a block. You could take and leave a turning spot in one of the darts. I may not be reversible but may make it easier for some that worry sewing it closed and getting a good look.
Hi Robin, I just made an icecream cozy with a pocket for a wet wipe & did a vertical seam to create a narrow pocket for a spoon. It turned out so stinking cute & it's still reversible. Great gift adding the pockets for wipe & spoon. 🥄 Thanks for seeing your method!
That brand in the mint chocolate chip is my favorite ice cream! Yumm! Love this idea. Now if I can only get motivated to make zets of all your ideas as gifts.
You can zig zag that batting together for mug rugs or small areas. I honestly never use to save little pieces that much, but with everything costing more, I do now. And some of it because I just retired and my salary is lower also. 😊
I love to frankenpiece my batting. I use the smaller strips for fabric postcards. Sometimes if I already a small bin full of scraps I’ll toss the smaller pieces.
My fav is white choc inner & outer Magnum. From a specialist shop I love pecan. In a tub I love Cornish cream. I was thinking; these cozy's could be used for small containers if the points were sewn down. I finally got to my sewing yesterday and finished my Ukraine wall hanging. Today I'm hand sewing the back of the binding. I had to stop whilst watching this video so I didn't make my stitches too big 😁 Have a great weekend, whatever you're doing 🤔
This is a wonderful idea, I don't eat icecream myself, or anything ice cold, I get what we call brain freeze haha An excellent gift for my brother who eats it by the tub though. Man gifts are hard to come by besides the usual....huge love Robin x
oh and my favorite ice cream is nice cream: frozen bananas in a blender, oat milk, sunflower butter, cocoa powder, and sometimes i use some pea protein powder. you can also add honey or maple syrup. It usually is too runny, so i make it into a frosty.
Hi Robin, I am amazed what you're getting done while loosing your sew-jo. 😱 The fabric postcards are adorable and the red with the diagonal pinwheel strip is and will be a real all-time favourite for me. Seems that I'll need to start sewing postcards in future as well. Being busy with our house, so I'm not watching and commenting that much recently. 😔 Sending virtual hugs overseas instead 😉 Regards from Germany Stephanie
Hi Stephanie. Our houses can take up a lot of our time. Once it’s all settled then you’ll be able to have a little crafting fun again. I’m glad you were able to pop in and say hi
What is the batting you use? Mine looks way more bulky than yours. It was so fiddly sewing together and topstitching. I'm a house of 1 and so I'm set - not sure if I'll make more. I might try only 1 layer of batting. It's super cute though!
I think if my batting were thicker I’d go with just one layer. Since it’s just for ice cream the batting doesn’t need to protect your hands from a hot pan. Just cold ice cream. I generally use Warm & White and Warm & Natural. In this video I may have used Quilter’s Dream cotton batting that was given to me from a friend.
Robin, I was over on Marie's Scrappy Creations YT channel, and she mentioned you for your many good ideas!!!! So I came on over here to check in and see what you are doing! I love the idea of making ice cream cozies! My favorite ice cream is salted caramel!!!! I hope it's okay that I mention Marie's Scrappy Creations YT channel. She is just 11 subs away from 2000 subscribers! If you haven't checked her channel out, go on over and consider subscribing!!!!!
Hi Elaine and welcome to our little community. Yes, it’s okay to mention Marie’s channel. She’s been part of our community here for awhile and I enjoy her videos.
Have you searched for a video for a beer bottle cozy? In the past I’ve used a store bought cozy to create a pattern. I cut open the cozy and used the pieces as a pattern. Good luck.
Robin, I know that to be microwave safe, a bowl cozie has to be 100% cotton (fabric, thread, & batting), but my question is: Is 100% "Pima" cotton thread microwavable? I have several spools of this and cannot find out what "Pima" means. Is it just cotton or is it a "coated" cotton thread?
I’m not an expert so please take my answer at face value and try a couple more searches. But if you thread says it’s 100% cotton then I’d think it’s safe to use in bowl cozies etc. I I searched Pima cotton and found that Pima cotton is a luxury cotton that is used in some of the nicer softer sheets. It’s a longer fiber that is very sturdy and tends to last a long time. What I found was mostly about Pima cotton sheets. It sounds like it’s just a sturdier more expensive form of cotton. If I’m making something that might go into the microwave I’m going to be extra extra cautious. If I’m not sure of the content then I probably wouldn’t use It. Although, if you have a local quilt shop you could bring a spool of your thread there and ask their opinion. Then you can make an educated decision about whether or not you’re comfortable using the Pima thread.
Some say vanilla is boring but I disagree. If it’s a quality vanilla ice cream then it’s full of flavor. Plus it’s a good base to add things too. Like caramel and extra caramel 😉
Why do ladies talk to us in these tutorials like we've never seen or used a sewing machine. Frankly I find it annoying and condescending. Sorry but it does!
I totally understand your issue. On my channel I want to make sure that if this is the first project that a new sewer makes that they have all of the information that they need to make It a successful project. I don’t want anyone to walk away from sewing because they got stuck and frustrated.

You are so creative Robin. Great tutorial! Now I want strawberry cheesecake ice cream. Yum!
Thanks Sonnie. Yum. I don’t eat ice cream very often but It is fun to try different flavors. You can’t miss with a cheesecake ice cream.

Great tutorial!

My go to ice cream is chocolate. I have used Steam A Seam tape in the seam opening on my soup cozy and pins before top stitching.
I’ve grown to love Steam a Seam tape.
I have been meaning to make some of these. Great video, thank you 😊
Thank you.

Sshhhh. Don’t ruin my surprise video 😉. We do tend to think alike when crafting.
I never realized how much thread it saves to do chain piecing until I made a bunch of bowl coozies for Christmas gifts!!
Several years ago I watched a video where they showed that they wasted a spool of thread by not chain piecing. I was shocked.
This is a wonderful idea, I don't eat icecream myself, or anything ice cold, I get what we call brain freeze haha An excellent gift for my brother who eats it by the tub though. Man gifts are hard to come by besides the usual....huge love Robin x
Thanks Jo. It is very hard to find things to make for the guys in our lives. Anything related to food is usually a hit 😉
BUTTER PECAN, BUTTER BOURON, PITASHIO :) Will have to do this for Mom, always eating pints of ice cream.
:)
This might be more popular for Christmas than the bowl cozies. 😉
Thanks Roy 🦩

I do enjoy nice cream. I wish I could say the same about oat milk. Maybe I just need to get used to It. 🤷♀️

The dart measurements are 3” down and 5” across. You can find those numbers at the 4 minute mark if you need to refer to them later.
