Hey everyone! Here is my reaction/review for season 4, episode 13. So much for getting through an ep without crying! Izuku was AMAZING in this ep! I found the differences in his and Chisaki's perspectives so interesting. The way he was using OFA with Eri's quirk/mutation though....!! And that MOMENT...the music, the imagery, it was PERFECT! Dang, I'm tearing up just writing about it! PLUS ULTRA!!!! Enjoy! ~ KRH
You chose the wrong episode to try this no-crying challenge xD
Maika and the next one is a bad idea too XD
I didn't cried lel, I cried in All might vs AFO. But not in that ep
@@juanmanuellopez1382 the next one is almost impossible
Lol
OH FUCK NO!!!!
Im going to try not to cry
Ost MIght+U: Hold my beer

don't worry! i'm ok!
This episode is practically a movie it's so well done. They even used the song from the upcoming movie in this which is the most beautiful scene as Eri decides she's going to let them save her. All after she saw Mirio's cape which inspired her, it's an amazing moment.
Khayman77 makes me excited for the Heroes Rising movie
I literally cant pass the scene where he gets Eri without crying
Same Here Fam. Its shows, that youa re Human ^^

Hobo J damn let a nigga be emotional
i can.
Was that... All for One’s theme playing when Deku kicked Chisaki’s ass? That’s... terrifying, and strangely appropriate.
Yep. When I first watched the scene with that music, I thought it could have been better. But after rewatching it, yeah it fits. It's Deku displaying overwhelming power and striking fear inti Chisaki after all.
I think its to show how intimidating deku is as a hero to villains and its to be a parallel of afo
Both heroes and villains will become terrifying in future seasons... it will be glorious
Im still waiting for the moment when Deku actually becomes more like the hero he admires, All Might. When he can beat a villain and smile, ill cry.
Eri Quirk: CTRL+Z
GENIUS!!
HAHAHAHAHAHA so truee!!
HAHAHAHAH
Overhaul's quirk: CTRL +X, CTRL+V
Mirio: Noclip
Izuku: Eri can’t kill me if I kill myself faster!
*Proceeds to use 100%*
In all seriousness, Izuku was killing himself the entire fight. Whenever he uses 100% his arms become a bloody, bruised and broken mess.
Imagine that without Eri, a pretty gruesome sight for sure. Not to mention the scene didn’t tell us how much pain he was going through doing that. The constant destruction of his body then being rewound a moment later by Eri. All without a single tear or cry of pain by Izuku.
If that doesn’t speak wonders of his resolve to save Eri and be a Hero, nothing does.
Underrated
deku says that its rewinding before he even felt the pain
Courtland Kurre I think that was more for Eri’s sake then anything cause at the end of the fight he just sort of breaks down in agony.
@@zachzimmer7459 that's cause she almost killed him.
In season 2 they explain it, it was because of the adrenaline that he wasn't feeling the pain
Real talk though: this arc hit me hard thinking that Eri is 6, just a year older than my little girl and you realise how young, and vulnerable she is. Like it's awful what she went through regardless of how old she is but the idea that a kid who's barely out of nursery/kintergarden age and she's known this horror for years to the point she's normalised to it.
I was thinking about this just the other day. My daughter is 5 years old and I tried to imagine her going through what Eri has gone through for 3 years. The horror I felt.... omg
She already knew the taste of death, and taste it regularly
At the age of 6
But horikoshi will outdo this dark theme
Yeah. "Kids stuff" my ass- it takes guts as an author to terrify the adults with something like this. And skill to do so in a way that only hurts the adult fans, not the kids.
Why reading the manga, this arc started to give me nightmares... just, how dark it got.
but man does it make what shigaraki does to overhaul so satishfying to see a selfish no morals true villian see everything he is and worked for and cared about destoryed lost to a villian whos friend he kill and tried to treat like a pawn its one of the times i can say the villian dished out the best possible justice
Hime: I'm going to try not to cry.
Me: Oh, we don't do that here.
Edit: BTW the song is Might+U, a song from the movie. I teared up so much for that scene.
I can’t wait to hear that song when the movie’s release!
And, there's a part in the music lyrics which goes "not all for one but one for all"
Might u is Just awesome
was gonna say, this aint the episode to not cry on xD
The movie comes to theatres next week for my city and I'm excited
Welp... THE MOVIE WAS FUCKIN AMAZING
"My goal for today is to get through one episode of MHA without crying"
:: takes a hit straight from the bottle and cheers ::
Her: “I’m not going to cry this episode”
Everyone who’s watched it: “oh honey.... you’re going to fail.”
Night eye smiling because hes just so happy he didnt give all might a death sentence
Eri isn't just the reason deku CAN use 100% with no repercussions, she's the reason he HAS to. Remember, hes going all out not only to guarantee that he beats overhaul, but because going all out is the only way to outrun her power rewinding him. If he were to stop, he would surely disappear.
Also the anime skipped over the explanation behind Chisaki’s plague doctor theme. He believes that quirk factors actually originated as a gene mutation caused by a plague spread by rats about 150- 200 years prior to the series (Quirks have been around for 5 generations and a generation is roughly 25-30 years). It’s kinda lame how they skipped it because the Rat is used pretty Symbolically throughout the rest of the series.
A generation is usually 18-20 years IRL here. Unless that time frame was specifically to the shows timeframe.
quirks have been around for ten generations, all for ones brother (first user of one for all) was born around when quirks first started popping up, and there are nine one for all users
The past users of one-for-all may not have held the power for a generation each. All Might held it for a while, but Nana was young when she passed it on.
Oh wowww i never knew that quirks originated in Rats, this explains Nezu being a sentient animal, hes probably some 5th generation hypermutant rat.
@@WolfSon26 It's just one of the many hypotheses, and Chisaki is just one of the believers.
Eri's quirk might have won Deku this battle... but it's worth remembering that she has no control whatsoever (Chisaki never had the slightest interest in training her, and even led her to believe her quirk was a curse)... Deku was walking a very thin tightrope the whole time... if he'd gone just a bit too far he'd have shattered all his bones (and possibly killed Eri in the process), if he hadn't gone far enough _"zygote"_ wouldn't be just an endearing term All Might and Gran Torino refer him with.
Eri's quirk _does_ have an awesome potential, but it'll take a lot of training... and that's supposing she can even overcome all the years of Chisaki making her fear it.
Very insightful
Definitely And it's gonna have a lot to do with later on in the show I'm sure
Even more when you realize that her quirk only works with humans, so training becomes even harder.
Maybe she'll be able to somehow help a certain someone that eraserhead knows. All I'll say
@@Alexanderthegreat159 Yeah, who knows. I mean, every cloud has a silver lining, right?
15 mins in and I just realized the todoroki beanie
they knew what they were doing with the music for this episode, the music they had when eri jumped to deku was just the perfect mood setter and still give me chills

@@josotothelastking5040 late but it’s might u
Overhaul's constant words of telling her that this is her fault, etc.... I feel this not far from real world abuse. Mental, physical, everything. It's like his leash, and it's so heartbreaking to see an innocent little girl being tortured like that and being treated as less than human.
The song is called Might+U, I always cry when I listen to it. 😭that scene was the most beautiful in the whole show so far. And now we know what Deku’s going to be like when he’s able to control 100% of his power. He looks so terrifying right before he lands the final punch on Overhaul!
If you read the manga then you might know 100% might not be enough.
MegaGreenkirby I don’t read the manga.
@@unicornburger16 Then I'll try to leave it as least spoilery as possible, but basically the villains go "plus ultra" and get tons stronger. Last chapter, which I haven't read yet, by the way, ends with the phrase "On this day all the heroes disappeared from the (city I think)." So yeah, stuff is about to hit the fan and Izuku is still at 20%
@@MegaGreenkirby So having just been told that Cody hadn't read the manga, you proceeded to leave loads of spoilers about it. Great. Very kind.
The scene in which deku saves eri, was already very emotional, then the music comes and hit you.
I Just watched it a dozen times now
Poor little Eri, looking like she expected to be hurt or punished for her power activating. But then the look of shock and hesitant hopefulness when he said her quirk is a blessing. But GOD don't you love when Deku got to go all out in the fight?! All those fists representing the rapid speed he was hitting Chisaki at, just like All Might against the nomu - but better, because he's not injured and fighting with a limitation. Can you just IMAGINE what he's going to be like when he gets older and trains himself more?! They brought in an animator from the MHA/BnHA movie to animate this episode in particular for the full effect and I LOVE IT!
Thats the guy who animated Saitama vs Boros. (:
Bro legit when you said:
"imagine being hurt all your life, you wouldn't be able to accept kindness but she did"
I actually started crying I just realized how much pain she went through and how hard it must have been for her to go into dekus arms
I like how you care more about Eri instead of mirio, many other reactor is just like want to torture eri more to get mirio quirk back and heal all might
NO ONE wants to torture Eri more for those purposes. They just hope she might be able to help.
The episode was truly a cinematic masterpiece.
Eri went through SO MUCH her entire life,
She only got kindness from deku that once and didnt even know how to act.
And then deku finally freed her from the endless cycle of dying so many times and that was just extremely emotional
That's the funny thing..All for one's theme song played when deku defeated overhaul lol just imagine how scary it would be if deku became a villain
Deku was the first person to ever say anything positive about eris quirk. Then they cut to a frame of her tearing up from hearing it. That Detroit smashed my feels
Not ashamed to admit both my mum and I bawled hard when the music swelled and Deku cradled Eri. As I manga reader they definitely did that scene so SO beautifully. I have to say, even with the top tier animation, that moment far outshines even Deku’s fight with Overhaul. BUT to touch on that, gorgeous animation, I can see where the beginning budget went lol. Another moment wonderfully done, but my only issue is the lack of continuity it had. They constantly jumped from Overhaul being torn apart to suddenly being whole in his huge monster form for a better show of power impact but it was jarring and really obvious. It was all added for some nice flare of course, but I’d prefer if they’d adapted it closer and kept in his whole monster form the whole time. ANYWAY, wonderful reaction, exactly how I was hoping!
They added extra action to pad out the exposition so they don't just stand still and DBZ monologue.
J Davis that I know, and am happy they did. I’m just bothered by the lack of consistency with Overhaul’s form. Being broken apart then suddenly reformed into the original one in the literal next frame. Not very professional honestly.
@@leere5524 that is becaue chisaki has overhaul
he is reforming himself over and over again so that's why deku in the end has to hit him so fast which basically is shown like tons of punches coming at him and then very quickly he punches him straight again to knock him out completely
its not lack of consistency its what overhaul's quirk is
@@jdavis7993 Good God knows I freaking hate DBZ because of that..
@@immortaldemon Yup! Well-said. All those punches aren't just some special attack move that Chisaki actually SEES all those fists, it's symbolic of all the punches in rapid succession just like when All Might fought the nomu and finally defeated it in the first season.
Overhaul has shown he's hard to defeat because whatever damage you do he can just undo and keep going, such as repairing his arm when he was hurt after Deku blasted off with Eri. So in order to beat him it's sort of like Deku fighting using Eri's ability - you have to go faster than the rewinding/reforming can fix it.
The moment when Eri landed in Deku’s arms, I completely lost it ❤️😭 Eri is so precious ❤️❤️❤️
if you mean that song that where Eri jumps into Deku's arms
Its called " Might+U"
I haven't seen the second movie but i hear it's technically from it, and they used it for that scene

Second movie heroes rising
I want Deku to try to teach her how to control her power. If anyone can do it, it's either Almight or Deku. The people who have enough power to destroy their body but yet possess the ability to control it. Maybe Deku can show her the egg trick😊
Not allmight he’s always been strong enough to handle it
Is that a Todoroki inspired beanie?! Cause i need one. Now!
I noticed that about 10 minutes in. x,D
i knowww i *need* that
The problem with Kai is that when he learn something, he doesn't change his opinion. That's why he became a villain.
How dare you cutting the scene with the breathtaking and amazing animation? It's like 10 seconds of content that you could cut away from a scene which isn't so important...
My friend: Hey let's do a try not to cry challenge!!!
Me: Ok, this gonna be easy perhaps.
15 minutes later.....
Me and meh friend proceeds to cry after watching this 😭😭😭😭
Oh wow I clicked this video randomly but in the beginning you mentioned Eri just wanted "to put everything back the way it was" I didn't realize that foreshadowing of her power until you mentioned that lol.
Actually, the reason the future was changed was not because of Deku but Eri. Nighteye saw the future where Deku accidentally blasts off at 100%, breaks his legs and dies at the hands of Chisaki but his Quirk could not have seen Eri's quirk because it literally rewinds time. Nighteye can't see time going backwards, it doesn't make sense at all for that to even happen but Eri is able to do that so Eri is the one who changed the future not Deku.
I'm sorry but Eri's quirk is to rewind people not the time. And I think both Deku and Eri change the future that Nighteye saw. Thanks to Overhaul because he explain the true power of Eri, so Deku finds a way to use 100% of One for All to defeat him.
@@luffymonkeys7876 She rewinds a person's time. That is her quirk. That is why her father disappeared, she rewound his time back to when he didn't exist. It's why Deku's legs are healed, she rewound his time back to when it was never injured. Nighteye can't see a person's time go backwards because by the laws of physics, that cannot happen. So, you are correct, Nighteye did not see the future where Deku goes 100% because he saw him break his legs and die but the one that changed that was Eri.
@@luffymonkeys7876 It is also why Chisaki says you could rewind a person into a monkey if used correctly because you are essentially focusing the time rewinding on a person's specific part, their genes, causing them devolve.
Love your Shouto cap ❄️🔥
As soon as this episode started, I knew the no crying challenge would be lost. That scene with Deku catching Eri and the soundtrack playing in the background was a killer combination 😁 just too good to ignore
When he gets Eri and he catches her and they hold on to each other and the song is playing, I stg I break down.. a lot

This is the song they will use for the "heroes rising" movie
ohhhhhh this is the wrong episode to try that with XD
For me, Overhaul just stole the show this season. I don't know where he came from, it's already season 4 and this was the first time we saw him but it's going to be hard to go back to the other villains now, they seem kind of underwhelming compared to Overhaul. Even how he went down, I mean Deku was at Infinite 100% and Overhaul did not back down... that's a real villain right there.
@DarnellOB98 It didn't seem like it to me. He showed more balls than that emo kid with the hand on his face.
@@Lorenzferus Next episode shows how that plays out. It's just like Midoriya, Shigaraki is learning as he goes as well and having someone like Overhaul threaten him is exactly what he needed and he learns from it. There's an arc in the manga called My Villain Academia that is a huge amount of development for all of them.
@@Khay-77 Well, I haven't seen any of the manga or anything. That would spoil it for me, but maybe you're right. Maybe the villains do get interesting.
@@Khay-77 Shigaraki is shit compared to Overhaul from a villain perspective and power perspective right here. Later that changes for shig's change in story but he's just not a very well brought character to me. Overhaul beats him in design overall too. Overhaul will be back though, I'm stoked. Waiting for the big 'jail moment
@@donaldwithington7253 This entire arc was character progression for Deku and Shigaraki. Overhaul isn't coming back...he has no hands thanks to Shigaraki...
Melissa: I'm going to try not to cry.

In my opinion the greatest thing about the Deku vs Overhaul fight was it gave a glimpse into Deku's future and what he could become if he keeps training
*Midoria hits Chisaki*
Chisakis' mask: I'm out
One of my favorite reactors reacting to one of my favorite episodes! I really enjoy your reactions and I hope one day you will react to Fire Force since its a really great show
So, the deal with Overhaul, and why he hates quirks so much, can be linked to the subtext of his dialogue, behavior, mode of operation and flashbacks.
Consider how he treats Eri, calling her a thing that kills people. You seem to understand that he might be projecting onto her - that is partially correct (the rest being his overall hatred of quirks, which of course is linked back to his projections and treatment of people).
The way he seeks the lowest of the low and calls them trash, forces them to wear masks that removes any semblance of an identity, plus his treatment of life and the need to set emotions aside, these all really show that Chisaki only put what he learned from the boss and "gained" loyalty with his alleged heart - that he views living things as a tool and that they are sickly trash unworthy to live, himself included, as he breaks out into hives when he uses his quirk.
Horrible man, but with a traumatizing childhood.
In his flashback, he was all alone as a boy named Kai Chisaki. His horrifying quirk must have annihilated his parents, as it seems Eri's did, and created this traumatized perspective of quirks being a disease he needs to eliminate. You can see his hatred runs deep in the way he breaks out into hives and voices disgust when using his quirk. He also doesn't like people touching him as seen when he blasted of Compress's arm. Possibly linked to the way his parents died.
As for heroes, he only sees their existence as a sickness of the mind - a byproduct of quirks that inspire people to, as he puts it, become something they're not supposed to be. To him, Mirio losing his quirk affirmed this belief that all the hard work Mirio put into being a hero was made to waste in a flash.
As you can see, Chisaki is a dark character, and arguably the most complex villain in MHA - perhaps even the whole story imo.
The anime didn't adapt this part, but it's explained in the manga,. In universe, there is a theory that quirks are a result of a kind of plague that mutated human genetics and spread much like the black plague, via rats and other pestilence.
Chisaki, even as a kid was a germaphobe and this idea that quirks are literally a disease of the human condition is just that, a Disease in need of a cure. I have no idea why they omitted this part during his explanation of Eri's quirk (when he comes out the hole in that monster second form)
His dialogue acutally has him calling quirks a disease but its comes off alike a throwaway line without the "quirk plague" theory mentioned.
SO there is that. not sure if they are retconning it in anime because I don't think it was Ever brought up in the manga ever again...
Rivaliant I’m sure I remember seeing something about it in a small flashback style scene in Season 1 I believe? I’ll have to go back and check.
Chase Ambrose Ah, apologies then, I must have thought the plague theory had been shown in the anime.
I love the scene when Eri rewinds Chisaki back to his original form😊
The reason Nighteye's visions couldn't be changed was the unidirectional linear nature of time... In other words... Time only moves one way.... And as such the past cant be changed....
Eri... Approprately enough.... Changes that.
Mind you she can only change things a few seconds at a time....
But lives are forever altered in a few seconds
YES! She has never felt a loving touch in her life. She has only felt abuse and fear. She has never been given a warm embrace....until Deku and Mirio.
So, just realized, the episode before Eri says 'I don't want to hurt anyone' because of that focus, its possibly the reason why she managed to focus on not 'hurting' Deku and healing his injuries instead to remain full HP rather than rewining him limitlessly, maybe, who knows!
Deku: Super Sayian Blue, Consecutive Serious Punches!
"My goal is to get through one episode without crying" me immediately: You, girl, picked the wrong episode for that. cause I'm a tough bastard and I fucking bawled my eyes out in the Eri scene.
If you notice at the end there with Nighteye. He smiles. The biggest pre-requisite for Sir Nighteye accepting someone to be a hero is if they could make him smile or not. Something Deku couldn't do... Until that moment. That's when he recognizes Midoriya and sees the wisdom in All Might's decision.
While I'm used to hearing them voiced by Justin Briner (Izuku) and Emily Neves (Eri), those scenes made me cry, too.
It is fascinating how towards the end when chisaki is staring at deku. .. you can see the fear in his eyes as he looks at deku like a monster.... It's pretty interesting that they put all for one's theme in this moment.
he could use 100 percent but couldnt because of the effect it has on his body meaning, he has to train to handle it
So just wanted to say her quirk isn’t undoing people. It’s literally rewinding time just like they said it’s because she’s young and can’t control it that she ends up rewinding people to before they exist. Chisaki breaks her down and rebuilds her before this can happen and that’s how he turns off her power. Also I feel like the reason the future changed wasn’t because of Midoriya’s unwavering will, but because Eri decided to help him. Remember Nighteye’s quirk sees the future and Eri rewinds time so if she rewinds that affects the future. That’s probably also the reason why Nighteye couldn’t see a future past Midoriya getting stabbed it’s not because his future ended there, but because after that moment is when Eri jumped into his arms and changed the future when she started to rewind. Just my thoughts though.
Who would have thought a tortured soul running into the arms of a hero would make someone cry.
I just realized Eri clung to Mirio's cape like she was clinging onto her last shred of hope.
Honestly your astute commentary makes me appreciate this episode even more. Which I never knew was possible lol
I can tell immediately you are so genuine and lovely. Subscribed.
i like how ur unphased by Deku's consecutive normal punches.
From the second Deku grabs Eri she never leaves him until she is safe
show of hands who wants deku's mom to adopt eri?
LOVED this reaction! Can't wait for the next one!!
I hate that no one sees the subtle Nighteye´s smile at the end, it´s so meaningful
As an overhaul fan....
I dont know what to say about this reaction...especially when deku saved eri
Maybe there'll be a future episode this season where you don't cry, but this was not that. XD
Also, I think you hit the nail on the head when you said Chisaki doesn't understand the value of human life. He was born with a quirk that lets him disassemble and reassemble things including humans - to the point he can kill them and bring them back to life like with Rappa. Somewhere along the way, he stopped thinking about what it really means to kill a person and he put the person he respects most in a coma simply to get him out of the way until he repairs him. ... And he thinks the old man will thank him for this. Yeesh.
Also, pretty sure when Izuku explained (rather comically) to his mom that he'd gained a quirk, he was talking about it as a mutation, saying it was rare but not impossible (since his mom has levitation and his dad has fire breathing and he somehow got a superpower quirk).
POV: You're watching this in 2021
This song is literally the anthem of BNHA.
and to think that's not even dekus final form in a sense lol.
also one thing to clear up the Yakuza boss wanted Overhaul to simply look into and figure out her power so the boss could then help her but once Overhaul learned the truth he took things into his own hands
When he asks her to lend him her power, all he needed was that slight grip from her for confirmation. Without words they formed a bond for her to be free. She was so strong to jump to deku, she was even stronger to stand up to Overhaul. It was just a fight of ideals, she had to see if she was worthy of being saved, if she was worth all the effort. As it unwinds we can see it easily from the outside, but people trapped in that hell they are so broken they can't see the light without someone reaching out.
Kerrage and she’s SIX
She’s gonna be the number one female hero when she gets older with that crazy op quirk and her insane amount of courage
Forget never teaching her how to use her quirk, Overhaul never even told her what her quirk was.
He probably just told her she was cursed and she will kill anyone who touches her and that he was the only one who could prevent that.
The scene where he holds on so tightly to Eri gets me so EMOTIONAL EVERY TIME

It's interesting how few people react at all to him asking to feel her up. I've heard one cringe while another called him a creep. The rest just cut past it (meaning no reaction), or played it with little to no reaction.
When did he ask that??
