It's quite refreshing, in our youth-obsessed culture, to hear a discussion of the benefits of aging. I have male friends in their 70s and 80s, and these gentlemen are the most self-assured, content-with-themselves people I know. By contrast, many 20-somethings appear to be eternally anxious, unsure of themselves, and sadly, almost lost to the world.

Thanks, I'm 56 and just starting to figure out that I am mortal! I appreciate the time I have, try not to dwell on my faults too much, and when I can I try to pass on some of the extensive and quirky knowledge that I have amassed. I have to agree that not giving a damn is a brilliant aspect of having grey whiskers. Something I've noticed, I will talk to anybody. Conversing with strangers, telling a story, puts a lasting smile on my face.

My life changed the day I decided to dress better. I was a late developer in the dressing well department. I was in my early 40s. Little did I know by dressing in a certain way would transform my world. I gained confidence and as a result I become more content. Youth is overrated today. We gain knowledge and a sense of well being which eluded us in our youth. Great video Ash.

This is without a doubt one of your best videos yet. As a 65 year old I agree wholeheartedly with everything you said. Every day is a gift, every breath we take is a gift, every heartbeat precious. So many wonderful people don’t get these gifts that we have, they were cut short And never got a chance to grow older. Well done my friend.

My friend, you have done many great videos, but this one is special to me. I love your message and the way that you deliver it. I swear, if I ever got across the big pond I would have to find a way to meet and thank you face to face. I turned 59 this week and I have thought about my most recent "mid-life crisis" and it is that I don't give a damn. I will wear what I want and I won't worry about what others may think. I will distinguish myself from others and strive for self improvement. Thank you.

Wise words indeed Ash, and because you’ve made those points I’m going to be a bit more frivolous.
    1. Making money when I was younger enabled me to retire early, so, at 62 I am free to be as eccentric as I like. I dress like a time traveller from the 1940s and enjoy conversations and doffing my hat to passers by.
    2. Taking my dog on long strolls by the rugged north east coast.
    3. Entertaining my beautiful wife and her charming lady friends.
    4. Being much less angry than I used to be. When I look back back I realise what a Tartar I was!
    5. Being able to do 22 pull-ups and unashamedly smirking when I beat a young lad when challenged to do so.
(I am probably more of a bounder than a chap, but definitely not a cad!)

It's interesting when you talk about attire in the workplace. A colleague and I were recalling when the humble neck tie fell out of fashion in the office. So we have started to fasten that top button and wear a neck tie. The effect was almost instant. The number of people who have noticed and complemented on how smart we look. More importantly it makes me stand out and look more professional.

A positive for me is that I can wear "old man's watches" like small gold dress watches. I have a Seiko 'Tank" and a Omega DeVille 33mm and nobody bats an eye when I wear them. A negative is definately that I need more time to recover from sports injuries. (I'm 43 by the way)

Hello sir, thank you for making another informative and enlightening video. Your work and the chap's guide helped me quite a bit to find my place in the 21st century as a young person. I am 21 years old and I still have a long way to go in this life. As I am grateful for my parents for giving me the enormous opportunities and sacrifices they have, I often found my own ways to teach myself and get better as a person growing up in our modern age. When I watch your videos it often feels like I am receiving fatherly advices that I have not yet received, and for that thank you very much. I wish you and your family much health and prosperity, looking forward for your next videos.

Hey Ash, lots to think and reflect about life. I have two kids in university. I want them to have better opportunities and for them to make better choices than I did. I don’t see it as a sacrifice but as my love for my kids. I don’t miss going on holidays or buying a new vehicle or shop for new clothes or jewelry.
I volunteer as a volleyball and football (soccer) coach. I find this extremely rewarding. I’m looking forward my retirement in a few years. At work I try to help and advice my young colleagues. Some pay attention some don’t. I try to pass and share my knowledge with the younger crowd. Thank you for the great advice. Looking forward more videos.

Hi Ash, I fully agree with ALL your aspects on getting older, I myself just started my journey as a senior at an age of 65 but I still enjoy driving my 200 hp motorcycle 🙂. You are still a “young” person in my opinion and you have many years ahead, so please continue to enjoy your life together your family and friends, your watches and other aspects of your life (as I do), but mostly continue to be young in the mind, which I personally find most important. Regards from Sweden….

What a great ideology sir. I always live my life with little regard to the number of my age. I am actually fitter and healthier now, than I was 10-years ago - so I press ahead with optimism and the quiet advantage of life experience. My regards to beautiful Sweden sir - I visited about 4-years ago, a magnificent place (stayed in Gotland).

I don't spend much on cars or holidays but I like to feel comfortable in what I'm wearing everyday and have functional clothing which is smart casual. I dress for my self in a process which started twenty years ago. I think though I'm at a stage where I have enough. I've been cycling with people who are ex military and you can't fault their disipline. I like Barbour Loake and Viyella shirts.

Ash. I'm 63 and I must say you really nailed it. I think and do everything you said. One in particular I will challenge my boss when I see he is wrong. And the acknowledgment of the ones who gave their lives for our freedom. And advice the the young people to day need to understand the most is you have to work for what you want. You won't appreciate things unless you work for them. Cheers Ron.

Great video, Ash. And, my favorite so far. It is incredible how similar our lives are. I too, am 51. I served 8 years in the military (U.S.), 2 combat tours. And when I was young drank as much as I could--because I was young. Back then, one of the senior NCOs in my unit said to me, "If you have your health, you have everything." Little did I know how true that was.
The things that are important to me now are: health, family, friends, positive life experiences, knowledge and a good book. And, I agree that I care less and less about what other people think.

I think many of your points are related, as I find myself 'dressing authentically' both to be an example to my son to avoid conformity, and as a form of self expression.
