Azam Nizami 28, is a young Qawwal of Hapur Gharana who continues the legacy of his forefathers and father Janab Ustad Khaleel Ahmad Nizami.
The family embraced this soofi music form centuries ago and was bestowed the title of ‘Khas Qawwal’ by the Peerazada of Dargah Nizamuddin Aulia.
At Kintu Parantu with Sheeba Aslam Fehmi, Azam talks about the art form, the social patronage and what it takes to be a young qawwal rooted in an Old tradition of Spiritual singing.
