Takes me back to September 1988. Drank first Weissbier in Oberammergau, Southern Bavaria at age 16. Drank two glasses and could hardly eat my lunch. Never forget the server bringing the beer on a lipped circular drink tray. Two large, tall, oddly shaped glasses brimming with this pale golden and succulent drink. Amazing memories. Thanks for the video and Cheers from Canada!
Just had a bottled Franziskaner and loved it, flavour is great, it's nice and thick, not watery at all. Amazing for an mass produced beer, and the price is decent.
I can best appreciate a Franziskaner, Erdinger or Paulaner in the summer being thirsty after a long bike ride. The first one usually goes rather quickly.
Franziskaner is my all time number one favorite wheat beer. Tastes so heavenly. I could go through a keg like that every month. Saw one of your other videos, well done as usual.
Absolutely love your reviews Simon. The best. My favorite part of the day, after a long day at work, is hearing you say: "It's beer-o-clock" and "stone the crows." Could you share a link for your wife's reviews also so we can support her channel as well. Cheers!
Franziskaner was one of my gateway beers into craft beer. Not that it's a craft beer itself, but it was on tap in my local and made me realise how shit the UK macro lagers were in comparison, and encouraged me to go hunting for better beers. Looks banging out of the PD, might have to get some myself!
you have your bar area nicely set up. don't know much about you but seems like you have a healthy relationship with beer. You seem to try and e joy a vast array of beers and have avoided the dangers or overuse of alcohol.
Ahhhh good 'ol Franziskaner! The one beer along with SNPA that puts me in the craft world a decade or so ago. I even remember Mel's review! Good stuff.
Unfortunately where I live only Weissbiers available are Paulaner, Franziskaner, Aurum & Patronus, Franz is definitely my favorite out of them all Very good advice on not overcooling your Weissbier, definitely brings out more flavor at a balanced temperature, great review 👍🏻
@@johan_maximus Yes, thats what I meant, mine are imported from Germany to Gibraltar, going for 2-2.50 pounds so :( Just wish there was more variety of weissbier without me having to order from online lol Never tried Kapuziner I'll be sure to check it out
@@FriedrichBarb I am from Argentina and I tried Paulaner, Franziskaner, Hoegaarden and Kapuziner. My favorite is the Kapuziner. It is like liquid bread haha
@@johan_maximus Try get your hands on a Weihenstephaner if possible, very rare to find outside Central Europe but definitely worth it, is my favorite besides Franz =P
@@FriedrichBarb OMG it owns lots of awards! I am afraid nobody imports it here. I am taking notes anyways :) Luckily we have a growing craft beer market, I have some local options to choose from.
To me these are food beers like wine ,goes great with sausage and kraut I feel quite satisfied with just a single glass so would take an age getting through a keg. I'll stick to the bottled one 10\10 for me
cold kills flavour! ...franziskaner and weihenstephaner are the best german wheat beers out there...erdinger is not even in their league as you say german wheat beers have had the haze thing going on for years especially weihenstephaner who have been brewing beer before the battle of hastings got started!😁
I'm just having one of these from a bottle now never tried it before got 5 bottles from lidl it is a lovely beer but if i am being honest i prefer the patronus from lidl it has more flavour and a heavier body that is just my opinion and preference.
It seems like a really big limitation that 3C is the only option on the Perfect Draft. I can't imagine any beer I'd want that chilled except maybe a Bud Light. I prefer lagers to be served around 5C, while wheat ales, bitters, stouts, IPA's etc. taste their best at 7C - 12C.
Not as bad as the Blade or Sub though, those are pre set at 2c but nobody moans about Affligem or punk in torps at 2c !! It seems everyone bangs on about the PD “being too cold at 3c” but no mention of it at all with the Blade or Sub which are pre set slightly cooler still. The thing I’ve found is the PD dispensing temperature isn’t that much of an issue. If you pour into a glass that is not pre chilled by the time you fill your glass especially a pint glass the beer is already at 5c anyway which is about right once you get to drinking it. The Sub and Blade on the other hand only gets to about 3.5c/4c after pouring due to it’s colder preset and slightly faster pour (blade). 5c is about fine for most beers to be drank at, yes on the cooler side but still a decent temperature so all this rubbish about 3c is too cold is nothing utter garbage especially if the blade and Sub “are great” at 2c !!!
@@joffhall81 Heads up to anyone else reading: this 'Joff Hall' has made many lengthy comments on various videos, all running defence for this 'Perfect Draught' and coming up with various, conflicting rationalisations as to why anyone complaining about the 3 degrees ought to stop. Very strange behaviour!
Love the Franziskaner. One of my favourite readily available beers. Fantastically refreshing. However, after about 4 bottles it has a slight treacly flavour. Is this the hop extract, or am I just drunk ?
Missing these perfect draft reviews Simon.. you made me buy both of the machines😂 (first the subcompact and a few months later the perfect draft) Are you planning to pick these kegs up again? The selection kegs has been approved since your last reviews..
If you think franziskaner is a great beer order the franziskaner royal keg from beerhawk omg what a beer i bought 8 kegs of it for the winter nights. Ps love ur reviews
Tastes exactly like a pint you would get in the pub. I was sceptical before I got bought one for my birthday, but it does take beers to the next level, and being in a pressurised keg gives it a lovely soft, creamy mouthfeel. Thornbridge Jaipur out of the PD is incredible. It's also interesting that when you put beers from the PD next to beers from a can or bottle, they look different in the glass, possibly because it goes straight from the fermentation vessel into a pressurised keg so keeps carbonation to a minimum, and is as close to the intended end product as it is possible to get. Bottles are also far more vulnerable to being light struck and the beer inside degrading quite considerably as a result.
Every time I watch you show how to load the perfect draft , except the first time you did it, you do it wrong. It clearly says in the user manual that you add the beer line tube after you click on the pump handle and not before like you alway do. Also the nozzle actually comes off for cleaning and to make it easier to insert the beer line. Anyway, just saying.
It' beer o'clock in St. Petersburg: honestly how can you rate this stuff at 3 degrees? Doing so you lose a lot both of flavor and taste. Better take 5 or 6 degrees. Greets Paul

Franziskaner Weißbier is one of the best Weißbiere in Germany.
True it's my favorit beer.

I love Franziskaner, great stuff! It's one of those beers that transformed me into a beer geek, it made me want to try other great brews.
Had Franziskaner over 20 yrs ago in Tenerife and I was sold on it then.Beautiful beer.
A Franziskaner with blaukraut, schnitzel and potatoes meal is a heavenly creation of the German gods. Nothing beats it in my opinion.
I have 3 franziskaner royal coming today. Can’t wait to try it

Franziskaner is probably the best Weiss I've had. Erdinger comes close though.

Well tbh any macro lager sucks
Or at least that's what anyone with a decent beer knowledge would think
Franziskaner recommends it’s weissbier is served from 8 degrees celsius to 10 degrees celsius
You always make the most thoroughly enjoyable beer videos!
Just ordered three kegs of "Royal" with my 10% discount.
I keep a couple of the old beer lines as spares after a good wash in case of an emergency.
Such a great refreshing beer. Perfect for the hot summer months.

Can't beat a weissbier, dont see them on draught much in the average pub in the UK, maybe an Erdinger or a Blue Moon American wheat if you're lucky.
These machines need temp control. Would be good around 7 degrees and it can start to warm up from there.

Still one of my favourite beers to this day. Must get my hands on a keg.
one of the most flavourful beers in my eyes
In the fridge for a coupla hours, out the fridge for for half hour & BOOM, perfect Weissbier 👍
Great video man! Man I'm just getting thristy when you pour that beer in that beautiful looking glass. Stone the Crow's Simon!
That looks bloody lovely! Love the T-Shirt too! Beer Riff is awesome!

Great review, I have drank Franzkaner out of perfect draft.I agree it’s a little bit cold than should be.
But it’s still lovely .
With the perfect draft can you change the temperature to a higher level

Patronus zero now where did that go
Had this beer on tap in Amsterdam when I was there, it’s a really nice beer👍🏼
Now that looks and sounds like an incredible beer. Great stuff Simon 🤙🍺
Is the stone crow opening for a couple of hours tonight Simon? Cracking review as always
Fantastic beer
I found the Phillips perfect craft. Question is, where do I find the small keg In America!! I’m so jealous of that setup you got. Cheers

People drink ales too cold
That perlander in the background I got from Lidl. It was foul. This beer on the other hand is ace:-)
Perlenbacher is rotten stuff. So bad it is good.
I’ve got the royal version chilling in the fridge!!
Does it clear after a few days?
They say 6-7c is the ideal temp for beer. Cool Tap Dispenser. Cheers.
Love the Franziskaner. One of my favourite readily available beers. Fantastically refreshing. However, after about 4 bottles it has a slight treacly flavour. Is this the hop extract, or am I just drunk ?
I don’t understand why people are saying it’s fixed to 3c.
It says 4 on the dial and i thought in the PD review video he was selecting the temp?
The perfect draft needs a temperature control dial at the front..i love my PD but weissbier is too cold at 3 degrees.
Agreed
Can you not just wait for it to warm up in the glass abit then the flavour will be better ? Or is the flavour already killed as it's been sat at 3°c ?
Where do i get me one of them machines ?

After much time spent in germany - franz is the best weiss in my opinion closely followed by paulina❤
Wait until you get to the last pint in the keg, looks like sludge (still tastes good though )
Try Baltika please the best beer in Europe after check or German ones
Is franziskaner hefeweizen better On Draft better ( Not Fermented ) ,,,,, because iv only had it the Pint Bottle,,, is the Pint Bottle Fermented ?
Great bid si, had this on draft last week in amsterdam

Now we know what the inside of Simon's fridge looks like lol. Mystery solved.
Great video
Better then Weinstephaner despite the beer advocate rating. This shit is liquid gold. Know this.
Glad to see some broccoli in your fridge, m8. Man cannot live on beer and chips alone.
Brilliant 💫
You should wet the glass before pouring for a Weißbier...
No you don’t have to
Anyone else get really wound up when he says “stone the crows” twice?
The is the best German Weiss bier, the brown label one, not the yellow.
