I'm soon to be 74 and my grandpa passed away in 1959. He raised me and made me the person I am today. It's many years since I've heard Randy sing this song, but I found it on YT today. Memories came back in an instant. Teared up. Love Randys voice.
Good story! Hope you are doing ok now... I've been listening to Randy Travis for years. He is great. He can only listen to people that play his music now. That because he had a stroke years ago.. May God bless Randy Travis!
My Dad passed away in July of 2016, and this was played at his funeral from his grands and great grands. He was the anchor of our family and we loved him dearly. This is a most beautiful tribute on Randy Travis' part to the man who was his GREAT grandfather ("...my mama's daddy was his oldest son...") whom Randy was privileged to have known. I too was so privileged, and the day my great-grandfather died was to that time the saddest day in my young life.
I lived with my great grandfather from the time I was 6 until I was 12. He got to where he couldn't walk. My grandparents took him and my brother and I He died when I was 14. 62 now......still miss him
My grandpa is still here thanks to a sweet man and his lung transplant thank you so much for giving my family so much more time with him sir your an angle
I get tears in my eyes whenever I hear this song. My grandfather raised me from an infant to age 14. Iloved him so much and yes, how I cried the day HE died. For me, he DID walk on water!

My grandfather is probably dying within the next few months, and this song is very good at summarizing my high esteem for him. Please, whoever sees this, say a prayer for his wellbeing. Thank you, God bless 🙏
I am a 77 year old Grandfather with to beautiful Granddaughters, age 22 and 19. Their isn't enough words in English language to express my love for them. The great thing is they feel the same way about their Grandfather and their Grandmother. We thank God every day fot bringing these beautiful young women into our lives!!!
that's really nice to hear. I wasn't emotionally connected to my grandparents. I don't think I ever heard anything from them that I was valued by them. I didn't feel I particularly mattered to them. I celebrate when I hear of or see something different.
Probably one of the most emotional songs EVER. Nobody can make a song the way Randy does. He's the best. Such emotion in his voice. Each song sounds like he's singing directly to you.
I can't help but cry when I hear this song... My grandfather was the greatest man I ever knew... he was my best friend. Even when he got sick I never really believed that he would die... because I truly did think that he walked on water. I spent every second with him in the hospice when the doctors gave up... I wanted to say so much... but neither one of us could say a single word. I'd give anything to have one more day to say the things that I couldn't. I held his hand and cried like a child as he took his last breath... I said it was ok for him to let go...but everything inside of me was begging him not to. I HATE that death is such a big part of life... I miss my friend more than words could ever express...
I think this is common when there is a close bond. My son literally lifted my mother (unconscious) over his head and prayed for her to get well. She had been sick and recovered so many times and he never left her side. He was 38 and cried then and still does if he thinks about her.
Lost my momma last April , only 24 my oldest son is 3 . I fight too keep her memory alive wether my father wants it forgotten or not . Kick them shoes off one last time and walk with Jesus I’ll see you in your mansion soon enough momma ❤
My Grandpa was my 1st love of my life. Well my Dad was my 1st too. Grandpa passed when I was 8, Dad when I was 19.I’m 70 now but I thank the Lord I was privileged to have them.
Those are such lovely memories and I wish I had some of my own. I'm a great grandma now, but there was always something missing. Now I know what it was. Grandpa

To my grandfather. Thank you. For you rescued me when no one else could have. My best friend. My closest confidant. We could always figure anything out together. You made my time on earth here so worthwhile in such a meaningful way.
Mine grandfather's were worthless but I am 72 and making sure my grandkids are unconditionally loved. You are a lucky man or woman. I hope you get my point
it’s 2020 and in 3 months my grandpa turns 70. Even though he is considered my step grandpa he treats me like his own son. And now that i’m 15 i haven’t taken account for how much he really loves me. I’ve been a little shit my whole life and i’ve never cried so much as i have tonight. You have that special relationship with that one special person. And I’m still learning. I’m gonna cry so much the day he passes but at least I can say that I love him and that I thank him for creating the little man that’s standing next to his casket
you sound very wise. .....just love them while they are here..Believe me no matter how you behaved ..he will always love you...it’s never too late to tell him how much he means to you...Grand pas love unconditionally....you are human and it doesn’t matter if they are blood ..My. daddy just passed in Feb..at 91..my brother and I were both adopted as babies....My parents raised me,loved me, helped me....and although we didn’t have the same DNA ....my dad was my dad. ...Good luck.
My grandfather was in the invasion of Normandy and the battle of the bulge. He was and is my hero. I thought he walked on water. James R Shores lives in me forever.
Sorry to hear tour loss. I'm 53 mine passed away in 1988 I was 17 then. And his brother passed away 6 months after him. It was to much for my family, and everyone went thier own ways to deal with the losses on thier own. My family was never thier when I needed them at the time I needed them the most. I've never been able to deal with it, and to this day still leaves a huge hole and hurt that's never went away. I hope you well on your journey and send prayers for you and your family.
My grandfather did walk on water. Lost him at 13 and now I'm in my 40s and I've never met a man as good as my grandpa, never found anybody who got me like he did either.
My Grandpa was an old farmer here in Michigan. Besides my daddy, I thought he was the greatest man on earth. He was born in 1908 and passed in 1994. I miss him every single day.
I have a young grandson who adores me (and me, him)...but when grandpa walks in with me, he will run with arms open wide hollaring...Paw Paw! Paw Paw loves him too. What a blessing our grandies are.
Miss you grandpa so much I remember you let me sit on your lap when you were fighting cancer all the tubes you had you did not care grandpa give William Wayne a big hug for me he has the Cummins name love you grandpa so much I know you are my angel😢
Mamaw and Papaw both left us some 42 years ago. At times, I can still hear their voices, hear their laughs and fell their hugs. Here I sit now as an older man with grandkids of my own. I hope and pray that I would be the kind of granddaddy to them that Papaw was to me. Thank you, Randy Travis, for songs like this that make us smile from the memories you share in this song.
I am a grown man. I cried the day my grandpa died. To this day hearing this song, sometimes I still break down. He was a hero, a legend, in more way than one.
My grampa is in his last breaths that's what the doctors are saying.....my mom who's in heaven already waiting for her dad....he was a cowboy and a hard worker....worked till he was 80....and always enjoying his grandkids company.....he helped me through life when I was struggling.... his stories are priceless....grandparents are gold when it comes to advice.....so treasure them and hear their stories before their gone....
I hope when i have grandkids that they talk about me the way that you do your grandpa...i'd say he is a lucky man. Thats a good place to be in the end.
Bryant Chavira I know I sure miss hearing stories from my great grandpa about like wwii how he wasn’t aloud in the two city we bombed cause of all the burnt up people and also the a bomb gases
@Sara Llewellyn Sara, my name is Donald Mayer and I live in Coply Pennsylvania. I want you to know I really care because I suffered the loss of my wife in December of 2016. We were married 28 years. I'm 62 years old and have been blind since birth. I will be more than glad to communicate with you if you want to do that. Sara, I really care!
this is exactly what a child is supposed to think about their grandparents.. so everyone remember if you are one or will be one to show love just as this song expresses. because your memory is what's left when your gone. love your children so much, so that they can love theirs... have a wonderful day all.
I too have been guilty and cannot tell you why, my wife met him at Walmart in Greensboro……. And she said he was the perfect gentleman….. and he sang this occupela Or whatever the word is no instruments
My dad died Easter Sunday, 1983 and I had my 47th birthday that same January; believe me, it hurts at any age. took me some years to get the color back in my life. I thought he pretty close to perfect too. A nephew still has his boots and Stetson.
I loved you Papaw,You made It to Heaven after living to be one hundred and three,Ive never knew anyone that compared to you Papaw.I love you forever.Mark.
Thank you for the video, I'm 65 now but when I was 7 years old that's when the last time I saw my grandfather I swear my memories he looked just like the man in this video I don't remember too much about him what I do remember you would give me an Eskimo pie and a silver dollar
My only Grandfather was a old Country Man from Alabama....grew up through the 20s ,30s,40,50s 60s ,and retired in the 70s ...Taught me about Morals ,Honor ,Keep Your Word , be a Southern Gentlemen , don't Disgrace the Family Name ....and so very much more ....miss him everyday ....Love you Granddaddy ...till we see each other again...May the Circle Be Unbroken ...
This song, and "Deeper than the Holler" make me cry. My grandfather died when I was 16, and my sister loved "Deeper than the Holler." We both bawled our eyes out.
My 'dad' was not my bio dad, and never worked on a farm, but a steel mill as a boilermaker. I thought he walked on water. It takes a great man to except 2 little girls as his own, and treat them no different than his son and daughter who came later in the marriage. This good man took good care of us till we left home. And was there when we needed help after. Never lifting his hand to us, even though he himself came from an home with a abusive father. Cycles can be broken. I cried harder at his funeral than my Bio Dads who I never really knew. Meet you inside the Eastern Gate Dad.
Beautiful. My husband treats my son and loves him equally the same as he does our daughter so I know what u mean. I thank God for the man I married the second time as I was married before to an abusive man. My son loves him like he was his bio dad. They have a wonderful bond.
This song could have been written about my grandfather! Every time I hear this it reminds me of my grandpa who was a real life cowboy and lifelong farmer/rancher. He was the real deal. When young in the early 1900s he rode a horse, and he worked cattle on a ranch most of his life. I remember when I was a little boy he would be sitting on the porch and he would call me over. He would make me a “pony” out of a broom handle with a bit of rope for the reins and tell me to keep it at a trot! He was good with a gun and he always carried a revolver on the ranch for protection. He taught me how to hunt, fish and work the land. He was an still is my hero. He taught me how to live my life with integrity and how to appreciate family and friends. We need more heroes like these old timers!
I don't know what to say, the song and lyrics make me wish I was Southern. Both my grandfathers passed away before I was born, and the song made me cry like a baby.
I sang this song at our family reunion and several people were crying. When I was done , everyone wanted to know who sang the song and I told them, " one of the best country and western artists Randy Travis!"
How are you doing? Nice meeting you here. I appreciate you for being a great fan, it really means a lot to me. I sincerely hope you never stop listening to my music 🎼
I'm fixing to be 37 years old on the 21st of this month. And this song still gets me in a spot that I've put away for a long time. I think of my papa for I know I'll see him again one day.
This song by Randy reminds me of my grandfather. Everytime I hear it I cry, cause I thought he walked on water. Randy, thank you for recording this. It touches me deeply. And may God bless you with all you are going through.
My song for my beloved grandpa, the only man who ever truly loved me unconditionally. He passed away 32 years ago today and I still think of him every single day. Grandpa, you were a man's man, and I idolized you ever since I can remember. I miss you so much. Wish we got more time together than we did, but it was awesome while we had it. ❤ AJB ❤
That never go away ,and when you get to hear a remorseful song like this one it just feels good to let out a few more tears now and then. Thanks Randy.
I remember my mom telling me that the first word I attempted to say sounded like "Bamca". My parents had no idea what I was trying to say; until we went to visit my Grandpa. I come back to this song whenever I need some comfort, and when I need to cry for a bit.
My husband is native, he tells me of his grandpas on both sides, they are so similar to the grandpa in this song. His grandpa and great grandpas were his greatest memories of the older generation. We are both grandparents and have one grandson. Hope we can be as influential to our grand kids and great grandkids. we lost our son yesterday, so we are very sad. May the great spirit look over our son, and his children, as we will do our best to take care of them. We are from South Dakota and are both Sioux. We will survive.

I cry because reminds me of my father he was a great man. Without him i wouldn't be the man i am
Beautiful ❤
I have a young grandson who adores me (and me, him)...but when grandpa walks in with me, he will run with arms open wide hollaring...Paw Paw! Paw Paw loves him too. What a blessing our grandies are.
Thank you, through my severe depression in the Army Randy Travis has helped me through. I love his songs
Thank you for yr service may god bless you and heal u.. Praying for you even thou idk you
I hope you are well. ❤️
My all-time favorite from Randy. God bless you brother. You made this world a better place.
AMEN 🙏

I miss you Uncle Jack Miles ❤
This Is My Song To My Daddy
My grampa is in his last breaths that's what the doctors are saying.....my mom who's in heaven already waiting for her dad....he was a cowboy and a hard worker....worked till he was 80....and always enjoying his grandkids company.....he helped me through life when I was struggling.... his stories are priceless....grandparents are gold when it comes to advice.....so treasure them and hear their stories before their gone....

Your opinion counts like everyone elses, just saying
I never had a grandfather. So I come here to read and to live vicariously through the comments. Thanks everyone.
this is exactly what a child is supposed to think about their grandparents.. so everyone remember if you are one or will be one to show love just as this song expresses. because your memory is what's left when your gone. love your children so much, so that they can love theirs... have a wonderful day all.

im sorry to hear that
My dad died Easter Sunday, 1983 and I had my 47th birthday that same January; believe me, it hurts at any age. took me some years to get the color back in my life. I thought he pretty close to perfect too. A nephew still has his boots and Stetson.
I'm so sorry. :(
So sorry you lost your dad
I'm with ya my dad passed in 1977 I was 13 I cherished the ground he walked on !

Thank you for the video, I'm 65 now but when I was 7 years old that's when the last time I saw my grandfather I swear my memories he looked just like the man in this video I don't remember too much about him what I do remember you would give me an Eskimo pie and a silver dollar

Amen
Cried the entire song...with happiness...And here I thought only Moses could walk on water...I am the fool..
I think it's Jesus that walked on water
One of the best Entertainers We ever had.
This song always reminds me of my mom because she used to say that alot. I thought she was pretty special. They must be having fun in heaven, right.
Debra Salamone I think they are, along with my late husband and 2 children.
You were truly blessed.
One of the greatest voices that I've heard in my life ❤
I also cry every time I hear this song. Thought and still do that my dad walked on water. Miss you dad.
This is most likely my favorite song by Mr.Travis. He was so young then
I don't know what to say, the song and lyrics make me wish I was Southern.
Sad so sorry for your lost
@@TheChrisJanson1 never will
They played this at my grandpas funeral today. Beautiful song ❤️. RIP.
Me to I picked it
I'm fixing to be 37 years old on the 21st of this month. And this song still gets me in a spot that I've put away for a long time. I think of my papa for I know I'll see him again one day.
My papaw passed away before I was born. But when I hear stories about him. I think of this
Every time I hear this song it reminds me of my grandpa. I miss every day
My Grandpa was my first Hero and will always be. 🙏🏻 RIP 💙🥲
This song by Randy reminds me of my grandfather. Everytime I hear it I cry, cause I thought he walked on water. Randy, thank you for recording this. It touches me deeply. And may God bless you with all you are going through.
I can never sing through this whole song. Get so teary eyed and the voice quivers
I can barely listen to it with out crying
The Greatest man I ever man I ever new my Grandfather Mr. Deed Hale
I love you pawpaw till we meet again ❤️
My song for my beloved grandpa, the only man who ever truly loved me unconditionally. He passed away 32 years ago today and I still think of him every single day. Grandpa, you were a man's man, and I idolized you ever since I can remember. I miss you so much. Wish we got more time together than we did, but it was awesome while we had it. ❤ AJB ❤
Hello beautiful
Hi babe@@mikewilliams172
This song brings tears every time I hear it. I think of my Dad and realize after 46 years I'm still not through crying that he's gone.
Jimmy Stclair Amen brother
I know what you mean!
