I've been looking for a lecture like this for hours on youtube...I'm gonna be watching all of your videos now to study for my hematology class! Thank you so much!! :)
I was hospitalised with this exact illness at age three. Warm blood transfusion (they did the best they could with a three year old, Barney included) RD mom, the whole nine yards. Thirty, flirty, and thriving now. Watch out. Edit: I am Canadian
At 4:12 you seem to have switched the description of intravascular and extravascular hemolysis. It is extravascular hemolysis that takes place in the liver and spleen. While intravascular hemolysis occurs in the blood vessels themselves.
My dog has this, it’s called Immune Mediated Hemolytic Anemia in veterinary medicine. She was diagnosed 9 months ago (and was in terrible crisis, almost died). In treatment since (medications) and doing reasonably well! Still sick, but surviving and happy
When you indicate that Erythrocytes become warm or cold and trigger the IgG or IgM antibodies to bind to them, what causes that temperature factor to begin with? Are those some kind of extreme abnormal temp changes that are happening with the RBC's due to those various conditions you listed like the Lupus etc?
Great information! My 4 year old boy has microscopic blood in his urine for more than a year, under the microscop there are no RBC. This prompts me to look into intravascular hemolysis, though his CBC has been normal. Is there a chronic form of hemolysis that cause microscopic hemoglobinuria without other symptoms?
@@sanjayzankat6250 Thanks for replying.. How did you find out she has the condition? Thalassemia minor supposed to be mild with little or no symptoms right?
Cold AHA is intravascular but he did mix up the description of what is intravascular. As you have correctly stated sequestered by liver and spleen is extravascular hemolysis which occurs in Warm AHA. While Cold AHA is preferentially intravascular.
Hello doctor, My daughter is only 14 years old and her hands and feet are cold. I did some blood tests. Her ferratin level and vitamin d is low. What's your suggestion?

There's a correction at 4:34, Cold AHA is extravascular (sequestered by liver and spleen), you made a typo (intravascular)
