    Reason for the antenna is fcc states that any gmrs HT that can transmit data has to have a non removable antenna. I believe the reason why, and i may be wrong….. is because youre sending the gps data out to anyone within your HT’s range on that frequency when you key up with gps enabled. I think the non removable antenna is a way to limit the range of this transmission of data so that you arent transmitting out to extended users. A phone is a different animal altogether bc when you talk or text, its generally from your phone to a person of your choosing. You’re not necessarily broadcasting that info to everyone around you. Ive had the wouxun kg-q10g for a bit over a month and im loving it. Great radio and really powerful with impressive range even with the stock non removable antenna.

      This is my understanding. But the antenna may just be glued like some other manufacturers do with data capable GMRS radios.

      Interesting he gave with that thought, but I can see where that would be possible. Still wish they would let us make the decision and not treat people like kids.

      @@stevemcbride3206 from what ive seen it is glued or has threadlock on it. Ive seen where people said they gave it a good twist and it came off….. but it specifies that doing that voids the warranty, so theres that.

      @UnlimitedOptions86 Since I'm used to changing antennas, I "accidentally" twisted the antenna and it came off. It was just a mild sticky glue used and the antenna was just fine. I can now switch antenna and I don't use the GPS function anyway. 😁

      There's nothing in the FCC rules that state that you have to use fixed antennas for GMRS. FRS has the fixed antenna requirement. I would get one and break the Loctite and put a SignalStick on it, since my personal testing shows that those have good SWR on GMRS and 70cm.

    I don't have that particular model, but see if there's a little rubber ring on the antenna itself near the base that can flip up and see if there's a little screw that tightens it down so that the antenna cannot be unscrewed unless the little screw is loosened

      I actually got it off one day at work playing with it. The radio had red Loctite holding it on there and me wiggling it finally got Loctite to break free thanks for he information

    I have two of those radios, I think the speaker sucks. IMO. Not sure if it's because it's waterproof or what. But it's almost useless if you need to have it turned up. The speakers starts peaking around half volume .

    My radio has removable antennas. It came with two, one for 2m, 70cm and one for 220 and 6. They screwed off and on just like any other radio.

      Sounds like you bought the amateur version of the radio not the gmrs one. Thanks for watching

    I think there is a screw Audrey little rubber ring on it antenna you have to loosen it up and then antenna will screw off check and see if I'm not wrong. 73 K4BWN/WRQL385

      I just checked there is no screw, the guy I talked with said it was glued. I’m sure I could get it off but it’s probably not worth it, thanks for watching

    Just twist it off with pliers and put on a better antenna. Frustrating, but it is what it is.

    • @JDubbsadventure
      @JDubbsadventure  8 месяцев назад +1

      I may give it a try. I wish they wouldn’t have done that but it’s whatever

      @@JDubbsadventure Ya, I’m not sure what they are currently using, I believe maybe a red loctite, which is silly. You’ll likely damage the stock antenna while removing it. Nagoya 701g or a Smiley antenna will be a nice upgrade. I’m under the impression that Wouxuns quality control on their antennas is so so anyways.
