The only allowed comment on here should be that this cover is absolutely exceptional. I've never heard the original saxophone solo of Masato Honda so closely covered and perfectly executed. Thank you to everyone involved in this ensemble, you guys are amazing.
I just wanna say doing stacatto notes that high on a reed instrument, especially one like an alto sax where you rarely go that high to begin with, is fucking hard as hell. I wonder how many reeds he split doing that in practice.
That sounds like a terrifying way to get splinters in the mouth. Never heard of a single reed splitting from play before, I thought only double reeds like oboe and bassoon did that. But anyway, from experience, the highest and lowest notes on alto sax can be really temperamental.
so there's actually guitar in the original too! It's an acoustic and its mostly percussive ghost note strumming but you can hear it if you listen close in the right audio channel. It also doubles the bass part an octave up at the beginning.

@@togelz I fully agree with you that they put the fantasies in classical, there's no other words to say it. I'm guessing Darius is trying to get at "Put the swag in Jazz " or "Put the melodic in Metal". I kinda agree with the melodic in metal, because of the number of musicians that play, incorporate Metal into the Japanese bluesy(?) melody, but I would guess that metal fans wouldn't want to see it that way. Swag into Jazz... from at least what I know there's not too many Jazz musicians to claim the swag in Jazz quote, although I agree that there are many Japanese music in many different genres that I feel that are heavily influenced by Jazz than the music we have in the western world especially in the modern era. I dunno, that's just my view so... Anyways, whether it be over or under exaggerated, I really like your quote.
@@nettoyante2074 hello there, the reason why i say about Japanese musician puts melodic in Metal because there are a bunch of Japanese metal band / singer which their music are so melodic, such as Jupiter, Unlucky Morpheus, Light Bringer, Tears of tragedy, Baby Metal etc compared to your usual american metal band with your usual open E power chords and / or minor pentatonic scale and the reason why i say Japanese musician puts swag in jazz is because not only because the music is great, but also because through various medias like anime or game, they helps introduce / re-introduce jazz to younger generation and makes it cool for them, makes them want to learn it, i think that's happen not only in jazz, but also classical music as well, i won't surprised at all if a youngster says that he / she started to love Jazz because of Cowboy Bebob or Barracano and love claasical because of Shigatsu wa Kimi no uso (your lie in April)
@@togelz I personally agree with your comment on melodic in Metal, as I am a fan of Black Mages and the great game music that they create with the mix of metal, classical and fantasy. (Not so much of Baby Metal, I love the music, not so much the vocals and the young children dancing.) I think metal has evolved and has had a long lasting popularity within the Japanese music scene, so I really do agree with you. However, that being said, I do think that American and European Metal fans would be angry if we said that Japanese composers have put the melodic in metal, and that's all I wanted to say in the above comment. In terms of Jazz, I think Japan still has a long way to go. So Yes, I agree that the Japanese composers incorporate Jazz and spread them in various medias that younger generations will learn to may be start to love Jazz from. But No, because from what I have seen, majority of the Japanese audience has Jazz, Ska and Bossa Nova confused. (Jazz was very popular during my parent's generations, so I think the older generations are aware of the difference and are actually fans of Jazz, but in terms of the younger generations, we have a long way to go.) There are new animes like Kemono Friends 1 and 2, which the music is composed by an artist who is Jazz influenced, so I'm sure many things are changing in the Japanese music scene on a daily basis. And hopefully one day, we can proudly say that Japanese composers have put the swag in Jazz, but at this point I would sadly have to disagree with you on that part. I think you have the Japanese culture slightly confused, but in terms of classical music, Japanese children have far more knowledge of classical music than children in... let's say North America, because Europe is a whole another story when it comes to classical. But from what I have seen, Japanese people recognize and know the names of various classical compositions, when compared to North Americans. Most Japanese children do not go into classical music through Anime, it's more from the education system and from after school programs. (Piano ranks in the top 3 most popular after school learning for young children) I'm certain that many children would be inspired and learn to love classical music from Animes like Shigatsu wa Kimi no uso, or Nodame Cantabile, but that's not really their entry point to classic music, as most children already have the basics down. Anyways, I apologize for the long response, but I just want you to know that I do love your quote, I just can't fully agree with you on everything that you said. Thanks

Astounding. Made me cry. You can tell the love and delight each person has for the music and how they just BREATHE it.
I've watched a few live covers of this masterpiece and you can tell these guys are fans. Other jazz musicians take the solo and make it their own which is cool. This guy, however, understood the importance of staying true to the original while flexing his sax muscles. Thanks for this guys...it made my year!
i feel like no one is giving the Trombone enough credit, guys damn good
toby is the man!
He is a bit too quiet tho
Please come to San Japan out here in San Antonio!!! You guys are so epic!!! If you do ever decide, Tacos. Think about it. We have Tacos to give. This is our currency.
Luis Lopez You're toying with my DREAMS, Luis. 😭
Seriously, thanks!

I second this! I would go even though I was taking a break from cons until 2020 JUST for y’all!
Adam Neely sent me here. Noice!

I'd love to see some covers of Samurai Champloo's soundtrack - you'd kill it!!!
Especially would love to see shiki no uta.
@@ChronosVthousand Completely agree! Would totally rival my love for the Nujabes cover.
@@samnoodlethang Shiki no Uta is originally by Nujabes. I assume you're thinking of the JBird cover*. The title to that one says "(Nujabes cover)", but they mean that it's a cover of his song, not a cover by him. I could understand the confusion though, if you're not familiar with Nujabes.

3:21 nailed it - as good as the original solo!!
Best Tank! cover ever!!
This song never gets old..still get chills when I hear the intro of the song
a lot of live covers of this song but you can tell when theres real emotion and feelings put into it. great job!
The only allowed comment on here should be that this cover is absolutely exceptional. I've never heard the original saxophone solo of Masato Honda so closely covered and perfectly executed. Thank you to everyone involved in this ensemble, you guys are amazing.
Every single person on that stage is an incredible musician. It's a display of pure, unadulterated badassery.
This will make your lips feel like their gonna explode as a trumpet player
Phenomenal work. Everyone's on point
Well, this guy clearly was running out of chops, likely before this song started

NOW THAT'S SOME GOOD SHIT! (I'm currently learning how to play it on bass, at least what can be played on bass)
Anything can be played on any instrument if you do it right
Coincidence I was just thinking about you guys making a cover of Tank! While in band class and I got the notification on my phone.
Is that a VA-11 HALL-A profile pic I see?
literally the best version of this on RUclips and it seems to just be nerdy fan boys at some local con. awesome!
こんなん盛り上がるに決まってらーなー🎶
Loved it, the guitar was a nice addition that worked really well
so there's actually guitar in the original too! It's an acoustic and its mostly percussive ghost note strumming but you can hear it if you listen close in the right audio channel. It also doubles the bass part an octave up at the beginning.
I giggle so much when I see musicians like that sax player groove with their performance cause you know DAMN well they're not playing around when their body becomes one with their instrument!!!
F**kin' brilliant job, you all!
This is arguably the best cover of Tank on RUclips
yikes, really?? That's a shame lmao
Ive watched a lot performances of this song on youtube and to this day, no one else performs it like they mean like you guys do! everyone always look serious but you guys actually enjoy it and listening to you guys play it always makes me wanna move!!
I'll see you in 7 years when the youtube algorithm sends us back and this song is still the most slammin' anime theme OF ALL TIME
My fucking god what a beast.
Also all three trumpets and trombone sounded just like the original. Very professional
Netflix kept Tank for the Cowboy Bebop intro… and it brought me back here. 💪🏽
Damn i got shivers down my back
THAT GUY ON SAX BRINGS ALL THE GOOD VIBES. I can't stop replaying that solo!
this is actually the best video of all time
I got chills from this. The energy is unbelievable!
I really like how the sax player is so upbeat and dancing the entire time... He must have been having so much fun
The electric bass adds a crunch to the sound that I am digging a huge amount
Major props to everyone but especially the sax for nailing it better than everyone else, and also to that front trumpets who is certainly giving 120% for this performance
Everyone on that stage seemed to pour their very hearts and souls into this cover.
You guys nailed it! The sax player nice solo and not fking up both screams at 1:50 and 3:20 this GOOD LIVE?!?!? YOU ARE A BEAST!!!
This is the power of bebop on everyone. You can see how excited and much fun the band playing it is having, and the reaction the audience gives as soon as they hear what’s coming. Truly a great cover and song and anime series
Please come to anime expo in los angeles some day ahhhhh!!!
Wouldn't that be a dream! We need more people like you helping to spread the word! 🙏🙌
ComicCon pls
After watching a lot of covers of this song, even the 2020 SEATBELTS official version, this guy 3:20 is the only one doing it exactly as the original =)!!!
The saxophone finishing is always the best!!
This had me smilling ear to ear like a goofball the whole way through. That was amazing from start to finish and the sax player absolutely nailed the ending. Perfect 10/10!
Somebody call a judge cause they just did that song justice!
Japanese composers :
Put the swag in Jazz
Put the melodic in Metal
Put the fantasies in classical
Put the twist in pop
andri marpaung lets not get ahead of our selves here
@@darius5592 you mean what?,...
@@togelz I fully agree with you that they put the fantasies in classical, there's no other words to say it.
I'm guessing Darius is trying to get at "Put the swag in Jazz
" or "Put the melodic in Metal".
I kinda agree with the melodic in metal, because of the number of musicians that play, incorporate Metal into the Japanese bluesy(?) melody,
but I would guess that metal fans wouldn't want to see it that way.
@@nettoyante2074 hello there, the reason why i say about Japanese musician puts melodic in Metal because there are a bunch of Japanese metal band / singer which their music are so melodic, such as Jupiter, Unlucky Morpheus, Light Bringer, Tears of tragedy, Baby Metal etc compared to your usual american metal band with your usual open E power chords and / or minor pentatonic scale
and the reason why i say Japanese musician puts swag in jazz is because not only because the music is great, but also because through various medias like anime or game, they helps introduce / re-introduce jazz to younger generation and makes it cool for them, makes them want to learn it, i think that's happen not only in jazz, but also classical music as well, i won't surprised at all if a youngster says that he / she started to love Jazz because of Cowboy Bebob or Barracano and love claasical because of Shigatsu wa Kimi no uso (your lie in April)
(Jazz was very popular during my parent's generations, so I think the older generations are aware of the difference and are actually fans of Jazz, but in terms of the younger generations, we have a long way to go.)
There are new animes like Kemono Friends 1 and 2, which the music is composed by an artist who is Jazz influenced, so I'm sure many things are changing in the Japanese music scene on a daily basis.
(Piano ranks in the top 3 most popular after school learning for young children)
I'm certain that many children would be inspired and learn to love classical music from Animes like Shigatsu wa Kimi no uso, or Nodame Cantabile, but that's not really their entry point to classic music, as most children already have the basics down.
Anyways, I apologize for the long response, but I just want you to know that I do love your quote, I just can't fully agree with you on everything that you said.
Thanks
Good Lort! Maybe one of the best Tank covers yet. Tank covers are "a thing" for me and I've seen a TON of them. This crew is really among the best. That sax solo is wanted for murder. Top freaking shelf!
Goosebumps from start to finish
I watched this video when it was first uploaded and I have come back to it at least 10 times
Guys, y’all slayed it! I have seen a lot of vids and heard a lot of bands cover this tune, but a lot of them lack the energy and vibe of the original. You guys nailed that aspect 10/10 dead on! Drummer and bassist, that pocket was so tight it would have squeezed two dimes and a nickel out of a quarter!😂
And Pat, I wish I could shake your hand after that solo! Covering Masato’s solo from the OST note for note; absolutely brilliant! The shear amount of energy you gave it made it just that much better.
Big kudos guys! Always keeping my eyes and ears open for more!
Not sure I've ever heard a better recording of Tank! And the energy on stage, damn!
It’s amazing how 10 notes can bring so much joy
3:20 the sax followed by my dude all the way on the right hitting the high note is so perfect
holy fucking shit they KILLED it
Love the horns on this. Right on the spot! Just missing a sprinkle of bongos. But damn well perfect sax. 🤘
Didn’t realize they were missing bongos until you said this but yes, that would’ve been a great addition and made this cover truly exceptional.
Literally have the biggest smile on my face.
I've never been compelled to go to an Anime convention whatsoever, but man I would have given a kidney to see this live.
I love the way they loosen up and start to groove more as they play the song out
