    Before Manchester Orchestra’s headlining Sunday night show at the prestigious Ryman Auditorium, PG’s Chris Kies swooped in to hang with guitarist Robert McDowell who showed off his meat-and-potatoes setup (and guitarist/vocalist Andy Hull’s gear), while bassist Andy Prince explained his move towards an all-tube amp sound that pushed him away from low-end-sucking pedals.
    Guitarist Robert McDowell’s main squeeze for the last few years has been the “Sheriff”-a Fender ’72 Telecaster Deluxe reissue. It originally belonged to bandmate Andy Hull, but McDowell really gravitated towards it at the same time Hull was falling out of love with it. Both Robert and Andy use Ernie Ball Power Slinky .011-.048 strings.
    At first glance, Andy Hull’s longtime No. 1 (a Fender Telecaster) has nothing going on in it, but it does have a single Seymour Duncan Little ’59 Tele bridge pickup. All the other wiring, switches, and pots have been removed so the signal is as pure as possible. And for what it’s worth, Hull has said that the surgery has resulted in making the Tele 25 percent louder.
    Bassist Andy Prince’s longtime go-to is this custom-built P that centers around a lighter body from the ’80s and ’50s-style P neck. The vibrant red color and anodized-gold pickguard are a nod to his grandfather’s favorite instrument. The 4-string is loaded with a set of Seymour Duncan Basslines SPB-3 Quarter Pound P pickups.

    So awesome to see OBNE pedals on their boards!!! I just found out about them a few months ago and I absolutely love their pedals!! I have been a Manchester Orchestra fan since Mean Everything to Nothing and haven't looked back. They're such an amazing band and they constantly reinvent themselves on every album, but still maintain their own sound. I love these dudes! Keep up the great work and the great interviews! Love this channel.

    I couldn't keep Gibsons in tune either until I put Kluson locking tuners on my Junior. The 4th G string was always the worst.

      TheBigGuppy my SG has the same issue with the G string. It’s a real pain.

    My Jazzmaster is much more stable than any guitar I’ve ever played. Especially with a Mastery Bridge. I had mine put away in a case for 3 months, perfectly in tune when I pulled it out.

    • @DaveDexterMusic
      @DaveDexterMusic 5 лет назад +3

      Is it stable in playing, though? I have guitars stayed in tune in cases or on the wall unplayed for longer than that but which sag in ten minutes of subsequent playing.

    • @chairmanJackie
      @chairmanJackie 5 лет назад +1

      Same. Mine's a CIJ and even before i got the Mastery gear it maintained intonation really well. It only goes out of tune after maybe some excessive vibrato bar usage. My SG always crapped out tho like Roberts.

      @mh-oh8kf 5 лет назад +1

      Same here, with a mastery bridge I can do just about anything with my JM and it’s by far the most stable guitar I own. Stays in tune better then my tele which surprises me.

    • @paulitik7
      @paulitik7 5 лет назад

      DaveDexterMusic yeah, even with a lot of vibrato action. It stays in tune better than any guitar I've owned.

    • @2high2die
      @2high2die Год назад

      Taking the whammy off helps with that. That assembly effects both the bridge and saddle and has to be "tuned" during set-up. Otherwise a JM is like playing scrambled eggs. Groovy scrambled eggs.

    I got lucky with my 65 reissue jazzmaster. It stays in tune better than any other guitars that I own, whether it’s sitting out, in a case, traveling, or left unplayed for a month. It has vintage tuners and a mastery bridge. I also have a jazzmaster with locking tuners and a mastery bridge, but the 65 reissue is even a bit more stable than that one.
