    Update below:
    I was one of the OCS people. We did a condensed version: 1 mile, 6 chin-ups, 40lbs KB 100m, 10 down up IMTs 100m, sled 90lbs 100m, 1 mile. As you can see half the sled weight and a total of 2 miles. The people that tried and in good shape were about 17-20 minutes.
    I’m at pre ranger now and will be doing the full RPA 2.0 on Wednesday so I’ll be back with an update later this week.
    UPDATE:
    DISCLAIMER, I tracked it on my watch and got a total of 2.93 miles, others were +/- .02. Including the 300m for the KB, IMTs, skedco. Based on my pace and time I’d guess the run was about 2.75 total. We also did it without our tops on. Not sure if that’s standard or to prevent heat cats.
    I got mine in 25:20 so it’s doable even if the distance is to standard. Most people sat between 25-27. Skedco was definitely the worst part I would warp it on your waist to use your arms like you would run. Seemed to be the best method. From start of chin-ups to end skedco I was around 4:30 so if you can get it around there that leaves you with about a 7:30 pace between the 3 miles. Hope this helps

      Lol yo Dwyer, what’s up? Looks like I might be stuck with this after IBOLC, hopefully TAPC starts pushing our workouts this direction. I hope you make it on this go at Ranger
      But ya, I was at this condensed RPA with OCS as well, and it wasn’t super crazy, but honestly, 185 sked drag, with an extra mile at the end. I probably would’ve been dead

Doing this pt test went so much faster than an acft and others, and honestly very smoothly considering how many people tested this morning.

    If you were to run the 3 miles in 24 minutes total (8 min miles now tired and in full ocp) you would have 3 minutes left to do ALL the remaining events. Is this correct? This seems much more difficult to me than 5 miles in 40 minutes after some push ups and sit ups.

    • @hmrcyo
      @hmrcyo Год назад +20

      if you want a ranger tab you should be able to run 3 miles total at a pace faster than 8 minutes per mile. If you run it between 6 and 7 minute miles you have plenty of time to do the other events and still meet the 27 minute standard

  • @SlimeSquare
    @SlimeSquare Год назад +10

    This extremely pragmatic approach to a physical assessment is absolutely a move in the right direction. If the Army were smart, they would implement a scaled-down version for regular soldiers and replace the PFT/ACFT. Not only would this minimize complexity and confusion of having too many fitness tests, but every soldier would be working towards Ranger physical standards. I believe this will accomplish two things: assist Soldiers in scaling up to Ranger physical standards quicker, and likely produce better candidates for Ranger School and RASP.

      Doing it in uniform and boots will be the toughest thing for a number of people. The time standard seems doable, but it could be tricky for folks during that 2 mile run where they see that it took them slightly over/under 12 mins for the previous events and have to complete the 2 miler in boots in under 15 mins. You will literally have to smoke the non-running events to give yourself some breathing room.

  • @nitrometh42
    @nitrometh42 Год назад +5

    Be interesting to see how this shakes out at 27 minutes as per the event standards. I have a hunch that the time will get bumped up a few minutes or they will drop the 2 mile and make it a 1 mile run at the beginning and 1 mile at the end.

I'll be 59 in Oct, if I can do what this man is telling you ,you can do it but you better work your ass off without anyone chewing your ass . On top of that get your head right and keep it there. Lose your head, your bearing and your body will follow.

    I'm a big fan of this because it eliminates RIs sharpshooting people at random during the current RPA ("48... 48... 48... NO GO"). This new standard seems impartial.

  • @parawill7074
    @parawill7074 Год назад +4

    That time standard may get a few people. You see the events and you think you can smoke it, but it will depend on how well troops can transition from being damn good in PTs compared to combat uniform and boots. The biggest hurdle could very well be the uniform and taking it for granted that they will beat 27 mins easily.

    • @nitrometh42

    I love this. Personally I think it’s a great challenge and will be able to push our fitness levels to new standards. My concern is that, how would they consider implementing this when they are taking away the ACFT (potentially) due to finding? I understand it’s a mass scale thing, but I find it funny that they would take away the endurance event of the original RPFT when they bring back the original APFT. Just a thought

    • @iRavezilla

      I don’t think the ACFT is going anywhere, the SMA has stated he likes the fitness standards that previous SMA Grinston set in place regarding the ACFT & wants to continue hopefully. Even then it’ll take about 3 years before the new test is implemented if they do decide to scrap the ACFT.

    My IBOLC class did this last week and is was absolutely heinous. We had about a 20% pass rate and the group of dudes I’m with is in insane shape. The killer was by far the sled drag and the first 400-800m of the 2 mile. 180 on a sled drag is hard and the RTB commander told my class that it’s most likely piece of the pie that’s going to be altered. Most of us finished around 29m. The general strategy is to run a 6:30 for the first mile, try to finish all of the middle events by the 11m mark and just try to move your legs until you’re able to run again.

    I like not doing sit-ups. In fact, I like this so much that if the Army is still tweaking the ACFT I would prefer that they adopt this version of the RPA. Two points of contention I see is that every other branch has push-ups in their fitness test so this would be a radical departure from that, but RLTW right? The other thing is that I can already hear the old heads talking their shit about how standards have dropped.

    Does this mean for RASP and Ranger school you will no longer be tested on pushups or situps? Planning on leaving on option 40 in a couple months.

    • @aaronjackson6688
      @aaronjackson6688 Год назад

      That is correct. From my understanding, RASP and Ranger School are ran by two different organizations. RASP is organized by the 75th Ranger Regiment, and Ranger School is organized by the big Army.
      You will take an RPFT for RASP, which consists of T-pushups, a plank, a 5-mile run, and 6 chin ups. The changes to this PT test have already gone live, and it is a lot easier to pass than the old RPFT if you have trained for 80% standards on the ACFT.
      Upon completing RASP, you'll be sent to the regiment where your number one goal is training to pass Ranger school to get your tab. There, you'll be training for the test that Ranger School requires, which looks like it will be the RPA 2.0 sometime next year. Honestly, it just seems like the ACFT with extra weight.

    • @aaronjackson6688
      @aaronjackson6688 Год назад

      The T-pushup requirement is 41 iirc, whereas the old standard was 59 regular. Pushups also make the 3-5 second rushes easier.

    • @Optimus1234Prime
      @Optimus1234Prime Год назад

      @aaronjackson6688 So in pre rasp and rasp it will be the hand release pushups and plank? No regular pushups or situps? Just want to focus in on the main stuff I'm being tested on and not a thousand different things. Also situps fucking kill my back and the plank feels much better.

    • @aaronjackson6688
      @aaronjackson6688 Год назад +1

      @Optimus1234Prime That is correct. Those changes went live sometime this past March or April. The reasoning behind the change was because Rangers have about 4-5 different PT tests they need to be passing all of the time, so they remodeled the RPFT to be the same exercises that are conducted on the ACFT. Just like the old one was 80% standards on the APFT, the new RPFT is 80% standards on the ACFT.

      Yes, it does. The fact that they are in boots and combat uniform will also play a huge part in getting the non-running events done as soon as possible to save time without gassing before the 2 miler. You really have to be on your game taking that test and not take 27 mins for granted. It seems like a long time, but it isn't doing those events without breaks, so preparedness will be huge.

    Is this being tested on ABOLC and IBOLC students going to Ranger School or the entire class? You asked for opinions so let a 63-year old (who had a CrossFit L1 cert as recent as 2017), Class 4-83 guy opine: It's a sprint / burner WOD in the middle with a long cash-in and an hard cash-out. A beginner "Murph". I like the whole thing but think, as Rxd here, 27 minutes is a tough mark to hit, but per the comments below, if they are hitting it in 17-20 min. with a 1-mile cashout then adding an additional mile would be NBD at 8 min mile pace. The movements in the middle sound time-consuming but imagine 3X100-yard shuttle runs add the odd-implement element, and it's not as daunting. You'd gain a little active recovery / 4-count breathing between the 4 middle movements if you bust it on the opening run then see what you need to hit the 27 time cap. Thank you for coming to my TED Talk. 😀

    My 2 cents, for what's worth, 1 mile at the end not 2 miles and tighten up the time frame accordingly. How often are you going to run 2 miles in combat? Everything else seems legit. Just my thoughts. I know opinions are like @$$holes, everyone else's stinks.
