Hi thanks for reply mate glad u ok yes if u can please react to the cure the kiss live in berlin its amazing tho heavier .
i only say: dark room, good joint, very good hifi and i promise, you will fly through a forest...^^
You willl love their dark thrilogy early 80’s albums: Seventeen Seconds, Faith and Pornography. Will you concider doing more The Cure reactions?
Well done on finding The Cure. Achievement unlocked.
Melancholy. Mood music. You can literally find Cure music for all your moods! They are my favorite. You are on an atmospheric journey with the Cure.
Exactly what I was going to say... A soundtrack to life!
It was a GIFT to be a teen in the 1980’s.
Best times ever. And I personelly think growing up in the Netherlands the time with the most freedom we ever had.
A Forest is absolutely *amazing* live. I really love the album version, but it's one of those songs that live just.... it's just so much MORE of itself. Gorgeousness. I'm glad you're checking out The Cure. They range from dark ambient goth to post-punk to bubble gum pop to rock and genre mixes galore over 40 years of work... and their concerts aren't 45 minutes. I've been to 2 that were around 3 hrs. I hope here on channel and in private life you dig in and explore, I'm sure you'll find a lot of songs you like!
I totally agree. Worth listening to a German Goth/Shoegaze band called Seasurfer, particularly a song on You Tube (the version with the lyrics) called "Dragon Song". Also "Stay" is a superb track.
The Cure have 30+ hits: Lovesong, Just Like Heaven, Lullaby, Burn, Close To Me...
Been a Cure fan since the mid 80s.
A Forest has ALWAYS been my fav.
I’m from the UK & spend my 20’s in the 80’s this music we called indi music in those days it was the best so many groups like this best era ever ❤️❤️❤️
Started listening to them in 1984. Still one of my top favorite bands. I just saw them May 2023. Amazing performance!
You would love Charlotte Sometimes! I saw them live last year front rows and to hear him sing ing that song was epic! It was all epic. I was older so I could afford to be in the front with my brother. If they tour again go!! You will not be disappointed! Three and a half hours standing . Singing and dancing, bought all shirtsand hoodie and the poster for salt lake is quite amazing as well. They all are. 35 years a fan ! It not a phase mom!! ❤
The cure is the sound of my youth.❤
I’d never seen Robert Smith without makeup! So many great songs. "Close to Me", "In Between Days,""Let’s Go to Bed," and my favorite creation of theirs, "Just Like Heaven" are all worthy of your time.
I lived in Woodford, Essex near Epping forest when the Cure brought this tune out and you could find magic mushrooms there and wow, synchronicity!
I think he gets it!!
My god.....this has always been one of my favorite Cure songs. I tend to ramble on as well but I actually have no words at the moment. LOL
Glad you enjoyed this early Cure track. There are so many other great tracks to listen to, but you should definitely check out Play For Today, The Hanging Garden, Close To Me, Plainsong, Lullaby, Disintegration... the list goes on.
but the older ones are the best...
The Cure are legends for a reason. I've grown up with them in the 1980s and still regard them as one of my top 3 favorite bands of all time today.
It would be very difficult to name my favorite Cure songs but A Forest is definitely in my top 3 if not number 1. There's just something so unsettling and about it because it takes you some place that is warm and comfortable but foreboding at the same time.
That instrumental ending is my favourite part of this song, wow indeed 🖤
The bass is beautiful. I've never seen Robert Smith without his makeup on. Good that I can recognize his voice or I wouldn't know it was him I was looking at.
OMG. Honestly anything by the cure is great.
In between days for 1.
Friday im in love. Sooo many great tunes.
I'm glad you enjoyed! I ABSOLUTELY loved this. Right up my alley. I grew up on the cures "kids" if you might call them that. So I'm totally down for more. I know the Friday song tho, from the radio lol it's great
@L33Reacts The Smiths is another wormhole for you to go down.
Such an awesome band.
10:15 Saturday Night, Lullaby, and Pictures of You are ones I think you’d love.
The Mixed Up album has a cool extended version of The Forest which I’ve come to prefer over the version here. Close To Me and Never Enough off that same album are great. And Hot Hot Hot.
Inbetween Days miiiight be my favorite Cure song. It’s difficult to pick a fav.
5 squaddies in a golf gti driving home from germany to the uk with this track on repeat for the whole time yes and i still love this track :)
A classic! Enjoy it brother 🖤🖤🖤
bro this was so great... i have heard such good things about them for years but never listened... i feel silly. this is my shit. haha
So this is my Favorite Cure song. All though "Give Me It" is something you probably haven't heard on the radio is a beast of sound! Since you asked, what you really need to do is look up any and All their 2019 live concerts on RUclips because all those concerts were "practice" for the 40th Anniversary concert and they are phenomenal. I have liked The Cure since a kid in the late 70's, but since 2012 when Reeves Gabrels became permanent, this lineup is my absolute favorite and thus became my Absolute favorite band, and definitely the best band live for their age hands down, as they have not really wavered their timing and energy like so many bands have since their youthful beginnings and slowed the songs down, yet have matured so much in their playing. They were never considered a "new wave" band even in my day. The Cars were my Fav band growing up and they were new wave. The Cure is Goth, you were right to pick up on the drab and dreariness in this song, however they are a full spectrum band as well that radio has Never fully shown off. I liked the radio stuff don't get me wrong but that's not even scratching the surface. Unless one owned their albums, you really had no idea the scope of their work. Just fyi, since you say you're new to them, Robert at one point was the guitarist for Siouxsie and the Banshees and helped/played for many other goth/punk bands. Reeves is literally one of the world's best guitar players, playing in Tin Machine with Bowie, as well as his own works and countless other groups. Rodger O'Donnell the keyboardist also has helped/played for more bands than you can shake a stick at, the biggest being Psychedelic Furs, Thompson Twins and Berlin. The drummer in this video is Lol Tolhurst, he was replaced by Jason Cooper in 92'. Some people give Jason a bad rap, still, but they are obviously Not actually drummers, or just think flashy drumming is where it's at, they are morons. Jason is as solid as they come and mimics Lol's notes almost to a tee but bringing more energy and drive, and honestly at this point is better than Lol ever was. Then there's Simon Gallup on bass, The Cure are a highly bass driven band and Simon is Simon, absolutely brilliant. Back to Robert, such an underrated guitarist, his playing ability is actually phenomenal and then add the harmonics between his and Reeves playing in some of the songs, there are nuances that are out of this world. No I don't like them much as you can tell.🤣🤣 I do have the unique perspective of being a very well seasoned drummer both live and studio, as well as a bit of sound engineering, so I do know a tiny bit of what I'm talking about. Welcome to your journey of The Cure, I think you will be pleasantly pleased in what you find!☺️
Actually, Andy Anderson replaced Lol in 1983, then Boris Williams drummed 1985-1994 and Jason Cooper since 1995 until now
And I absolutely agree about Jason, people who are not drummers usually hate him, but for instance my band’s drummer (a great one, real pro) says Jason’s awesome and it’s difficult to say who’s better - Jason or Boris
Hey bro thank you for all the info! This was great. The cure hooked me instantly lol the mood and the beat were so sick. I can't wait to hear more!
I borrowed a boyfriend's bass in the mid '90s (in my early/mid 20s) and this was one of the songs I tried to play by ear. Seeing this video thrills me because I was right! I've been a Cure fan since the early '80s. I even ready Camus' The Stranger because of them.
Congratulations on being Cured.
This song was originally entitled "At night", with different lyrics. Later on "At night" became a song of its own the way it appears on their 1980 album. The drums on this song was recorded but used in reverse.
theres a great version of the original , live from Paris 1979 .. theres a line "speed or sleep" says it all found it ... ruclips.net/video/4KsJn3HYzjI/видео.html
Try Charlotte Sometimes next, it's so atmospheric and such a great listen every time!
Excellent request
The Cure are my favourite band. I think you can hear some songs from poronography album or disintegration album. For example hanging garden or 100 years, pictures of you, last dance. Thanks for this video.
Hear are some other songs by The Cure: Let's Go to Bed, Love Song, Just Like Heaven, Mint Car, Friday I'm in Love.
:) brings back memories - so long since I last heard this... The Cure have many essential tracks; another rabbit hole
Man this was right up my alley. I loved the mood and the beat so much. I'm glad you enjoyed! 🐇 🕳 for days
I saw the Cure perform this cool and spooky song about a haunted forest live for the first time ever last year and it was epic. The whole show was awesome, mostly filled the band's darkest songs like this and "Disintegration" which is what I prefer. The played all their poppy hits in the last set. Just a great great band. Enjoy discovering their incredible catalog.
Drumming wise sometimes songs like this are a whole other kind of challenge. No fancy fills, changes, or accents to hide behind - the job here is just to hit that pocket and stay there the entire time, for 3 minutes straight (or whatever), never slipping, never dragging, just being consistent af so the other instruments (guitar especially) have the freedom to float around on top of the beat and create that vibe
Dunno if you ever got to The Hanging Garden but if not, that's a much more drum forward arrangement
The Cure ❤
So glad I finally listened to them. So amazing. I feel dumb for waiting this long. Lol
You found the cure 👍
And another Cure fan is born
Nice video bro, I can relate to your comments on this song
Hey Lee-just stumbled upon your channel today-great reaction! Loved how you appreciated the sonic layers of this song. Somebody needs to get this guy to listen to another Cure goth rock song “Charlotte Sometimes” (Staring at the Sea - the Singles is the best version) I bet you’ll love it. You’ve got a new subscriber :)
I still find it funny to see Robert as just a normal kid and not yet a superstar. Looks like the kid next door and then fast forward five years and the entire neighborhood would freak out by someone looking like him at that point.
The snare sound is in reverse. You can hear the reverberation before the beat. That's secret sauce of this song imo. Been listening to this since 85.
For real? That explains a lot! Now I'll have to listen to some love recordings for comparison. I'm always so mesmerized and ecstatic--even without drugs--at their concerts that I don't even begin to analyze a single thing. I just soak it alllll in!
Make that LIVE recordings.
The Cure was so great !!! So them in Paris in 1983. With so good melodies !! A sort of dépêche mode, but better to me !!! Punk, new wave, Goth people was there !!!
best band
The Cure are an amazing band, with a lot of different sounds - they make some of the best pop music around (LoveCats, Friday I’m in Love) alongside some of the darkest and most despairing music on record (One Hundred Years, Disintegration); and well over a dozen albums and four+ decades.
They are well worth delving into beyond just the songs famous enough for a RUclips reaction. At the very, very least pick up their early singles collection (standing on the beach, staring at the sea) and Disintegration. If you want the peak of goth gloom, Pornography too.
If you like The Forest you might like Charlotte sometimes, Lament and Cold are my top 3 favorite The Cure songs. They all are some of their darker vibe songs. For more upbeat I love “Catch.”
I've been a huge Cure fan since 1985. There is so much history that I won't even attempt to go through it. Let me list a few albums: Faith, Pornography, The Head On The Door, Disintegration. That is just scratching the surface. Favorite songs (I could easily list 50): Fascination Street, One Hundred Years, Push, Burn (Crow Soundtrack), From the Edge of the Deep Green Sea. There's no way for me to quantify how much The Cure have meant to me over the years. They are up there with Radiohead and The Beatles as my favorite bands of all time.
Sorry to hear about your dad's passing, Lee. Mine had died already 18 years ago, too 😌
And your reaction was fun to watch 😊👍 Robert Smith and Co are still very young here, and it was the pre-makeup days, too 😁
My own first experience had been a TV music show in-studio performance of their song 'The Lovecats', with Smith coming across as a total weirdo; If somebody had told me then that he/they would still be around 40 years later, I would've died laughing - but here we are! 😄
And of course they _are_ a great band, and they did eventually become one of my favourites (along with Rush, The Police, Van Halen, and some others). Their bassist Simon Gallup had been a main influence for me when starting to learn how to play the bass 😊 I'm a better drummer, though 😅 And yes, cool Roto Tom kit! 😀👍
Recommendations:
'Play For Today'
'Pictures Of You'
'A Foolish Arrangement' 🙂
Thank you for the kind words my friend I really appreciate it. I miss him so much 😢 but I truly know he would want me to carry on and not be hung up on his death. .. thank you for all the suggestions! I'll add em to the list. This was a great first listen and I'm certainly doing more!
@@L33Reacts - You're very welcome! 😌 I'm sure your dad is still around you in spirit, too! 😉👍 I hadn't been very close with my own, but it still is always great when he visits me in my dreams, every once in a while 😊
And also great that you uploaded a Rush video today, too! 🤩👍 Been a fan since '89, when I'd gotten instantly hooked on them via their '84 'Grace Under Pressure' album, which had been among a bunch of LP's a friend had given me to check out 😊
But for some reason, I never got around to buying their last two albums (which include _this_ one) and I also don't have their first four, but everything else in-between 😊
Have a great week, Lee!
😉👍☀️
PS: You're probably not wrong with "latest album" (as opposed to 'last'), seeing there's been heaps of talk about Geddy and Alex possibly reuniting as Rush with a new drummer 😉
A forest by the Cure has to be one of the most covered songs by black metal bands.
You could seriously listen to over 40 of their songs and enjoy the cool vibe of every one of them.
Burn, Fascintation Street & Disintegration are a good start.
My suggestion for the next song by The Cure is the iconic Just Like Heaven 🫶
true composers way beyond their pop hits which are actually really good too
"Live" this is absolutely mental :)
Dude I'll definitely listen to it! I really enjoyed this and if the live is even better I'm totally down for it
Check out From the Edge of the Deep Green Sea (personal favorite), To wish impossible things, and Cut all from their album Wish. It’s one of my favorite cure albums. Hope you like it.
This song is in personal top ten of the best songs of all time. If you want to listen to more of The Cure, you have quite a choice :
- their first album is very good. At the time it was quite revolutionary. Some songs are absolute bangers (Boys don't Cry / 10-15 on Saturday Night...). There is no real unity, a collection of songs.
- in the beginning of the 1980s they then made 3 very dark albums (Seventeen Seconds, Faith and Pornography). A Forest is from the first of these. Pornography (both the Album and the Song) is a pure master-piece. It gains them the reputation of having been among the bands that invented Gothic Rock.
- After that they made a series (10) of albums, mainly in the second half of the 1980s, which are more pop and less dark. They had a lot of n° ones. Most of these albums are very very good and none are bad.
Almost all the bands of many genres cite The Cure as a major influence.Their impact on music is even wider than their success which was great at the time.
Simon Gallup is such a great bassist : his bass lines are pure, simple but perfect. Robert Smith is a master guitarist with a very specific style and sound.
Robert Smith made no solo albums. But he was the guitarist of another great band for two of their best album : Siouxie and the Banshees. You should listen to them too.
The Cure are the NUTZ
Wahhooo that’s some fucking song and 40 years old da fok😊
Not that it's particularly interesting to anyone but me and close friends but Lol Tolhurst is one of my favourite drummers. I love his minimalism.
Others I respect are Jaki Liebezeit, Moe Tucker, Klaus Dinger, Charles Hayward, Tony Allen, Bobby Z and Wolfgang Flür.
I just thought I'd drop my blah here, ha ha! 🙂
Im glad you said that! I couldn't find a word to really describe his drumming but yeah... minimal works great. He serviced the song properly and executed everything great! I'll have to catch more of his stuff with the cure
@@L33Reacts - Thanks! Yeah, he sounds like a machine (a drum machine, ha ha!)
I love repetitive rhythms that don't change much!
It's easy enough to program a machine or computer to do that but to physically play like that takes a massive amount of discipline and I really admire that. 🙂
@@L33Reactsand as for Lol Tolhurst and his minimalist drumming - Siamese Twins has a genius drum part of his!
And you can compare the original version of A Forest with live ones from 1992 with Boris Williams on drums and any of later live versions with Jason Cooper. 2017 version, for example
Two thumbs up for Jaki and Klaus!
Hope u ok im steve uk 52 huge cure fan got qll cds dvds rareities seen live . A great band theyve grown from early punky rock to what theye been along time now a diverse band .u hve to check out the cure the kiss live in berlin best guitar riffs solo heavy it amazing track . Hope youok mate
Hey Steve! Nice to have you bro. I will definitely be checking out more from them thank you for the suggestion. I really dug this. I'll definitely do it.
High time for another Cure reaction….! Fascination Street will be a good next one.
As a member of gen x I will say we like to keep some stuff for ourselves.
Glad you like it though!
One of the greatest bands of all time right here. Disintegration (1989) is The Cure's most acclaimed album. Pornography (1982) and Wish (1992) are also brilliant.
My FAVORITE Cure song. But you need to listen to a live version! It jams a few minutes longer live....
They add more?? Oh shit I am in there like swimwear. If they add more to this already great song, I need to hear it lol
@@L33Reacts yea, i always judge a cure show by how many times Robert Smith says "again and again and again... When they do a Forest, lol. My record is 55 times when i saw them in Atlanta. He did 38 when i saw them in Cleveland once, but he improvises on the guitar a few min longer too.
@@L33Reactsup to ten or eleven minutes, dude!
@@L33Reactsor more! This one is arguably the greatest one. Boris Williams on drums ruclips.net/video/hnVldyHRcjU/видео.htmlsi=ngBv90uuFMxQH9xU
For The Cure A Forest is THE song to jam away live
"Disintegration" should be your next Cure listen. It is amazing!
No! Do them in chronological order!
Ooo! Yes AND Cure! By far the best reactor channel. Might inspire me to do a reaction channel too! The Cure is another amazing rabbit hole, but very different than yes. Cure is dark, and moody, and melancholy.
You are too kind, my friend. I really enjoy your gaming videos. When I wake up in the morning, somehow your videos are playing. But it's OK because they are kinda relaxing to wake up to lol.
Start one bro! It's awesome.
@@L33Reacts ooo! Had no idea you checked out the gaming. :) thanks! Stay strong!
I sure do bro I appreciate your support so I always try to return the favor! You and the boys deserve it.
☮
Surprising RUclipsr who never listened to the cure
Also listen to The Cure A Night Like This
I'm here because of the Cure, and then you mentioned jumping on the train. So, obviously, my mind went further back into the Cure's history to Jumping Someone Else's Train. I always liked how it speaks to every generation's "cool kids'" fear of thinking for themselves.

Here is a link to The Cure live called Orange . I know someone else already talked about it in comments but here is a link.
ruclips.net/video/SXvEVl9MFB4/видео.htmlsi=ANVhOmFsrmA87pFI
Also check out the song Killing an Arab
I recommend Prayers fir Rain/Same deep Water as You next. (They are really like one song and should be played together.) Actually just do the whole disinigration album. You have alot of good Cure to get through! Watch me Fall off the Bloodflowers album is also a great tune off a great album!
I second the whole Disintigration album. Also check out a video of A Forrest live, it’s a whole different experience. Theres one from a festival in the early 80’s when the venue cut their set short and gave them one last song, they played this and they made up an extra verse on the fly to make it longer and piss them off. 😂
I saw them in concert over the summer, getting tickets as a casual fan, and I’ve been obsessed ever since. A Forest is by far my favorite. 10:15 Saturday Night is another Oldie but Goodie.
The version from their live concert film, In Orange, is the best. Filmed in Orange, France in one of the most intact Roman amphitheaters in the world. Probably not going to find it on youtube though, or not a clear version. Oh, here it is at 55:00 ruclips.net/video/SXvEVl9MFB4/видео.htmlsi=5aUubG53XSln5mq3
New wave was almost as edgy as punk when it first hit. And, sure, it got weird, pretentious and highly commercial when the music biz saw dollar signs, but the early days were genuinely cool. Even bands like Simple Minds, who lost the thread when they got big. In fact, you should really check out their iconic 1982 in Newcastle show. Take your pick which song to react to, but I'd recommend either Somewhere in Summertime or The American.
I'll take a look! Thank you for the suggestions
Robert Smith has NEVER been a solo artist!
👍
The Cure "A Strange Day" might be a good cut, whether you react to it or not. Moody, atmospheric, other-worldly, and a heavier snare sound.
Anything off the album pornagraphy is outstanding.
Listen and watch Fascination Street.
listen to all the early albums... they're one of the most eccentric British bands around. No one like them. Also, check the Creatures and Siouxsie & The Banshees... Budgie's drumming is a wonder to behold.
I'm definitely going to hear more from them. I absolutely LOVED this and it's been on repeat since I published this video lol
Hi there! First time on your channel, guess RUclips recommended it cuz I watch a lot of the Cure stuff! It’s really exciting to see someone discovering this band that really changed my life as well as millions of others! For you as a drummer I’d recommend a live version of Want or Burn, these two come to my mind first drum-wise:) not even singles, but still fan-favourites and live staples, these songs have all the elements that define the sound of the Cure and the drums are crazy. Lol Tolhurst who played in A Forest was far from being a virtuoso, but still came up with some simple but beautiful grooves too and I think he influenced the style of Boris Williams the next long-term drummer (Lol switched to keyboards) and the current drummer Jason Cooper. Damn, here I go encyclopaedic again:) So try Want or Burn, you’ll be amazed:)

Robert Smith during his Ben Affleck days
Sorry about your dad, like a big loss of a good friend as you get older.
You shoud listen Fascination Street. You shoud listen Fascination Street. You shoud listen Fascination Street. You shoud listen Fascination Street. You shoud listen Fascination Street. You shoud listen Fascination Street. You shoud listen Fascination Street. You shoud listen Fascination Street.
Robert Smith looks like Ben Affleck at that time 😆
Check out Other Voices
Fender Jazzmaster.
Robert Smith looks more Ben Affleck than the Ben's bro Casey Affleck does😂
Please react to facination street
i think this is from 1979 ?
Listen to One Hundred years by the cure
Will do! Thank you!
Push and Exploding Boy are probably my two favourite, (if I HAD to chose), Cure songs. So many awesome albums full of world class tracks. Enjoy.
Thought you would like this, you seem like a "mod" , see if you can find out what that is, its a thing from the 80s.
I spent $5 bucks for a band on the run Era Tape
Robert Smith saved us all from Mecha Streisand 😁
Listen figurehead álbum pornograph 1982
Pornography, From their darkest album!! With the same name as the song.
Ben Affleck lol😅
young Ben Affleck sang great, right?!
