I own several of these mics so I knew they'd all sound excellent. In most situations if use most of these interchangeably. Obviously the 4080 has a wildly different profile than the others but it brightens up really well with EQ. The 5040 is the most hi-fi of the bunch to my ears but I generally use the 4047 and 4050 as overheads.
The AE3000 is my personal bang-for-the-buck winner of the comparison, so much cheaper than the rest but right up there. Also great for snare, toms, hihat, great Allrounder! Kind regards
Thank you, I am using 4 Falcon Eyes soft light LEDs hung from the ceiling around the kit + a small additional LED light above my head + another panel on the floor in front/diagonal to the kit. Kind regards!

An extra detail I'm interested in is the exact make of your Falcon Eyes or size and/or power in Watt or Lumen if you don't mind and happen to know?
@@TJDrumsRHCP There's plenty of options for LED lighting, in the end it also depends on your room & basic light situation (daylight/tungsten etc). I use the falcon eyes SO-28TDs, they might be to weak if you have to set them up further away from the kit though. Kind regards!
Hi Sem, the 4080 is a ribbon mic, and has considerably less high end than a condenser absolutely. I have used the pair as stereo room mics quite often in the past (sounded great), and it might also be a cool overhead option when recording in a room with high ceilings because of their figure 8 pattern (many studios like to use the Coles 4038 ribbons for this too). Unfortunately my ceiling in the home studio recording room is not really that high. But I agree, the ears are more used to the sound of a condenser mic in that application, and the AE3000 does a terrific job at the pice range. It is a super cool snare top/bottom mic and would also work nicely for toms, a swiss army knife so to say :) kind regards!
@@semdallinga69 I have never tried that, as I only have a pair of 4080s, and I guess it would be difficult to use them on toms as they are pretty big :) I am also not sure how well picking up the tom sound & rejecting the rest of the kit would work with the figure 8 pattern on close tom mics. You'd probably end up with a lot of cymbal bleed on the toms. I would use the AE3000 any day for toms though :) Kind regards!

I also have an idea to make a stereo pair AT4080 for room recording, You said that you used it quite often and the result was great, What are you using for room stereo recording now and why you switched to another mics? I find the AE3000 more pleasant and consistent. For overheads here . I’m not a producer , but that’s my opinion .

4050 wins it for me
4050 is/was my favourite also together with the 4051B (which has the same capsule design as a small diaphragm as far as I know). Kind regards!
Which variant of 4047? SV or MP
