Collecting Bottles From The River

- Here I search the river for collectible bottles that have worched out of the river bank and been swept downstream. I also use my homemade underwater viewer for a little while. I find some milk bottles and explain what I see as it pertains to nature, animals, wildlife, dumps and how to best search them.

Thumbs up if you think Chigg looks cool wearing the RayBan Wayfarers!!! 👍👍👍
Aqua Chigger, My dad worked for Elridge Dairy when I was born, he drove a milk truck for them and that was 1957. In Hagerstown, Maryland.
The big insulator is very collectable, Beau. Go back and fetch that one!
Aquachigger you are really fat
"chigging" should be in the urban dictionary for water hunting. lol
Likewise, "Chiggling" when the Chig laughs.
Where dose Chigg keep his gold coins?... In the river bank!! Haaa
Hahaha the crawdad was awesome! Best laugh of the day! Thanks man
I would have a hard time leavingany bottle behind whether it's a screw top or not!! Especially the blue Noxema one!! lol
I suffer from anxiety and depression, and this is just refreshing to watch. Thanks for sharing
Me too. His calm way and longer videos like this help take my mind off of all that stuff. At least for a little while.
ryantrench I know what you're going through, I hope you feel better soon.
ryantrench I'm the same. Depression and anxiety. I'm hooked on the chigg
me too
Me too lol
Coming from a newer city it amazes me the selection of bottles that are available to you. Those botles with slight chips would have made my day! Great video keep it up :)
I like when your videos are longer
Matthew Martinez Me too.
+Angelina Dugan I do too. 😊
I do too! So relaxing at work, even just to hear the nature sounds.
Nice milk bottle finds! I have found a few I made a viewing device similar to yours using two number #10 tins tops and bottoms removed, duct-taped together with a round piece of plexiglass on the bottom, and a handle attached. While I was going up a river years ago,, a fisherman scolded me for poaching with a gaff, he thought, until I showed him my old bottles.
Another one enjoyed. Great adventures in your Playlist to keep me entertained. Thanks, Beau.
I love your enthusiasm
Wow really loving all these Aquachiggers videos lately ! Can't get enough of the Chigg ! lol
I used to love cream off the top on my cornflakes when I was a kid. That's when we still had milk in glass bottles delivered by the milkman here in the UK. I used to wake up to the sound of the electric motor and clinking bottles.
Can't wait for part two ...
And wanted to say ,these adventures are never too long 😁
I think if I were to go out bottle collecting, I'd bring an extra bag to cart out some of the trash I found. You know, in the spirit of "every little bit helps." I enjoy watching your adventures.
Go back for that insulator! That was awesome!
Nothing makes my day quite like coming home after a long day and seeing the chigg left me a new video.
to clean that bottle spotless from the inside you add lemon juice, dawn soap, mountain dew and water.... you will be amazed
tastes less well!
Love ya Chiggles
When you said Quahog all I can think is Family Guy!!
looking forward to part two enjoyed part one neat milk bottles and the wild life living in them... good luck... BigfootDigger
I love all your videos! Thank you for taking us along, and your hard work.
You're killin me, Smalls! I would've loved that insulator! Ah well, guess I'll have to get my butt out there and look for my own.
They make polarized lenses specifically for cloudy OR sunny light. Incase you didn't know this. Jack Erskine used to make both of these.
"I know the video is going to be terribly long already." You make it sound like a bad thing! It's definitely not! Today is Dec 15. It's 23 degrees, snowing and blowing like crazy. Your videos help stave off cabin fever! Make 'em long Chig!!!!
Love your videos btw, forgot to mention that, but I really enjoy your content and sense of humor. can't stand some of the other people who do similar vids but yours are always very well done and I really appreciate the historical information that you include about the items and what they are. I'm down in Tampa FL so no chances of finding any of that awesome stuff down here so I have to live vicariously thru your videos lol. I suppose I could travel over to the east coast and scuba if I had the equipment and try to look for coins and such but no cool war stuff for me, Anyway keep up the great work and looking forward to many more. take care man.
Can you make a video showing all your collections of things you have found??
Ben Moore He usually does a showcase at the end of the year
I would love a showcase of his lifetime collection
You should make a video showing how you clean your bottles
I remember when I left that comment, about using the sunglasses lens, as a UV Filter! I guess it doesn't help much! Great video Beau!
Hey Aquachigger your polaroid glasses have to be horizontal to work! has to do with how there made. Thanks for the adventure's
Man oh man, you left some nice ones, I liked that tall skinny one & the medicine bottles. Good job
I found a new word! " cattywumpus" . It will be my word for October. A very fine word. Thank you and I dont even need to hold my breath. Much. 😉
when I was young My father and I were using a 10 gal tank in the gulf of Mexico as a way to see in the water and using a sane net to pick up star fish and some other types of fish but interestingly we saw a octopus scurry into the mouth of a tall boy beer can we picked it up and looked inside and there were tons of octopus babies inside of the can along with the grown one we left it out there but it was pretty cool to find...no relics just fish and stuff was still fun.
I like that the guy kept the scare on the recording 22:03
Many landfills (pre-Solid waste Act 1965) burned their garbage as a means of reducing volume. Perhaps the burned bottles were from that type activity. Great vids!
I saw some questions on cleaning bottles. The best way "not the safest way" I've found is soaking them in the works toilet bowl cleaner. I put them in five gallon buckets and pour it on. leave them in there for a couple days. they wipe clean. BE CAREFUL WERE THICK RUBBER GLOVES, DO THIS OUTSIDE, DON'T BREATH THE FUMES, WEAR GOGGLES FACE SHIELD COULDN'T HURT.
I live near the Kalamazoo River in Michigan and there are local groups that organize "clean ups", usually in the spring along the river banks. Our waterways are getting better. Northern Michigan is much better, maybe they were never as bad as the more populated areas. The Kalamazoo was awful when I was growing up because of all the paper companies dumping waste in it. It was white/milky green...could not see the bottom. I always thought that my fingers would fall off if I touched it. There are people that would love the bottles you discard. People also buy old glass shards to use in art projects. It would help if you could post the coordinates of where you are hunting, so others can collect.
do you ever bring any from of self defense on these river adventures?
crawdad cola, scary good, startlingly refreshing!
That swimming hole where we went magnet fishing used to have all kinds of old stuff but it was very clean today.
You totally should've kept that spark plug!!!! Some of those are rebuildable, and VERY valuable!!!!
Love the feature length vids, Beau!
Old washing machine ringer...pre-spin dry cycle era. lol
From the Wampole and company bottle, OH, the in intrigue: "
Philadelphia, April 25, 1908 Charges
of defalcation and misuse of his firm's funds, made when the body of
Henry K. Wampole was found on September 8, 1906, in North River, New
York. after his mysterious disappearance from a hotel in that city, were
recalled this week when Albert J. Koch and S. Ross Campbell, his
surviving partners, filed an answer in Court of Common Pleas. No. 5, in
the suit of Henry S. Wampole, administrator of the Wampole estate, for a
full accounting by Koch and Campbell. A brief history of the firm is
given in the answer, telling how it was organized in 1886 for the
manufacture of pharmaceutical and chemical products."
Old dumps were frequently burned prior to being capped with clay. That's why you find so many melted bottles.
This is one of my favorite channels
Yessss! Love it when you look at the bottle
Coupla nice finds, that Eldridge bottle is very cool. I don't mind if the vids are long, as they are usually interesting, informative, and amusing. Heh! Looking forward to the 2nd half of this bottle-hunting vid! As always, GL&HH, and PLEASE travel safe! d8^)
16:58 Hey Hey!! laughed to hard at that
At 5:01 when you find the horseshoe there looks to be a burnt piece of wood directly above the horseshoe you are holding. To the left of it towards the top of the screen looks to be a bottle neck poking out of the mud...to the left of that is a pair of probably broken glasses sticking up out of the water....maybe. Good luck my friend!
Some nice bottles, getting blown glass bottles is a good sign we have 1800's sake bottles from Japan in the bush here.
Can't wait for my Chigg T Shirt to arrive!
Great Vid! Very good finds! Need to get back out to the rivers here in Colorado and search. Starting to cool off here tho. Keep up the good work
Also, any bottle with hexagonal sides are very collectable, even old screw tops but the better ones are cork top. So, the shape and designs of the bottle or on the bottle, ( raised lettering ) make them collectable.😉
The insulator definitely has collector value if it's glass.
Glass insulator collecting - one of the first things I learned on the WWW - along with "Barbie Trivia".
I like the view finder. That’s neat
Your a great teacher, so smart..and cute lol
I jumped at the same time as you did because of the crawdad in the bottle . Ha Ha
I like your longer videos. Thanks for making these, been watching for about a year now. maybe one day ill do some Junk hunting of my own, but more importantly, id like to get on the rivers one day. I used to go rafting once or twice a year, absolutely loved it. your videos remind me of it so much, so thanks.
I was reading in the comment just now and someone asked about seeing your collection. during the winter when you have some down time, you should make a video showcaseing and explaining your favorites within your collection, I say favorites and not best because sometimes the story makes the peice and not the value of it. Just a small suggestion.
Just wondering with places like this with so much garbage and trash is it just pointless to use the detector at all? Even on particular settings, say if you were looking specifically for silver or gold coins ? Thanks I'm a new hunter with detector although been collecting bottles for a while.
I feel like I've been given a sub tour of the river with Chigg's Face Freeze Prevention™️ device. I enjoyed the trip.
Great Vid....the item with the crank is a clothes wringer from an old washer... :)
Mr. Aquachigger I would like to let you know then I really love watching your videos who learned a lot and even though I'm old fat and gimpy I just purchased my first used metal detector and cannot wait till spring thank you sir
Someone may have already said this but you probably needed to rotate the glasses 90 degrees over the lens. Looks like you had it rotated vertically. You can see the polarization change if you tilt your head 90 degrees while looking through them. The orientation matters with polarizers.
Hey Aquachigger, love your videos. you rock man, if i still lived in the south I'd be doing the thing.
Love watching you! Love how you have a different way of saying Bottles from us in Louisiana!!!
Thank you Based Aquachigger
30's & 40's ISN'T old? Man Cattywhompuss is older than that. LOL
I live near an old town but I live in Florida so if I attempted to go in the river I would probably be eaten by a gator so I have complications :)) But I would love to try this somewhere else
Type in your youtube search bar *Jay Diggz*. He's in FL and finds amazing bottles. I haven't seen him in a river, it's on land hunting. Perhaps you can ask him for tips or, just learn by watching his videos or, both.
With modern milk the cream is separated out and used for other purposes. Making butter for instance
Another great video! Thank you!
Hey Beau, have you ever thought using a reverse funnel design for your view finder? I understand perhaps to bulky for your conditions just an idea, Thanks buddy for the great videos. I watch you every Sunday evening. You give me a great feeling!!! Happy!!! Me and my brother went bottle hunting all the time years ago. He passed and you take me back to that time.
i thought that was a cool big insulator. If I had my own place I'd put that in my garden.
That mangle or wringer was clamped between a pair of concrete wash tubs. Clothes from the boiler or copper into the first tub of rinse water then through the wringer into the second tub, pull the plugs and back into the first tub ready to take out to the clothes line to dry.. Monday was wash day a heavy all day job for a woman with a family.
Cool bottles. I'd be happy with what you found if I went out bottle hunting.
No, that does help, I cannot see anything in the water. I love to watch you find them.
If your water meter is ever flooded out during rainy season, i use a large mason jar to see the meter numbers. Your idea is very good. I need to make something of the same sort as a viewfinder. I am an avid bottle collector and I would love to see your bottle collection if you haven't done so already...later
thanks for sharing.
15:10 ayyy I think I've got that bottle. . Chestnut Farm's Dairy, says "safe milk for babies"
had a small chipped glass one in my garage sale and this guy bought it for $25 and told us that there was quite a big community of collectors
I think I'm close to 200 videos in so far and have yet to see you get a milk bottle LOL.
love ur videos. I learn still from u that I never knew before. keep up the great work and great videos
Hello chiggs, the polarised glasses are sensitive to how you hold them. Try to hold them in front of the camera and turning them, you will se that they work for you. I saw that you held them from the bottom of the camera and that is of by 45 degrees.
Cheers Eric
Great video as usual. Moar
Can't wait to see the 2nd video Chigg 👀
that insulator was neat I would love some of those to use in my project's
love the bottle videos! maybe some more bottle dumps or a privy in the future? some are pretty collectable...the insulators too.
james roberts
Madison Galusha actually jimmy. just not a social media type of guy. didnt even upload a pic. arrrrrrg
that clam you picked up may actually have been a freshwater mussel, Lampsilis cardium, the Pocketbook.
THANK YOU !!!!
Yes that insulator is collectable! I know that you do not carry out broken glass in your backpack but if you are just walking in you might consider carrying a small 3 gallon bucket to carry out some of the broken glass. I tend to remove as much of the junk in an area when I know that I will be returning for another search. Thanks for sharing another great video. I enjoy your videos and look forward to the next! That is a ;'Wringer' for a older washer. LOL Good luck to you sir! ;-)
Beau doesn't carry out glass because it's far too dangerous. If he were to gash his leg open he could bleed out because blood doesn't clot in water.
Yes I am aware of that issue. What I was referring to was carrying a bucket when anyone is walking the banks not swimming in the water. He does carry out complete bottles just not in the water. ;-)
THing4CSA Hmm, you do know this part of the river was used to dump an entire city's refuse, right ? And it was dumped there for approx 6 decades. (60 years) I don't think a bucket would make a dent. The trash is probably as deep as 10' in places if not even more.
I understand that. My point is someone needs to start cleaning up the environment. I have never said carry every piece of trash out of any area. What I intend is to put the thought into every TH'ers head that if they have room in their trash bag/bucket to carry out what they can. Look at it this was if a trash truck crashed in your front yard and spilled out 5000 bottles do you just leave them there because there is so many or do you pick them up and put them into the recycle container to clean up your yard? Yes I do understand that there is so much there but what is better to ignore the issue or do what we can to fix the problem? I know it is easier for most to leave the problem for someone else to take care of, but don't you think that doing a little to fix the problem is the better route to take? ;-)
THing4CSA What they hell is wrong with you ? What do you mean if a trash truck cashed my lawn ? For the last time Beau is at a city dump. What part of that don't you get ? Since you're so concerned why don't you go shovel this trash ? 1000's of tons of trash, go on, get busy. Sheesh.....
We went to Tiby Island a few years ago and around the oyster bars the shells were in big piles everywhere.
good vid to make polarized glasses work you have to hold them horizontal
Polarized lenses work better the correct way round, Chig! If you'd held them with the frame across instead of up and down, there would have been a more visible difference to the reflected glare. Do a google search on how a polarized lens works!
How do you clean out any of the bottles that you find? I find em all the time and don't know how to clean em
Coin98 lemon juice dish soap Mountain Dew and water to clean the inside
Coin98
Good you tube videos on bottle cleaning.
Long bottle was probably an oyster bottle. Insulators are collectable.
I live in Colorado Springs, near fountain creek, theres alota interesting things in there. ima Rockhound i dig for Crystals and Agate types. I find alota agate in that creek. found an old safe to big n heavy to bring home. plus i dont have a car. i walk usually everywhere on foot. :)
Yes, the cylindrical bottle is worth something. Many bottles are collectable just because of their unusual shapes or colors.
Hey Aqua, is that a bottle you didn't see at exactly 5:41 Lower RHS of center?
[round 13/26 oz looking].?
