I mean, by that logic, no multi-player games would work. There's a way but Yannick is a solo dev at this point and a lot would probably need to change.
It could probably be added as just an option for a lobby with a big warning label attached that things break with high latency. For it to be truly implemented with the usual tricks we´d first need consistent physics. Though you "can" use the usual tricks without, it just would be a very janky setup and really should only be implemented by someone dedicating lots of time to it. The janky idea would be to assume that your own inputs will stay the same, same for all the other players and just calculate your side a second or so ahead and send that probable location data to everyone. Then if you do actually do an input you just have to recalculate everything and hopefully update people early enough that they don´t notice any big teleports. In any case, setting that up would be an incredible amount of work that could just be poured into anything else when adding a toggle with a warning label would probably be simple enough and work for most people under 100ms delay... maybe 50ms (3/60 fps) to be close enough to ideal that it's good enough even at higher speeds?
@@lilstubthumb You know not all games are the same right? that is an INCREDIBLE generalisation there. The methods that needs to be used for a online racing game with collisions is FAR FAR different than what is needed for say and FPS, which is again far different from an RTS. And racing games are probably one of the harder ones to do it with, because they require high speed, and extreme precision at the same time. If you look around you will find there are VERY few online with collision racing games. And most of those that exists are silly stuff like Mario Cart, that doesn't take itself serious (which also being made by Nintendo, for Nintendo hardware only, helps in that regard too). And yeah, then there is as you said the this is a solo developer. So yes it might be TECHNICALLY possible, but the amount of time, effort and/or money, would be ungodly, to the point where it is very reasonable to say that "it wouldn't work"
This was just great. I'm so happy for you all, that from playing a game, to meet the dev and find a friend to mess around with. This was hilarious. Thanks for this!
Maybe you could invite Kosmo over for a splitscreen map? A real coop map would be so cool. One where you take different paths and work together to be able to reach the finish.
More split-screen would be fun. You can mimic local-multiplayer by using something like Parsec, if needed. Steam itself also has a feature for that (Remote Play), though the latency might be higher on that one.
I'm so thankful Yannic made this game playable on steam so I can split screen using steams Remote Play. You guys should definitely do more split screen.
A good way to end a splitscreen race could be to use the "trackmania loop" that kAN likes so much. That would give the second player a chance to take out the first player. Or the first player can try to slow down to take the corner flat, if the second player is too far back to catch up.
12:31 you can see the wheel that Yannic mentions in the previous round thought it was pretty funny and neat that the camera managed to clip in there after he said that.
I understand that this suggestion might be too late to matter, but I have an idea for dealing with the situations where the person with fewer points cannot possibly win: Continue setting a winning point threshold (e.g., the first to 100 points wins), but with the added rule that if you reach the threshold score by losing a race, the game enters Overtime. During Overtime, the first player to win a race while they have a point-lead, wins.
the problem is that the winning player gets +10 and the player in second place gets +8, that means a lot of the points don't really matter that much (ex: if one of them won every game, the point difference would only be 20%) The actual important thing is the score differential, so instead remove the unnecessary points and have them scale with the number of players, so in this case first and second place are +2 and +0, while the points when there are 4 people would be +6, +4, +2 and +0
@@Pystro no it just means they have to win a race once they hit the required score. so if they are 95-34 with 100 being the win, if they win the next race they will cross the threshold and win the race. However if they continue to lose and the score becomes, 155-94 and the trailing player wins the race, he would of managed the clutch. (Note I didn't put math into the numbers, just representative)
@@thefirstoffence9048 I was talking about the phase between the player acquiring an unbeatable lead and them actually crossing the threshold. Say the first 6 matches all go one way and lead to a score of 60:48. 5 more losses would still get player 1 to the 100 point threshold, while player 2 with 5 wins gets only to 98. With a simple "first to reach 100" rule, player 1 can just put down the controller at that point - or usually both players would agree to declare player 1 the winner. With the "You need 100 points and only win once you've won with 100 points" rule, the leading player still can put down the controller for 4 rounds, and only has to resume playing when he's at or above 90 points. (These 4 rounds is what I was talking about.) I.e. it does solve the problem of the game actually ending early, but there might still be no excitement for so long that you wish it was over.
Don't kAN and Kosmo live relatively close to each other. He has been at his house for the basement RC drift track videos in the past. They should just spend a day playing a whole bunch of split screen runs, split them up and have a couple months of weekly split screen content.
kan you should make a brand new scrapmechanic logic seares. its ben a few years since i fond your channel and its stayed just what i expected from you.
Ok, I am not sure weather this would work or not, but if you can make a map that has a speedcheck that you can only make by drafting, that would be neat.
As much as the collisions would be untenable with online latency, would it perhaps be feasible to do small multiplayer lobbies like this which at least allowed drafting? Would be really weird with collision disabled, as you could draft right through other racers. LOL
I'm glad to see you still rolling! Even tho I don't watch you that much anymore, it always puts a smile on my face when youtubers like you keep going and making great content. It hurts me when some just stop making videos. Glad you haven't taken a worse path than the others.
we really really need a video of you and cosmo and yannic just watching a video on netherlands :P my town was freed by canadian hero leo major in ww2 there is some cool history there!
Lol fair enough. I'm Canadian so red white and blue is synonymous with America. It's just a little strange for me that that isn't the first thing people think of.
I love how much joy Yannic still gets off his own game. Some solo developers get burned out after having to test everything over and over.
He's got bros to back him up, and also test the cheesability of his engine mechanics lol
kAN with the "KONING" license plate :D :D
I really think that there should be an option for this mode online
As was said in the video, it just wouldn't work, due to latency

zeipkist split screen works shockingly well over steam remoteplay
woot woot, more zeepkist. iv been missing my zeep fix, what with dapper being away an all
This was just great. I'm so happy for you all, that from playing a game, to meet the dev and find a friend to mess around with. This was hilarious. Thanks for this!

but kosmo would release the video in 12 years after filming it
Oh man, I don't think I've ever heard Yannic so excited or belly laugh. That's so awesome!!
Yannic: The car colours were inspired by the Dutch flag.
Car: Has a Peugeot logo on the front.
Seems legit. 😆
I think its the logo of the royal dutch family
The lion is part of the crest
Yannic, suggestion... Make the train transparent when boarding.
That way you can see where the stop is.
Nice track kAN! GGs to you both.
Maybe a transparency checkpoint for trains so it’s controllable by the map maker

The latency is very high but not unplay-able. Plus, Kan's Early ice sled track is perfect for it.
15:22 +100 points for making family guy death pose
They sound like brothers and I love it
I was expecting something with a speed check that only worked if you had draft speed.
I was expecting another weird logic setup.
This is the most excitable zeepkist ive seen. The competition that comes of playing right next to a person is something else entirely.
I'm so thankful Yannic made this game playable on steam so I can split screen using steams Remote Play. You guys should definitely do more split screen.
Classic Nascar Boop out of the way then pass technique. Love to see that

5:28 this guy belongs in wreckfest! 😂😂
One hell of a pit maneuver
It would be really cool if the trains worked like platform saddles in ARK where you can build structures on them that move with the platforms.
You two have the best energy, it's great to watch!
12:31 you can see the wheel that Yannic mentions in the previous round thought it was pretty funny and neat that the camera managed to clip in there after he said that.

you guys really do have big brother/younger brother vibes lol
Fun useless fact. The Dutch flag was the first tri-colour flag in the world. also the Dutch national anthem is the oldest national anthem
5:27 the PITT was textbook
6:28 Unique's laugh there is infectious...
also... 😢Kosmo...
First time seeing split screen, it's so weird when I'm used to public lobbies, but it looks so fun too!
Don't kAN and Kosmo live relatively close to each other. He has been at his house for the basement RC drift track videos in the past. They should just spend a day playing a whole bunch of split screen runs, split them up and have a couple months of weekly split screen content.
I think they’re an hour or two away from each other. Not unreasonable, but probably won’t be common.
@kAN So did Yannic ever notice the sign for the train station was upside down?. 😆
Making good use of the multiplayer mechanics. I like it.
Firmly draft it with your hands!
I'm glad you guys had such a great time!
kan you should make a brand new scrapmechanic logic seares. its ben a few years since i fond your channel and its stayed just what i expected from you.
More zeepkist with Dapper!!!
Absolutely need the gang together for split screen madness lol
absolutely enjoy these videos :D
omg its modding man
4:05 I heard this to the tune of the Beatles' "Here Comes the Sun."
hahaha that desk slam XD
Now I want to see you two play wreckfrest
should make a hidden check point map where you HAVE to fall off the map in some way to get the final check point.
kAN Gaming, amazing video you deserve more subscribers
4:50 I don't know what that was, but it was awesome
Ok, I am not sure weather this would work or not, but if you can make a map that has a speedcheck that you can only make by drafting, that would be neat.
I only noticed at the very very end that the Centraal Station sign is upside down haha
I wish Yannic would make a gamemode where you could have collision and drafting online, it'd totally be fair if it was only up 4 or maybe 6 players
I think that you should get the crew together for this
Drafting? I thought it was slipstreaming.
Same thing, different name for it.
Drafting is like a nascar name for slipstreaming
I like trains. We know everyone should by now 😂
Awesome!
If you are avoiding draft would that make you a draft dodger?
6:14 Rubbing is racing
When are you going to feature Yannic on Noob vs Pro for Trailmaker or Scrap Mechanic?
The Ross Chastain line!
As much as the collisions would be untenable with online latency, would it perhaps be feasible to do small multiplayer lobbies like this which at least allowed drafting? Would be really weird with collision disabled, as you could draft right through other racers. LOL
This video should be titled “how to get drafting nerfed”
Bru this is fun
shake and bake
need to test pump drafting
drafting abuse never caused any shenanigans in f1 Kappa
Who wins if the players drive through different Checkpoints and then die?
It's just the checkpoint count. This is for the same reason that splits don't always mean anything if there are multiple routes on a map.
@@R.B. yeah that makes sense
Man I'd lave for Unique to be able to get collisions to work for multiplayer
This is cool
You guys always can play split screen with Parsec it doesnt have too much latency. Didnt try on zeepkist btw
Soo when is one of you two going to move to the other's country so this can become a regular thing?
Also flag of the United States of America is Red, White and Blue.
I'm glad to see you still rolling! Even tho I don't watch you that much anymore, it always puts a smile on my face when youtubers like you keep going and making great content. It hurts me when some just stop making videos. Glad you haven't taken a worse path than the others.
Epic 😂😂😂
Splitscreen thursday when?
we really really need a video of you and cosmo and yannic just watching a video on netherlands :P my town was freed by canadian hero leo major in ww2 there is some cool history there!
It's a gaming channel, not a reaction or history channel.
@@Bama_Boy Eh it's a commentary channel, slap the convo over gameplay your good.
more split-screen !
Is it a kAN map if no one is in chat saying this is pain..?
I think kAN felt the pain here.
Isn't the French flag blue and white and red? Yes, the most popular flag with red white and blue 😂
Its a European game though. So the most popular (America) wouldn't make sense.
Lol fair enough. I'm Canadian so red white and blue is synonymous with America. It's just a little strange for me that that isn't the first thing people think of.
