can confirm that the knorr tamarind soup base is pretty much a household staple and even restaurants use it. even in the philippines, it's rare for people to make their own sampalok base since it's cheaper to just use the powder. if you want a thicker broth, you can also add taro root (locally called gabi)

I’m so boring…everyone’s been asking for Nigerian soups and other cool soups and I’m still over here asking for classic broccoli and cheddar 😂

You should try vietnamese sweet and sour soup. They balance the sweet, sour, and salty in a different way but very similar to the Philippine soup. I love both

Hey try your hands on some delicious Nigerian soups (they call them soups, but they're more like stews).

Okra to make the soup a little thicker? More velvety, I think the word is.

Very interesting soup. I would love to taste it, so I'll have to make it. thanks for sharing. BTW my husband is German, and he always corrects me, apparently the correct way of saying Knorr is to pronounce the K or the "C" sound..

Lets goooo! Thank you! Can confirm, I've made it both ways. The knorr packet is the only way. It is certainly the best way.

Knorr tamarind soup base is just consistent like that, while fresh tamarind is cool, it's flavor can vary from ultra sour to very mildly sour and more sweet. you can also put ginger with the tomatoes at the start.
make it your own tbh, it's meant to be a rustic dish, add what you want

you know its legit when it says a dash or a pinch of something,, but its more than that. yes gordon ramsey does that a lot.

There is probably no better soup for you when you are getting over a cold. The tangy, spicy, brothy flavor just makes you feel comforted and healthy again.
