It was less of them forgetting the count, and more them thinking that the check swing earlier in the at bat was not called a swing. Cleveland thought it was 2-1 and that strike call would've made it 2-2
I was at the game. The scoreboard had only 1 strike. There was a pitch earlier in the at bat that was a ball but supposedly the ump said it hit the bat and there was confusion as to if it was actually a ball or a strike. Initially the scoreboard had it as a strike and then it got changed to a ball. So that's why ginenez told him to run.. not because he forgot but because we all thought the called strike was actually a ball and the umps had no clue what to do haha
The context of the count is important. Did the umpire indicate a strike or a foul tip? It definitely didn't appear to be the case while watching live. Either way, no foul tip based on the replay and it didn't appear to be a swing either.
Yes, there was a check swing that was a strike. It was a little confusing but it was strike three for the third out. Batter thought, and alot of fans thought it was a 2- 1 when it was actually 1-2 . This was a 15 inning game that had lots of first time numbers or stats. Indians won with a walk off , bottom of 15.
Kind of. It SHOULD have been 2-1. What got called the second strike appeared to be called a foul ball (it clearly wasn't) and the batter pointed for a check swing (not sure if it was granted, but it wasn't a swing). So the umpire had 1-2, but the second strike was iffy or incorrectly called.
A few things here: first of all shame on CLE for not clarifying the count after the checked swing. Players are responsible for knowing the count. Was strike two a foul ball or a swing? And if it was a swing, it’s poor umpiring by Hamari not to appeal to 3B on a call that close.

And there was no call on the field saying it was a swing…
I thought the plate umpire called it a foul ball, not a swinging strike. Seemed to give a foul mechanic.
@@greglazerwitz3342 either one adds a strike to the count, do you know if the plate ump gave the count after?
@@greglazerwitz3342 that's foul tip singal though
@@koryroth3723 yes there was
