Since making this video, I’ve stumbled upon some interesting new information regarding TNT guy, Phobos and Doom 3 guy. As a few astute commentators have pointed out, it’s very possible that TNT guy is actually just Doom Guy. There’s no direct confirmation either way but it’s implied in the manual. Here’s the part I’m referring to: “Then you heard a snortling gurgle behind you, whirled, to face one of Them. The beings that still haunted your nightmares. Your reflexes weren't dulled by your experiences, and you pulled out your pistol and blew the imp to gory shreds.” I initially thought that he was a different character based on the fact that the manual also refers to him as a “marine commander” which Doom Guy is never referred to as elsewhere. It’s probably much simpler to just say it’s the same character though. I discovered an old strategy guide for Quake III that has extended descriptions of all of the games playable characters. There’s some cool new details regarding Phobos in the book. His name for example, is actually Captain Eldon Brock and he was the leader of a platoon that was tasked with “destroying the last vestiges of the demon infestation” on Phobos. This seems to imply that he was actually sent in AFTER Doom Guy made his way through the mars bases. The other marines he was with were seemingly aware of his upcoming death and appeared to aid in his betrayal as they were given “other orders”. As for Doom 3 guy, my initial statement that he assaulted a superior officer may not even be true. Foolishly, I pulled that piece of information from the Doom wiki which is not a very good source. I was unable to find the origins of that claim, my bad.
the part about doom 3 guy assaulting an officer is actually ripped from the doom novels, flynn taggart (the doom guy of the books) was sentenced to duty on mars cause he knocked out his CO and was court martialed. doom 3 guy was just a FNG (F**n New Guy) marine just starting his first day on mars and all hell just happened to break loose. while the novels are not considered canon some character references like arlene sanders could have been inspired by characters like crash from quake 3....but then again they also called cyberdemons "steamdemons" sooo dont look to far into the books for any canon cause there's very little but they are definitely a great read.
@vecraude the back story of doom guy, as in OG doom guy assaulting his officer is still canon. That came from the manual first and then was put into the novel. It’s canon to the OG doom guy but I still can’t find a source regarding Doom 3 guy
@@Woodyisasexybeast well i was able to source this snippit: "The Doom 3 novel Worlds on Fire gives his name as John Kane, along with a backstory of military indiscretion similar to that of the original classic Doom marine" though....then i think about corporal kane from quake 4 so i think the books again might be canon to a small degree but non canon overall like the writers got vague details about characters and just winged it the rest of the way. what i do know is he was sent to mars UAC to relieve other soldiers and was the FNG in the facility so new guy...but sgt. kelly DID say in the cinematic "we want the scientist alive, do not hurt him" with emphasis on the latter part....so either kelly believes marines were causing the scientist deaths and trauma, or doom marine may be a little more unhinged than portrayed in the game and kelly knows that. that one line ALWAYS stuck out to me for how it was delivered.
@vecraude that line is an interesting pull. I don’t think the books are much to go by though. I haven’t had the chance to read them yet but I’ve heard they depart from the games narrative. They could be canon in a multiversal sense but I’m not sure we can pull from them for the games timelines. Interesting that there may actually be a source that claims doom 3 guy assaulted a superior though. I wish the doom wiki would sight where it pulls its information from. I’ve found it to be very unreliable. For example, I’ve been working on a massive Quake timeline video and the wiki makes mention that one of the ships in the game is called the Phobos. I cannot, for the life of me, find a source on that. Granted, that’s the “Quake wiki” but tomatO tomAto.
@@Woodyisasexybeast i think for something like that your best source would be to actually play through quake 2 and its expansions and look out for all the scattered drop pods throughout the game...texturing wasnt great back then but some drop pods you can decypher some of the names like bitterman being on one of the drop pods in later quake 2 which you get to see again during the expansion. sad that drop pods were not a thing by quake 4 as that would give us some indication on how they assigned and named the drop pods. and the doom books are kiiiiiinda canonish? like for example theres a moment in the beginning of the first book how he was describing the first zombie he seen, he mentioned the red eyes and green hair as well as other details, like....they took some inspiration from the game, got some vague info from ID, and had to fill in blanks and make something out of the little bits they had. honestly they did good for what they had to work with but so much of the book is just for entertainment value not really a tell all book...though the way scenes were described, the fact that out of ALL the religions that existed after earths invasion mormons were the only ones left, that there was a two headed alien named (and im not making this up) sears & roebuck, and some of the combat in the book is pretty good. they explain that imps actually spit not fire but a flaming acid that splashes on enemies and disolves them, they even don't officially have names for the demons in the book so they come up with names on the fly as they spot them and by the third book they start talking like battle tactics and strategies based on what they know about the demons....really good stuff. cant say much for the doom 3 books but the original doom books are worth a read for sure.
also the predator suit the doom slayer has in Doom 2016 and etenral has the cereal number 027 meaning the're were atleast 027 suits ever made @Woodyisasexybeast
@@Woodyisasexybeast And just is doom 64 canon since its my favorite doom game i believe it is since in the end doomguy locks himslef in hell to not let the demons out.
What makes this funnier is if you add in the spinoffs by ea, doom resurrection reveals he is a replacement marine for the bravo team member from the spinoff.
@doom123s7 I really wish that game was playable. I’m assuming it’s canon but I need to play it to be sure. Might just have to find a play through online, if such a things exists :(
Funny enough, there's actually an doom multi verse , just not the tradițional way . In Eternal , every slayer and demon skin are part on an particular universale , and in Battle mode all of those particular universale meet , which makes doomicort hotdog mancubus and lunberjack marauder cannon. Also doom 3 and probably even Something like mighty doom.
Yeah, every play through of every game, every WAD mod MC, every piece of media, is canon exactly as is in different universes. Infinite worlds, infinite DOOM.
@@Woodyisasexybeast its all separate timelines, like Doom3 is its own timeline doom64 was its ow timeline before eternal rolled it in. The Slayer is the Doom 1&2 marine that went through the Doom 64 campaign basically endlessly. Thats the main timeline, Dark Ages will likely be the same timeline but between 64 and 2016 while the Slayer is still a part of the Knights Sentinels. Crash is from a different timeline, Phobos is also. Quake is an alternate timeline as well, Hell is waaay different but still operates on the same basic structure, just more lovecraftian and later just ignored for the straight cyborg Kronenberg enemies because The Ranger defeated "Hell" entirely by killing the mother of monsters, the black goat of a thousand young, shub niggurath. This mirrors Doom Eternal, the Ancient Gods DLCs, the Slayer kills Davoth, which destroys the source of Hells energy, and goes into power saving mode. Most of IDs IPs are interconnected in one way or another. Many worlds, infinite possibilities is all im saying, essentially quantum uncertainty as to what exactly the Slayer went through between 64 and 2016 for the mods, and as another commenter said: skins are also confirmed by the devs to be different slayers doing the same things in many timelines, and multiplayer they all meet in canon in their timelines, meaning each playthrough is canon to a different Slayer.
Oh but they did. His superiors wanted to see what the demons were capable of, so they betrayed him, which lead to his death. It’s implied that they literally sent him in to be killed by them. The exact details are unclear though.
@@WoodyisasexybeastI think he was taken to the Q3 Arena. It’s implied that the Phobos incident was a separate one from the OG Doom game, one that Crash, Phobos, and Doomguy were all at (explaining them showing up in Q3). He might still be out there, getting frags in the arena.
@EejayB7 doom guy wasn’t present during the initial invasion involving Phobos. He hadn’t arrived yet. Here’s a quote from 1993’s manual: “A few hours ago, Mars received a garbled message from Phobos. "We require immediate military support. Something fraggin' evil is coming out of the Gateways! Computer systems have gone berserk!" It continues “You and your buddies, the only combat troop for fifty million miles were sent up pronto to Phobos.” Plus, Phobos does die. Here’s a quote from Quake III: “There, he was betrayed by superiors who thought they could learn more from watching him die than by studying his reports” All that being said, we don’t really know how the arena functions. If Phobos truly died as the description states and wasn’t plucked away moments before his death, the elder beings simply resurrected him for the arena. Clearly they’re capable of bringing someone back to life, that’s the entire purpose of those games.
@manborg84 you don’t actually die. You just take a ton of damage and get really close. I think it’s easy to just assume doom guy killed them off screen
The Soul Cube showed up in Doom 2016, and Doom 3 had a carving of the original Doomguy using it. If you were to try and mesh the canons, you could say that was the Slayer, prior to being locked away and getting new armor... But you likely wouldn't be able to make that mesh with Doom 1/2/64.
@Umbra_Ursus there are multiple universes in Doom. That’s the explanation. The universe that 1/2/64 takes place in is different from 2016/eternal/the dark ages. Doom guy travels from one universe to another. Hell is a multiversal constant but there are at least 2 different earths. Maybe 3, depending on where Doom 3 takes place, which is still unclear.
It’s always possible. Their first appearance was in Quake so if they do a new Quake game, they could appear in that. Or if the Doom Year Zero game isn’t canceled, they could make an appearance there
The doom slayer as we know him (from doom 1, 2, 2016, and eternal) is THE slayer. And is funnily enough, despite being the most played character throughout the franchise, is arguably the least known about lore wise. But there are still other human characters who are also very capable. However, none compare to the doom slayer at his peak. I’d wager he’s one of if not the most powerful living being in his entire universe.
That’s possible but his fate at the end of the level pack is left really ambiguous. He’s left stranded on a moon, which obviously doesn’t happen to doom guy. That, plus the fact that he’s labeled as a “commander” makes me think it’s a different dude. He could’ve gotten a promotion, sure but we don’t hear about that. Still a chance it’s him just doesn’t seem like it
@@WoodyisasexybeastI mean, the end intermission text doesn't even so much as imply he doesn't get any escape, it kinda just briefly describes the immediate conclusion. It doesn't really contradict what happened to Doomguy/Slayer. The labeling of "commander" doesn't contradict anything either, seeing as doomguy is never directly referred to until like DOOM 2016, anyways. Honestly, I would go as far as to say the marine from Doom 3 wasn't meant to be a different character either since that game was just a retelling of the invasion on Phobos (except, they just made it Mars, instead). Granted, I think Doom 3's just about decanonised, unless you decide it's one of multiple dimensions the slayer crossed, which would conveniently fit some story elements. I think Final DOOM can feasibly fit somewhere between DOOM 2 and DOOM 64. Shoutouts to Phobos and Crash, though, it'd be cool if they were revisited in someway, especially since doomguy was mostly a self insert for the player; they could be cool alternatives to use since they can't really use anything else in DOOM classic canon to revisit for nudoom.
@xcel9988 there’s no definitive answer either way. It could be doom guy, I just don’t think it is based on what I already out lined. I’m not sure that Doom 3 guy was ever intended to be the same based on the fact that the ancient Martian stone tablets depict doom guy fighting demons with the soul cube. This obviously isn’t one of the playable characters from Doom 3 because that artwork was made way before his arrival on mars. Doom 3 is canon via the multiverse. I’m a firm believer that it’s in the same universe as 2016/Eternal. There’s zero contradictions between the two
There is no definitive answer no, but what you outlined is sorta insignificant, and, again, not anything contradicting what doomguy is. And, the stone tablets in Doom 3 were likely meant to imply an element of prophecy more than anything; like the person using the soulcube would be you? As well as just being a reference to Classic DOOM visually.
@@Woodyisasexybeast I totally agree for Doom 3, he even discovers Doomguy's Tumb apparently. But The end of Final Doom is a bit evasive if I remember well, nothing préventing the freedom of a Doomguy returning home waiting for Doom 64 events to happen. And you'd think that the guy who came back from Hell twice and saved humanity would a least get a promotion and would be entrusted to watch over UAC experiments ;) Well, that's how I interpreted stuff
Now when you get to quake's side: Q1 protag = Q3 Ranger, survived up to quake champions Q2 protag = stroggified, Q3 Bitterman Q3 protag = sarge (you see his fate in the intro) Q4 protag = Matthew Caine, stroggified, so far the only one who hasn't been transfered to the arenas to fight and die at nauseam
@@christiangottsacker6932about what? Bethesda has never portrayed that doomslayer is the only doom marine I mean hell in (doom3) we play as another protagonist and in the older doom games (1993) there where clearly other doom marines (the red ones and browns) so yeah
Doom Resurrection: This one just has the different surviving doom marines just fucking pointing at each other with varying death music playing in the background.
Everyone forgets that "Doomguy" was meant to be a nameless blank insert because Romero wanted YOU to decide who the Doomguy was. "Doomguy" is also a term made by fans. This is also why the D1 box art shows 2 similar marines because Doom was made with co-op in mind. Doomslayer makes more sense if you think the main inspiration was less the Doom comic and moreso Death Battle: He exists for people that wanted Doomguy to be more powerfull (and also explains the Master Chief comparisons with the armor) Phobos and Crash are Quake 3 skins and were created like 6 years after Doom 1. Considering id's team at the time, don't think Romero or Hall had anything to do with them. D3 was always a seperate game because id wasn't thinking of "connections" at the time. D3 was always its own take on the setting. I don't recall the D3 marine assaulting his officer, though. Then there's the Doom RPG characters, since Doom canon as always a mess but they're partially where "you are related to BJ" comes from.
Wow! Well Done/Said my G!🤘🏽 Im a huge DOOM Fan & have been literally since the day it dropped/i played it as a kid! DOOM 3 having 3 different "Doom Guys" is rarely mentioned! Def got a instant subscription from me brother! Keep it Up!🫡🫡🫡
The Doom 3 novels where writen by the same senarist that wrote the Story of Doom 3, in theses he introduced concepts and characters that didn't make it into the game, such as the alpha shotgun or General Hayden. But also given The protagonist of Doom 3 a name: John Kane, the name John being reused in the 2005 movie at the request of id. Seems like it was the Doom 3 guys canon name all along.
Even thought there are so many doom slayers, we know that from the sentence "the only thing they fear is you" he actually is the only one that can stop all hell
No, that’s OG Doom Guy. His name was Flynn Taggart in a series of now retconned books. Unless they’re canon via a multiversal connection. Either way, different guy.
Honestly I hope dark ages or a future Doom game or DLC can touch more upon these people because crash story is pretty interesting since she was only in quake live and quake 3 and briefly mentioned in Doom 3 I think the doom Marine story is pretty interesting as well and I want to know what happened to him after the events of Doom 3 You really got me thinking lol
But which one is: In the first age in the first battle, when the shadows first lengthened, one stood, burned by the fires of Armageddon, his soul blistered by the fires of hell and tainted beyond ascension. He chose the path of perpetual torment. In his ravenous hatred he found no peace; with the boiling blood he scoured the umbral plains, seeking vengeance against the dark lords who wronged him. He wore the crown of the night sentinels, and those who tasted the bile of his sword named him.... THE DOOM SLAYER....?
@DreadLordS When I initially responded, I didn’t know you were actually asking for clarification. Apologies. The slayer in 2016 and Eternal is the same guy from Doom 1, 2 and 64. Here’s how his timeline goes: 1-2-64 He’s somehow transported to another universe Eternal flashbacks-2016-eternal-ancient gods I like to think 3 is in the same universe as 2016 and Eternal, taking place slightly before. Either way, the protagonists of Doom 3 aren’t the doom slayer. They’re different characters and as mentioned in the video, other “doom guys”. Hope that helps.
TNT Doom Guy is the same Doom Slayer as the one in Doom 64 and the title that came out a few yrs ago. It's assumed that after Doom 2 he wound up trapped in Hell after doom 64, his flashback scene where he says "rip and tear" is a reference to the comics and the song
I wouldn't mind if ID Software and Bethesda actually made a Doom game featuring all Doom Guys in the same game. That would be awesome. Rip 'n Tear at it's maximum level!!!
His lore implies death. The arena resurrects people all the time. He very easily could have died, which is what his description heavily implies. From the Quake III manual: “An experienced veteran, he led the invasion of the demon-haunted tunnels of Phobos. There, he was betrayed by superiors who thought they could learn more from watching him die than by studying his reports.”
I don't know why but Doom having actual lore is really strange to me. For me it was just "Doom guy rabbit dead. Demons kill Doom guy rabbit. Doom guy commit demon genocide."
This little short video has revealed so much, like the fact that there’s DLC’s for Doom 3 and a bunch of older games I never knew existed, and I thought I knew a lot about Doom!
I’m not even sure if this would be considered the most obscure stuff either. Doom RPG, it’s sequel and the mobile game connected to Doom 3 are some notably strange foot notes in the series history. Some of the information here actually comes from Quake, which is one of id’s other games. They have some narrative connections via a shared multiverse
Allow me to assist you on your journey. Final Doom is a collection of two level packs that were officially released by id many moons ago, consisting of TNT: Evilution and The Plutonia Experiment. Nowadays, they can be easily accessed through the recent Doom and Doom II re-releases under the “add ons” section. There’s another level pack that was officially released with an Xbox live arcade port of Doom II called No Rest For The Living. It’s also accessible as an add on. Doom RPG PC port: www.doomworld.com/forum/topic/129997-doom-rpg-port-reverse-engineering-update-version-02/ Doom II RPG PC port: www.doomworld.com/forum/topic/135602-doom-ii-rpg-port-reverse-engineering-version-01/ The Doom 3 mobile game I mentioned isn’t really playable anywhere, sadly :(. It’s called Doom Resurrection and is sort of lost media. It may be playable through emulation but I haven’t found any ways to do that. There are 2 DLC packs for Doom 3, both of which are included in the recent Doom 3 re-release. Resurrection of Evil and The Lost Mission. There’s a crazy Doom comic that’s considered canon. It’s hilarious: archive.org/details/Doom_Vol_1_No_1_1996-05_GT_Interactive/mode/1up There’s also a Doom VR game that takes place around the same time as 2016. It’s called Doom VFR. The Quake series is easy to access these days. Both the first and second game were recently remastered, each includes all previously released DLCs as well as brand new ones only available in said remasters. I hope this will help on your journey. Enjoy!
The only real benefit the various Doomguys have is that they are resistant to the hell energy immediately turning them into possessed zombie soldiers. It honestly makes me wonder how much more damage the various unnamed Space marines could have done if they A. didnt have to deal with as many zombie soldiers and B. Never got turned into bad guys themselves. Like imagine a version of doom where the pistol marines, the shotgunner sergeants and the chaingunners all worked WITH you to kill true demons.
Honestly if anyone has played Doom Eternal or knows of it's existence or even the fact that essentially in the game meta universe itself there are technically multiple dimensions that are all equally canon the minute someone imagined it. That's why The Never Ending Story is truly never ending because everyone has variations of the same fantasy. Seriously from both a philosophical stance and a creative narrative stance this is still a true statement and anyone unaware of that concept really doesn't grasp the concept of what a soul truly is. This is also why it's important to what one focuses their mental energy on and gives power to.
I’ve contemplated this a lot regarding reality. If any aspect of string theory is correct and there truly are an infinite number of unique and identical realities stacked on top of one another, every single story or scenario you can imagine exists somewhere within that infinite expanse. There’s theoretically a countless number of you and I having this same conversation and an infinite variety of variations on the conversation existing infinitely. Doom is real, Halo is real, Starfield is real. If existence is infinite, everything is real. With that concept in mind, theoretically, there are an infinite number of you and I existing simultaneously and eternally. When one dies, somewhere another is born that same instant. Perhaps, in a way, proving reincarnation. Albeit, in a somewhat different kind of way than most people imagine. Every experience you’ve ever had, you’ll have again, as well as an infinite variety of similar and vastly different versions of those experiences. All the joy we’ve felt, we very well may feel again and again, forever. In a weird way, that’s quite comforting.
If Microsoft was “shuffling their cards correctly“ they would have already made spin off games, featuring “doom guy“ as well as “master chief“ and maybe even the “lone survivor“ for an incredible spin off adventure that could span a trilogy at the very least, with the first game, taking place way back in the day before we had the capability to go to the stars! And then one of the sequels taken place during the time after the technological advancements of the post industrial revolutionary age to the modern day apocalypse, and then having to go to the stars as a last resort, and then in that finding Hell in the galaxy out in the universe?! I’ve got so many ideas that I could spitball for this… but just imagine a cross up co-op campaign, where one player got to play his master chief, and the other player got to play as doom guy, too bad ass genetically, modified, super soldiers that were both just huge beasts going on an absolute bloodbath overkill rampage! lol
Cannonically even the modern doom slayers are Marines. Did you even find all of the easter eggs? The 2016 and eternal, there are wall sections in some labs that suggest that doom slayer is the same person as the 1995 doom Marine who was trapped in stasis in ploutunia during the events of 1997's "final doom"
What are you trying to say? None of the characters in this video are doom guy. Save for maybe the first, which is up for debate. I never said doom guy from 93 was different from 2016/eternal. You play as the same doom guy, who becomes the doom slayer in 1, 2, 64, 2016 and eternal. This video is about other “doom guys”, as in, other people who fought demons.
will always prefer the "just some badass who found himself at the wrong place at the wrong time and was just too angry to die like the rest" (indomitable human spirit type beat) over this maryter of revenge and fury, almost religious figure thing they're going for in the modern titles, like sure it's cool, but he lacks the simplicity of just being a guy like the og titles had him, really wish they just kept their creation separate from og doomguy, cuz they're NOT the same in the slightest, plus then you could have that classic marine make a cameo, knowing he's still ripping and tearing to his hearts content in the name of his pet rabbit daisy, the man who walked so the slayor could run y'know?
Regardless of the potential for multiple characters in doom, there is only one "doom guy" and it is the doom slayer from before the saraphim gave him the powers
I mean, no. I just gave you all the evidence that there are several “doom guys”. There’s only one slayer but there are many “doom guys”. The definition of which, in this instance, is someone who’s fought demons
Whenever I think of DOOM, specifically 2, my mind always strays to Myhouse.wad and how Doom Guy is so calm during the entire thing while we’re freaking out wondering what the hell is going on.
I named my fallout 4 character "Stan Blazkowics" after the doom 2 RPG character, and have several doom armor mods, and I just run around the commonwealth shooting and doing missions 😂
I remember typing the most messed up shit to Crash in quake III Arena chat, they programmed responses because they knew somebody like me was going to test the waters lmao
Not sure where you heard that. The only information about the character that I was able to find was from Quake III and there’s no mention of anything like that.
I wish I'd known this sooner. I've spent the best part of a week, reading up on the lore & timelines of Doom & being hella confused. Doom Eternal brought in an overwhelming amount of lore & it was expected of the player to just know all about the Sentinels & Maykers, etc. As far as I can tell Doom, Doom II, Doom 64, Doom 2016 & Eternal are all connected, but where Doom 3 fit into all of it confuses me.
The doom guy from 1, 2 and 64 is the same guy in 2016 and eternal. He somehow, in a way that’s still unclear, hops universes. 1-2-64 in one universe and 2016-eternal in another. As for Doom 3, it confuses everyone because it’s not very clear but there are really only two options. 1. It’s canon via the multiverse but not part of either the classic universe or the new universe Or 2. It’s within the same universe as 2016 and Eternal. So it would be 1-2-64 in one universe then doom guy jumps to the universe containing 3-2016-eternal. Personally, this is the option I believe to be correct.
and this is why we are able to have a doom girl or just another character in general that we can play as in another doom game,we never needed the doom guy/slayer to have a doom game
I was unable to find the origins of that claim, my bad.
the part about doom 3 guy assaulting an officer is actually ripped from the doom novels, flynn taggart (the doom guy of the books) was sentenced to duty on mars cause he knocked out his CO and was court martialed.
doom 3 guy was just a FNG (F**n New Guy) marine just starting his first day on mars and all hell just happened to break loose.

they explain that imps actually spit not fire but a flaming acid that splashes on enemies and disolves them, they even don't officially have names for the demons in the book so they come up with names on the fly as they spot them and by the third book they start talking like battle tactics and strategies based on what they know about the demons....really good stuff.

My favorite doom universe is called Animal Crossing
Yeah, every play through of every game, every WAD mod MC, every piece of media, is canon exactly as is in different universes. Infinite worlds, infinite DOOM.
@doktorphlog2143 There’s only one hell and one slayer. Making every mod work just doesn’t make sense. There’s just too much weird and goofy shit.
Many worlds, infinite possibilities is all im saying, essentially quantum uncertainty as to what exactly the Slayer went through between 64 and 2016 for the mods, and as another commenter said: skins are also confirmed by the devs to be different slayers doing the same things in many timelines, and multiplayer they all meet in canon in their timelines, meaning each playthrough is canon to a different Slayer.

damn they did phobos dirty atleast the demons didn’t get him
Oh but they did.
Here’s a quote from 1993’s manual:
“A few hours ago, Mars received a garbled message from Phobos. "We require immediate military support. Something fraggin' evil is coming out of the Gateways! Computer systems have gone berserk!" It continues “You and your buddies, the only combat troop for fifty million miles were sent up pronto to Phobos.”
Plus, Phobos does die. Here’s a quote from Quake III:
“There, he was betrayed by superiors who thought they could learn more from watching him die than by studying his reports”
All that being said, we don’t really know how the arena functions.

I mean, Slayer wakes up in the demons lair like he's been trapped there, makes me think he's the first doom guy
He is. The Doom slayer and the original doom guy are the same character.

But there are still other human characters who are also very capable. However, none compare to the doom slayer at his peak. I’d wager he’s one of if not the most powerful living being in his entire universe.

Im pretty sure the TNT protagonist is just doomguy but promoted as a squad leader after what he did in hell on earth

POV when you and the boys all go to Mars and kill demons:
Everyone forgets that "Doomguy" was meant to be a nameless blank insert because Romero wanted YOU to decide who the Doomguy was.
"Doomguy" is also a term made by fans.
This is also why the D1 box art shows 2 similar marines because Doom was made with co-op in mind.
Doomslayer makes more sense if you think the main inspiration was less the Doom comic and moreso Death Battle: He exists for people that wanted Doomguy to be more powerfull (and also explains the Master Chief comparisons with the armor)
Phobos and Crash are Quake 3 skins and were created like 6 years after Doom 1.
Considering id's team at the time, don't think Romero or Hall had anything to do with them.

His lore implies death. The arena resurrects people all the time. He very easily could have died, which is what his description heavily implies. From the Quake III manual:
“An experienced veteran, he led the invasion of the demon-haunted tunnels of Phobos. There, he was betrayed by superiors who thought they could learn more from watching him die than by studying his reports.”

Remember the doom guys from doom 2
The only real benefit the various Doomguys have is that they are resistant to the hell energy immediately turning them into possessed zombie soldiers. It honestly makes me wonder how much more damage the various unnamed Space marines could have done if they A. didnt have to deal with as many zombie soldiers and B. Never got turned into bad guys themselves. Like imagine a version of doom where the pistol marines, the shotgunner sergeants and the chaingunners all worked WITH you to kill true demons.

They are though. It was confirmed by Hugo and in Eternal
Brings into mind Justice League: Crisis on Two Earths.

My understanding had been that Doom Slayer was the main Doomguy from 1 & 2 and is possibly also the same guy from 64.
I literally just made a video about this exact topic haha. It is the same guy in 64 as well.
@@Woodyisasexybeast I’ll watch it later and I thought that’s what you were kind of explaining here but I wanted to make sure I understood!
Nah, this is about OTHER humans that aren’t doom guy/the slayer. Just “doom guys” in the sense that they fought demons
@@Woodyisasexybeast ah I get it now I just mad confused myself lol
i thought phobis was named dacote (dies at the conclusion of this episode)
1. It’s canon via the multiverse but not part of either the classic universe or the new universe
Or
Now im curopus about that doom gal, crash
