  • In this video I discuss the inspiration for the design of my small studio and workshop here on Mount Desert Island just off the midcoast of Maine near Acadia National Park. This is part 1 in a multi-part series I've been recording as I continue to refine the design and prepare for the construction of this project.
In part 2, I sketch out the plan concepts and parse the options to show you how I typically begin a project and move forward with an idea.

Thank you for your videos I really appreciate them! I am a graphic designer by profession, but I’ve never heard an architect speak about how they’re making all of their
decisions. Obviously there are some similarities which is why am watching it, but it’s fascinating. I am so impressed with your mastery of the whole process. You’re also a really good teacher. Thank you

2023. As an junior architect I'm having issues on my designing process. It's a thing I really enjoy doing but I think I have to practice more. These step by step videos are helping a lot. Thank you.

Younes Ben Amar You're quite welcome, thanks for your kind words, for watching and subscribing. Often there is a disconnect between architecture school and the reality of practice; I've been determined to make my design practice as much like architecture school as possible, I'm hoping the videos show this explicitly. Best of luck to you in your studies...cheers...

@@30by40 Hey, I love your channel! I've been following you for a few months now and I get so much inspiration from you. I'm not an architecture student, I've just recently realized that I have an interest in it and, looking back on my life, have always been drawn to beautifully designed structures. I'm a little later in life realizing I'm interested in architecture (29 years old) and would like to pursue this field in my after work hours and weekends. Realistically, it's going to be years (5) before I have the money for schooling of any sort.
How can I develop my skills and knowledge in the mean time?
(Practices such as sketching and model building, books to read.)
And is this a field that absolutely requires formal education? Or could I possibly find clients as a freelance architect?
Keep up the awesome work! I look forward to your videos
Also, check out the band Monuments!
