You proceed to a very good analysis. Very tough task ranking all Nazareth albums.... Here my personal benchmark: 1- Hair of the dog 2- The Newz 3- Rampant 4- Expect No Mercy 5- No mean city RIP Darrell, Dan & Manny. Thanks for everything
Amazing undertaking. While my ranking would obviously be different in some places it’s actually reasonably similar. The main two differences I can see is id have 2XM a lot higher, top 7 or 8 in fact, their best album since No Mean City for me. I would also have had Rock n Roll Telephone lower. It’s pretty average to my ears.
Nice ranking... I'd say all of the albums from No Jive to Tattooed On My Brain are superb. The 80s ones are hit and miss, but have some great tracks on... l don't min d the weaker songs because I listen to albums as a whole. And Nazareth's weaker moments are most of today's band's best lol. The debut album until Malice In Wonderland, again superb. I told you Nazareth's version of Burning Down was a lot better than Meatloaf's. One or two of your 'not my cup of tea' songs l disagree with, especially Butterfly... I think that's a beautiful song. But we all gave our opinions. I've seen post year 2000 Nazareth 3 times and met Dan McCafferty and the band each time... great lads. Such a shame Dan had to retire due to ill health. I personally like Carl Sentence and the Tattooed On My Brain album. I'd place that one a lot higher... but again each to their own. I enjoyed your ranking lan thanks for doing Nazareth and I'm glad you've explored them further. I'll watch your Thin Lizzy ranking soon. Take care mate.
@@Iainrankingtheobscure I admire you for doing these rankings as l find ranking my favourite band's albums virtually impossible. I know my bottom 3 or so but after that... lol. So my bottom 3 Nazareth albums best to worst: Sound Elixir Snakes N Ladders The Catch
80's Nazareth had a few good albums.. 70's nazareth was great. 90's had a few good albums. 2000's had some good stuff. My Reviews (Not in order) --------------------------- ##Sound Elixer - I liked back room boys and local still. They aren't like classic nazareth. But they are the 2 best songs on this bad album $$The Catch- There is nothing good on this album ##Tatooed On Your Brain- If it werent called Nazareth it might be rated a 5. But it sound nothing like Nazareth.. ##Cinema - Not Bad. I like it for what it is. Good album ##No Mean City- Excellent ##Play'n The Game - Excellent ##Hair Of The Dog - Excellent ##Rampant - Excellent ##Loud and Proud- Excellent ##Nazareth S/T - not bad for an early album ##Excercises - It is what it is for a debut album. But it isn't good ##Expect No Mercy - Not as good as other Nazareth 70's albums. But,It has mant fine sonmgs on it ##Close Enough For Rock and Roll- Excellent ##Razamanaz - Excellent ##No Jive - No Manny. But it does have some great tunes. It is not a stinker. It is good ##2XS- I dig it. It isn't up to par with the excellent albums. But it has some great tunes ##Malice In Wonderland - What happened? No Mean City came out before this and it was raw and heavy. This sounds like a completely different band. There some good songs on it .But wtf? ##The Newz- Not bad. I enjoy most of the songs. ##Rock N Roll Telephone - I enjoy most of it. It is neither bad or excellent. It is good. ##Big Dogz -Not bad. I like some of it. ##Snakes and Ladders - It sounds nothing like Nazareth. It sounds too polished. There are a few good songs on it. ##Boogaloo- Not bad. Not good.It had some cool tunes.. It didn't suck ##The Fool Circle- I bought this when it came out. I was in the Army in Germany. It wasn't like classic Nazareth. But .It is not bad.. Move Me - A Billy Rankin album disguised as a Nazareth album. I do like it though Nazareth has been around so long they have different styles. Some bad management advice hurt them .Unlike AC/DC they tried different styles and they probably shouldn't have. Nazareth are like Neil Young. You never know what the next album will sound like.
Just found your channel recently and I am a big fan of album rankings. Great details and very interesting review of the Nazareth cannon.
Glad you enjoyed

RIP Darrell, Dan & Manny. Thanks for everything
I like more the 80' than the new ones.
1973 Razamanaz
1973 Loud 'n' Proud
1974 Rampant
1975 Hair of the Dog
1976 Close Enough for Rock 'n' Roll
1976 Play 'n' the Game
That was interesting. My #1 would be a very close call between "Hair of the Dog" and "Close enough for Rock and Roll"
Some good comments but it is a little annoying that you constantly mispronounce Dan McCafferty’s name as McCaffrey.
I'm only human
I really enjoy listening to your rankings, and breaking down each track. Hope you post more..iron maiden? Acdc? Accept? Sabbath?
Hi thank you for your comments and I will be happy to rank those bands for you
