About this video: With the retirement of MBTA’s single level cab cars well underway by April of 2024, the Hyundai Rotem CTC-5s (1800s series) began making their way to the North Side. One of the first several that did was unit 1811, which obtained a wrap specially designed for the Army-Navy football game trains which operated in December 2023. Blind trailer coach 846 has also obtained an identical wrap and remains in operation on the South Side. The clips in this video were taken during the 1811’s first few weeks on the Newburyport/Rockport line throughout April in the towns of Beverly, Hamilton, and Ipswich, MA.

Holy smoke no dirt on 3C 1052 LOL 😅 I am very impressed 😅I saw a week or so ago 3C 1054 going by my house it was dirty yuck 😅 🤣 also one of our railfanners were saying the other day that 3C 1034 and 3C 1059 are being tested I can not wait to see them and also I can wait to see 010 011 too I love your videos and I enjoy them very much
That railfan lied! They haven’t even started testing them in Erie. 1034 is still in the shop getting painted from what I heard. They would have been tested there long before getting sent here.
Update: On June 26, 2024, after about a week of running on the track geometry train covering Worc & GJ with 3 CT Rail wrapped MBB coaches recently returned from their lease in Connecticut & ofc the corridor clipper. 3C 1065, the MBTA officially retired the last single-level cab car, 1647, ending a 35-year long career with MBTA. R.I.P MBTA Bombardier CTC-1Bs 1989-2024, you’ll be missed, rest in heavenly peace. 😭😢😥
The 1647 hasn’t been decommissioned yet, and it was still sitting in Somerville just the other week. It doesn’t look like it’ll be returning to passenger service, but it is still possible that there’s some life left in it
agreed 1647 will probably be used for extras or occasionally run for other thing that are non passenger service. They’ll probably be used like the ctc-3’s
The only ctc-3s I can think of that were retained are 1505, 1509, 1518 and 1520 which were leased by conndot in June 2018 along with 12 btc-3s and returned from the lease last year. The MBTA is keeping some of the 500s at BET while the other 500s and all 12 1500s are being held at Rochester or Berkshire Scenic. Probably all of them will be scrapped once the newly approved option order of the new doubles is fulfilled by 2027.
The 1512, 1513, 1524, and 1529 are still used on test trains out of Rochester Mass
I saw 1811 on April 19th during its first few months on the North Side. After a more than 3 year hiatus, Hyundai-Rotem cab cars are finally returning North. As of today, eight are North: 1801, 1802, 1808, 1809, 1811, 1819, 1821 and 1824.
