    • @Nanalyze

      What seemed most surprising was just how fast Starlink is expanding which lends credibility to that entire thesis. Good question you raise here about where the funding is coming for the Mars colony. Does anyone know how he plans to fund this? Would investors ever fund that? Where's the ROI coming from aside from potentially protecting against the extinction of mankind? You raise a good point.

And he has only one direction in mind. On the much longer term, they might go into asteroid mining which is much more convenient from Mars. But that's a far leap from now.

    In the long, long term I see a space company making money as it will help deploy into space when the world moves towards space exploration and money spent advances that goal, but how profitable this will be in any reasonable time horizon I don't know. It doesn't seem to be a high profit business in the next ten years or so. We need more of a Alien type of corporate space universe to make money where you have corporations deploying mining missions and colonization. Star Trek type of universe wouldn't be profitable at all. Neither would Star Wars. But the Alien universe was a corporate universe that best models what profitable space exploration would look like.

    • @Nanalyze
      @Nanalyze  14 дней назад

      Great comment. Someone else made a good comment along these lines that proposed Mush is simply going to spend all the profits going to Mars and what's the ROI on that? Who foots the bill? SpaceX shareholders? That said, Starlink has the potential to make a LOT of money which is a very interesting pivot that we see SpaceX making. How long before Starlink passes 80% of revenues for the company if it's moving as fast as it is? The entire thesis changes, though we also don't know how Musk has structured these companies.

    • @azulsimmons1040
      @azulsimmons1040 14 дней назад

      @@Nanalyze Starlink is interesting. I don't quite understand the competitive advantage Starlink has over other satellite providers, but it seems these other big satellite companies aren't moving to provide global internet service for some reason. They are far more specialized. Satellite internet did not seem like a big competitive advantage as it seems smartphones already do this to some degree and you have players like VSAT who do it for airlines. It seems Starlink has some competitive advantage over other satellite internet providers that is hard to see from the outside. Maybe it is a cost advantage or Space X will allow a vertical integration cost advantage that will be hard for competing companies to replicate as Musk's companies seem to support each other as they grow.

    • @Nanalyze
      @Nanalyze  13 дней назад

      Good comment. It is cost, technological capabilities, and volume. Musk now has 7,000 satellites with plans to go to 12,000. He is deploying satellite-to-cell technology and is able to provide broadband at a fraction of the cost using traditional wired access. It's truly astounding. This piece described the thesis in a nutshell: www.nanalyze.com/2019/12/impact-cheap-satellites-launches/

      @ Thanks for the articles. I like how Musk is building an integrated colonization machine. Tesla for robots, transportation, and energy management on another planet. Boring company for building underground facilities for living and transportation. Starlink for planetary communications and internet. Space X for deployment of satellites and transporting materials. Now he needs to solve the water and food problem and his companies can support planetary colonization.
