9:55 the biggest issue with the episode order is that “See You Later, Elevator” is played after “Suck it up!” in the dvd, which is extremely inaccurate as originally, they’re 16 episodes apart.

I hate how so many shows do the "zoom in for widescreen". The worst show to do it imo is seinfeld. In the episode "the Hole", where the gang gets mad at a pothole, they zoomed in and never tilted down to the point where you can never actually see the hole. There are other times where they talk about things that just arent on screen. Anyway, rant aside, tbh idk a thing about this show, but I still enjoyed the video, and you made it presentable to a non HTF fan. Liked!

1:08 I honestly think it would be a great idea to make a video addressing the reasons why Happy Tree Friends couldn't get a second season on TV. I think we can all agree that the franchise was never the same after that.
Watching this just makes me want to create a custom definitive blu-ray set that contains everything in their original aspect ratios AND have the TV series be one seamless experience (rather than fully retain the credits between each 3 shorts, to save disc space and give more bitrate to the audio and visuals).
Makes me glad I bought Complete Disaster when it was still $20. It may not be perfect but it is nice having it up on my DVD shelf with the Overkill set.
the cramped aspect ratio used for the TV series is the exact reason why im making an FLA recreation project discord server for it and also why i made some concepts for it made way before i made the discord server
I will *never* forget my introduction to "Happy Tree Friends"! I was really into internet forums in the early 2000s, and would be typing away in the living room as my 2 kids, around 4 and 5, would watch cartoons on Netflix. One day, my son walked over and tugged on my sleeve saying, "Daddy, this cartoon is scaring me!" I look at the TV, and what I thought was a generic cartoon, had a character getting ripped to shreds with blood, bones, and guts spilling everywhere! I immediately hit "stop" on the remote, and my daughter whined, "Hey! I was watching that!" At that moment, I knew that I had to especially keep my eye on her.
Apparently the box art not containing Splendid was a mistake they themselves realized, as the 20th anniversary release of that picture does include him heroically flying in to help (though it may be a bit late for that).
The way the TV episodes were formatted on older HTF DVDs is pretty similar to how US Thomas and Friends VHS/DVDs were formatted. On most US Thomas VHS/DVDs, the intro and credits play only once, with intermissions between episodes, unlike the UK and other countries where every episode has an intro and credits. The widescreen issue is also a problem for season 6 of Thomas, which was the first season to be shot in widescreen, but the first 6 episodes were shot in 4:3 with some widescreen shots, while the remaining episodes were all widescreen, besides two episodes which both have one random 4:3 shot. So when the first 6 episodes were released on widescreen, they did the same as what happened for the HTF TV episodes. Just some interesting observations.
This makes me think of the Sonic Underground Complete Series DVD release. The dull menus. The lack of Bonus content. So I totally get the frustration. ;w;
I got this set back in 2016 bc I wanted to work with the episodes in HD (mostly the tv ones tbh). But yeah the way they forced the 4:3 episodes to 16:9 was lazy compared what they did to the "classics remastered". I def recommend watching a vid called "how TV screens made watching movies worse" by Noodle, super interesting topic talking about aspect ratios (make sure to watch the 2D version lmao) Also, idk if this was the disc I got, but after I converted all of the episodes into 4 separate mp4 files (for the 4 separate discs), it had some sort of really weird visual artifacting around the eyes, specifically the outline. I dealt with it until 2022 when I finally decided to find better files for the episodes. Plus I can actually look for a specific one now, and not scroll through one of the 4 files i had.
I've never seen Happy Tree Friends but this is a great video, loved learning about it. Also, slightly correction, but DVD's are 480i or 480p, not 720p. Also yeah, they REALLY should have included 4:3 as an option; either as a seperate release or just the other side of the disc in the same set.
Another funny thing, iirc is that they released this dvd just as they were making a couple more episodes and then the show came to an end with those last few episodes released right after the dvd came out, and I kinda wondered why they didn't just wait for the last few before making the dvd
I live in Germany and my Ex girlfriend gifted me this DVD when it came out. I didn't know that it was only released in the US. It must have been a real pain in the a** for her to get her hands on this DVD for me I guess haha 😅

9:25 well basically, WLIIA and SYWWBY didn't get classic remasters which is why it isn't in the discs, and from A to zoo, it did get a classic remaster, but somehow didn't make it in probably because it was a 7 minute episode combining 2 parts of the episodes and maybe they don't know how they can put set it in the disc, they just did that in overkill third strike bonus features but somehow they don't in the complete disaster
Complete disaster has several classic remastered versions that were never seen prior to its release and to this day are not officially available online. I think they just didn't feel like making ones for those episodes.
It is unknown if they got remasters, but if they have, they are not in the set. I'm just saying that there's no known reason why those specific episodes didn't get added to the set.
The thing is, from what I can tell this DVD wasn't released at retail, only online. You'd have no way of knowing the thing even had a slipcover until you already bought it. I'd get it if the set was released in stores, but I don't think it was.

super good video!! i have a bunch of the dvds at home too LOL (mainly jp releases). have you ever considered making a video covering irl htf events? one of the merch images you showed (the one with the socks) is actually from a japanese in-person event for the tv release (iirc). and japan had a couple other in-person events for htf, one of which had a popularity contest! its a lesser known subject to the fandom, so i feel like itd be fun to show every that, yes htf events existed, and yes, they missed it (LOL)
I do have plans to discuss the in-person expo and other convention appearances, as many of them are very poorly documented and for all we know, somebody might have pictures of these events. It would probably be in a video about HTF lost media, as there's a few major cases of lost media in the series.
@@PlayWarioLand4 oh! so for the japanese events, ive actually researched into them a bit. so theyre not lost media, you just gotta search things up in japanese. but for expo events, im not sure. my htf research was focused on jp merchandise, stores that sold said merchandise, and the events orz
They're not exactly lost media as there's plenty of pictures, but we still don't know the exact layout of everything, and there's no guarantee we have everything there is to know. Though there are events that are seemingly 100% lost despite officially being confirmed to have happened.
@@PlayWarioLand4 true true. its hard to get a grasp on everything. like i said, ive seen pics of the jp events as well as dates and locations (such as which animate buildings they were held in). but finding actual event layout is super difficult.

Get Overkill. It has the most content and generally won't cost more than 20 bucks or so. There's a UK exclusive box set of all 4 TV volumes that's not too expensive either. Of course, you could always just join Russell, if you catch my drift.
@@PlayWarioLand4 much appreciated I've seen the DVDs that come in Overkill sell for more than the set itself and almost made a bad purchase unknowingly lol

When you decide to watch a disaster
Not just a disaster. A COMPLETE disaster.
I have the 3 old dvds
Yay!!
As far as the older DVDs its a little overwhelming what would you suggest has the most bang for my buck
13:12 why would you bring HIM back.
I'm putting him in every video from now on. My art won't go to waste.
16:24 am I the only one who is in possession of one of the HTF wacky wobblers?
Idk why I eat sh like this up. These are things that absolutely no one should give a damn about, but I find so interesting.
I'll just get the overkill DVD winter break and the complete TV series
This makes my heart ache 😔
7:55 but you could edit this kind of thing in about 5 minutes, it wouldn’t require time or budget.
The wide screen makes it all seem like amateurish mistakes of not using space wisely
They did that beaver dirty
Woo-hoo!!!
yayaya new video!!
