    Another spectacular job Dave!! Can't get enough of those 1970's NBC AFC broadcasts. Man the Steelers were such a great dynasty. The best one I've seen.

    Great broadcast with Don Criqui and John Brodie with WIIC 11 Pittsburgh as the station identification! Good and physical matchup! Thank you!

    This is a marvelous treat! With this being an AFC East and Central matchup, chances are this was not telecasted on the west coast where I live at the time, so this game is new to me.

      That is the beauty of this continuing project- bringing more regional broadcasts and teams to those who never got a chance to view them.

      My late roommate Donnie G, loved watching those Super Steelers 1970's teams. It seem like every time i passed by his room I'd hear some familiar 1970s commentator calling a game. He passed away in Jan 2024. I miss hi. Be was beautiful person with a big 💔 RIP Donnie G.

    The TV car Ads in this video, where fuel mileage was emphasized, a motivating aspect with that marketing approach was with fuel shortages in the US that year with a corresponding rise with gasoline prices.
    According to some online sources, cutbacks in Middle East oil production, in 1978 ~ '79, was a primary cause.
    Price of gasoline in the US rose some 25+ percent in 1979.
    I recall in California that gas sold, for the first time, at a dollar per gallon. While that may sound like a bargain, minimum wage at the time was $2.75/hour.

    • @blitzmom2674
      @blitzmom2674 8 дней назад +4

      Gas was rationed for a time, and one could only buy it every other day, based on license plate numbers.

      In Phoenix gas hit $1 a gallon in Feb, 1980, then spiked to $1.30 by spring before dropping to $1.15 in the summer where it stayed off & on until around 2001.

    Thanks for the post and the great commercials (when most of our goods were made in the USA) Never saw this game as it wasn't aired where I live.
    As of Oct, 2024 both these guys in the booth are still living. John Brodie is 89 and Don Criqui is 84.
    The K Mart commercial at 1:07:56 is a reminder of their glory days. Their last store is closing on Oct 23, 2024.

    1:29:22 … beyond the games.. which are a treasure, are the commercials, which are very nostalgic, but THIS one with Mike Webster is very insightful into the player, the man, and the causes he stood for that may never get noticed otherwise.
    Thank you for sharing not only the game, but the era.. ironically some of this is relevant still today ✊🏾

    Also saw the SNL land shark, the original miller high life Christmas commercials
    MAN, this brought back the memories of my pre teens. aka the good ole days. Thanks for this little gem. 🎉,🙏🏻

    My favorite Bills teams in this era. Bills were on the ascent and beat the Steelers at home the next year in 1980. Would love to see that one as I’ve seen a low quality version on YT. Is this the game Jim Haslett kicks Bradshaw in the head?

    Anyone else notice the formations with no slot recievers. With Double backs in the backfield we're talking old school formations. NO QB SHOTGUN . Hardly
    any motion men either. Almost like its a whole different league compared to today's game play.
    Here we Go Steelers, here we go! . lol.

    Head-Hangin' Joe Ferguson had a pathetic QB rating of 18.6 in this game. Holy smokes, that is putrid. He could have spiked the ball on every down and had a better QBR. Also, Chuck Knox was insanely overrated. A .500 coach who for some unknown reason is mistakenly remembered as a great coach by Bills fans.

    • @davevolskysbackdoor5673
      @davevolskysbackdoor5673  4 дня назад +1

      It's true that Knox's record with Buffalo was 37-36 in 5 seasons, but he took over a Bills team that had gone 5-23 the prior two years and had them in the playoffs his third and fourth years. In the 11 years prior to his arrival the franchise had gone 48-103-3 and only made the playoffs ONCE, all while having OJ Simpson on the team. So his arrival WAS a huge turnaround for a long-time floundering Buffalo team. Knox has the 11th-most wins in NFL history - hardly overrated.
