I actually got the shelf for Christmas. I bought the starter kit as well with 2 rails, 5 hooks, and bucket. Very easy setup. I installed them in my basement for the winter, then will move them to garage for the warmer months.
I agree about the tool shelves. My use case for the tool shelf would have flush sides (exclude the screw driver holders). That would potentially allow us to place multiple tool shelves side by side with little on no gap between them.
Personally, I think making it optional with a punch out on the sides , (kind of a insert tab A into Slot B type of thing) to slide them in if wanted would be better, and then at the bottom add an additional lip like in the other four cavities, so that you could hang a second one of these in place next to it and gain an additional slot. Obviously this would negate the use of the screwdriver holder (except for maybe some stubby drivers) but as we have seen, it is a bit on the weak side anyway. Just a Thought Royobi...
Absolutely not done with Ryobi Link. Keep the videos coming so we can live vicariously through you 😂 Will the brushless non-HP drill and driver fit on the shelf?
Also wold like to see a hybrid radio with a battery charger built in, so it can charge a battery while plugged in to AC power, but also run off Battery when not plugged in. Same fore the tripod lights and cannon fans.
Yes, Link mount for chargers PLEASE! It would be interesting if they came out with an adapter that allowed you to plug in a tool and a battery at the same time. Essentially turning any tool into a hybrid. Might require some kind of switch to go back and forth. Or some kind of additional contacts like the EVERCHARGE system.
@@shadvan9494 This!!! I’ve always Ryobi to make a supercharger that also doubled as a job site/portable radio & Bluetooth speaker. Now if they could make it attach to the Link rolling cart and the Link rails, I believe that would be the killer app for both the Link rolling cart and wall systems. I can only dream at this point though.
This was a very good review. I appreciate your critical perspective. I was concerned that you might become less critical now that you are getting freebies. I find the Link reviews interesting. I am considering getting some Link components. These reviews will help me to implement an optimal storage system for my needs. Thanks!
Thanks! Absolutely, a free tools is nice and helps us review more tools but that was never our goal. It always has been and continues to be providing honest reviews. If you ever feel we have strayed from that path, be sure to call us out!
Ditto. I had not paid attention to the rolling tool carts before because I’m no contractor. But when I watched the Link promo videos, while I love what Eyobi has done with the wall system, I’m already well invested in pegboard and French cleats. But those videos did give me some ideas on how I could use them that I had not considered before. Think traveling, tailgating, camping, and you can see that one again Ryobi is positioning themselves as power tools and accessories for more than just contractors.
I have recently subscribed because I like the way you are unbiased in your appraisal of these products . I like Ryobi as it is affordable for the occasional Power tool user . I did not buy the Ryobi tool cabinet as it screams " steal me I'm in here" . If i got broken into . I bought a better quality plaine cabinet
Thanks for watching! Well, we all still have some biases but we definitely strive to be honest and point out when it is “our opinion”. And as much as we love Ryobi products, we are realistic about their quality, price, and overall value. If you feel we ever start to stray from that, be sure to call us out! 😁
Great review. I love this as a buy-it-and-forget it tool holder but everything else is a let down. I would prefer that Ryobi drop the hooks (even if they were stronger) and the top drill bit slot and sell magnetic tool holders separately to give you the ability to customize the unit to your hearts desire. Or leave it as is to take as little space on your Link racks as possible. That way you could put two of these side-by-side with no wasted space. What do you think?
Are you on one breaker for the batteries? Also, what are they all plugged into? Right now my whole garage is one breaker. I have 3 chargers hooked to it right now. I’m clueless when it comes to electrical.
Yes, they are all on one breaker. Into a surge protector (Not ideal). I am not an electrician but batteries don’t pull a lot of power like a microwave or table saw so you can get away with several on a breaker without overloading it. I do have 3 breakers in my garage and plan to spread the load a little better in the future.
Great question. Spoiler alert for a future video… but I am using the plastic containers on the bottom row. 😁 Probably not the best use of space and money. But it helps keep little things off the table and from rolling around.
Most takes one row to be hooked and one row beloow is wasted from the hanging part if the tool. PAINT THE WALL THE SAME COLOR AS THE ROWS. Skip every other row. You will have the look AND you'll be saving money.
New subscriber, thank you for the great info. I noticed your wall of batteries, is there any negative impact to having these on battery all the time. I've seen other brands that don't do a very good job causing the battery to slowly drain faster than having it off the charger when its fully charged.
Great question! Most modern chargers and batteries have technology to help charge the batteries in a smart way. Meaning that it will periodically check the battery and trickle charge it if needed but won't constantly flood the battery with power like we were used to in the past. That being said, it is not recommended to keep a battery at 100% all the time. Even if they are on a smart charger. To help keep the batteries lasting longer, we do two things. The first is labeling all the batteries so we can use them in a sequential order (as much as possible). The second is we turn off the charging wall for periods of time so they are not constantly being topped off. If you plan to store batteries for a long period of time without use, the manual recommends 30%. That is also why when you receive a battery, it will typically have between 25-30% charge. Hope this helps, thanks for watching!
13.14 Ryobi say you should store the tools the other way around, eg the tool end (not the battery end ) into the holder, that would solve your belt clip problem
Is there any thin rubber material that could be used to place on the edge of the slide tool holder that would protect the tools while placing them into and removing them from the slides? Are there sheets of material that could be cut into strips and glued to the slide areas for tool protection? Thanks for any comments on this possibility.
I’m a little surprised they didn’t roll out one of those for the Link system at launch. I think a lot of the audience that this will appeal too would love to have a no-hassle hanging wall cabinet.
They pretty much gave one away with every purchase for other power tools as a special for a while. Pretty sure you can still get them for free over at dto
Yeah, I think so. I just pulled the list price as of today but I remember it being much higher as well. Honestly it's part of the reason I didn't already have it.
If want better way cut wood round dowels buy like 5ft 3$. Get 1/2 dowels cut them 3 inches long hang all your tools perfect for 3-6$ bucks. Put 2 anywhere in wood width you like for your tool and bam.
The biggest waste of space is how you have all those link rails stacked on top of each other. At $25 per 2 pack that’s at least like $200 in just rails? Crazy, at least skip a space or something at least. You can use another one as a template to get the spacing right if you want to bridge them for your battery holder on the left. Nobody in their right mind should pay $200+ to cover a 6’x6’ section in plastic and you can’t use at least half the cleats anyway. If for some reason you need to stack one you can always shift one up or down if you skip, or add one in the in-between space.
They must have overproduced the hell out of that sprayer or it’s such a failure they want them all gone because I’ve gotten four of them free this week.
i have mixed thoughts on ryobi link. i mean... why not just pegboard like any other sensable DIYer. its cheaper and universal. just seems like a product targeted purely for ryobi fanboys.
Let us know what your favorite Link product is and what tool you wanna see next!
Just started my Ryobi link journey
You won’t be disappointed
Ty bro! I just purchased the link system, after watching your installation video and my garage wall pretty much looks like yours.
I like it!
Freeing up space makes room to buy more tools. Very clever Ryobi. ;)
I actually got the shelf for Christmas. I bought the starter kit as well with 2 rails, 5 hooks, and bucket. Very easy setup. I installed them in my basement for the winter, then will move them to garage for the warmer months.
How’s it working for you?
I agree about the tool shelves. My use case for the tool shelf would have flush sides (exclude the screw driver holders). That would potentially allow us to place multiple tool shelves side by side with little on no gap between them.
We do that with the hanging shelf in our latest video ruclips.net/video/zVCxKO7vdwg/видео.html&lc=Ugx3eg3cX5lOmt8P8AR4AaABAg

Thanks for the great video. You've addressed how I'm going to configure my system. I have the same work bench.
The every other idea is gonna help me and I'll probably get at least one of those shelves. Can't wait to be able to get my hands on some
Absolutely not done with Ryobi Link. Keep the videos coming so we can live vicariously through you 😂 Will the brushless non-HP drill and driver fit on the shelf?
Don’t worry we won’t stop haha. Yes the non-hp fits on the shelf
I would love to see a link mount 6 pack battery charger/battery organizer

I'm more interested in the rolling containerized storage system than I am the link "display" system. Great review!
Absolutely! We have more videos on the tool boxes coming soon. Unfortunately it looks like they are going to be online order only for most locations.

What is the best hook/solution for the bigger tools, such as the 7" circular saw?

Keep up the great work. I’m looking forward to getting to rails and 2 shelves
Nice! We got word they should be available in most stores by the end of the week!
I like them better spread out. Soon I'd like to show my Ryobi link stations.

No
was waiting for this sytem to come out and today went and started my buy, was unable to find any shelfs the one thing I was hoping for
Yeah it’s slowly showing up in Home Depot, lots of the time it’s in a trailer in the back that hasn’t been unloaded yet.
Home Depot online order. Just ordered me a couple plus the system

@@LoganEversole thanks for the reply.
Can you use the bottom rail at all? If you can, what would you put there? Thanks.
Great question. Spoiler alert for a future video… but I am using the plastic containers on the bottom row. 😁 Probably not the best use of space and money. But it helps keep little things off the table and from rolling around.
What was that 6-plex battery charger at the bottom left? I have a 6-plex sequential charger, but it does not look like that.
Good question! It is actually an old Ryobi Super Charger. The P125.

What screws do you use to mount the wall rails?
When does it come too the UK?
Not sure, hopefully sooner than later!
13.14 Ryobi say you should store the tools the other way around, eg the tool end (not the battery end ) into the holder, that would solve your belt clip problem
Hey thanks .
How will you utilize the bottom rail? Would it be obstructed by the bench? Thanks.

Nice job very helpful. What charger is that with 6 batteries?
It is an old Super Charger P125
I'd buy the metal shelf box they released last year
I’m a little surprised they didn’t roll out one of those for the Link system at launch. I think a lot of the audience that this will appeal too would love to have a no-hassle hanging wall cabinet.
LOL you got a sprayer. They cant give enough of those away. I saw pictures of them being used as packageing for other products
🥴😆
Yeah, doesn’t look like sold as well as they thought they would. But, gives us a chance to try it out. So we are grateful to get it either way. 👍
Huh, that explains the price drop. I thought it was like $250 not $99
They pretty much gave one away with every purchase for other power tools as a special for a while. Pretty sure you can still get them for free over at dto
Wasn’t that electrostatic sprayer previously double the price? Must have had a drop in MSRP
Yeah, I think so. I just pulled the list price as of today but I remember it being much higher as well. Honestly it's part of the reason I didn't already have it.
I’d like if the took the wall cabinet and made it link compatible
It's a nice system, a little expensive for me. I have quite a bit invested in peg board and hooks, think I'll stay with that.
Yeah, it’s pricey. Peg board is much more affordable.
I think it likes nice, but it would be nice if ryobi would come out with different colored rail systems and you would be able to mix colors.
That'd be cool!
If want better way cut wood round dowels buy like 5ft 3$. Get 1/2 dowels cut them 3 inches long hang all your tools perfect for 3-6$ bucks. Put 2 anywhere in wood width you like for your tool and bam.

i think the fact that it doesnt fit the no compact tools as well is a bit of a let down.
