Lyrics
Well I'm a honky tonk man
And I can't seem to stop
I love to give the girls a whirl
To the music of an old jukebox
But when my money's all gone,
I'm on the telephone singing
Hey hey mama can your daddy come home
Well now I'm living wild and dangerously
But I've got plenty of company
The moon comes up and the sun goes down
I can't wait to see the lights of town
'Cause I'm a honky tonk man
And I can't seem to stop
I love to give the girls a whirl
To the music of an old jukebox
And when my money's all gone,
I'm on the telephone singing
Hey hey mama can your daddy come home
Well I'm a honky tonk man
And I can't seem to stop
I love to give the girls a whirl
To the music of an old jukebox
And when my money's all gone,
I'm on the telephone singing
Hey hey mama can your daddy come home
Hey now, a pretty little girl and a jug of wine
Well that's what it takes to make a honky tonk time
With the jukebox moaning those honky tonk sounds
I can't wait to lay my money down
'Cause I'm a honky tonk man
And I can't seem to stop
I love to give the girls a whirl
To the music of an old jukebox
But when my money's all gone,
I'm on the telephone singing
Hey hey mama can your daddy come home
I'm a honky tonk man
And I can't seem to stop
I love to give the girls a whirl
To the music of an old jukebox
But when my money's all gone,
I'm on the telephone singing
Hey hey mama can your daddy come home

Dwight Yoakam, a country music sensation and cultural icon, stands as a cornerstone of American music history. With a career spanning decades, Yoakam has woven his way into the fabric of our musical landscape with unforgettable classics like "Guitars, Cadillacs," "Fast as You," and "A Thousand Miles from Nowhere." His unique blend of country, rock, and honky-tonk has earned him a dedicated fan base worldwide.
I met Dwight yoakum at don fox park in Lebanon TN and I was 12 13 he was so surprised that I knew who he was and what he did. Got to talking about sling blade and everything. He invited me my bro and uncle to a party, but my mom refused to let us go.... And that was the last day I told my mom anything
Lol.
I got to meet him as well 6 years ago
😂 if only😂. Lady u will spend the rest of life kickn urself
The less mom knows , the more we get to do…
So he wasn't an a hole like in sling blade
Proud to be from Bakersfield too. What a gifted musician. 👌👌🎶🎶🎵🎵😍😍
Dwight isn't from Bakersfield. He's from Pikeville, Kentucky! Go Big Blue 💙
LOVE the Vegas/casino theme here. Especially cuz he actually dated Sharon Stone, who starred in CASINO.
Hello Rebecca!
Great honky tonk song. One of the best! I love this video! It's cool that he's gambling in Las Vegas at the end. I love those casino signs.
Dwight is great! He was awesome in the Crank movies too as the lecherous Doc....lmao!
soo fun

Still kicks ass in 2021. Timeless, Dwight-thank you for sharing your music with us.
Damn right. Cheers !
Yes sir, you know it
And that's the truth!!
and 2022 Im a honkey tonk man...
Now it's 2022 and it's still kick ass lol
Now that's what you call country music 🎶
Yep; and he embraced The Punks all-over... even in Holly"Weird". so, he embodies the REAL spirit of a Rebel, without all of that exclusive/racist/"no outsiders" bullshit, I-tell-you-hwhut, Buford.
Only Dwight can give this old Johnny Horton song the justice it deserves
He is The Only one who can Do it Good
100% just came here to post this
Is there such a thing as a 110% pure country music singer ?? If there is
then this man is it !! Hes the real meal deal , indeed.
No doubt, yet his band was very rockabilly. What makes a great country sound imo.
They were first considered too rock back in the day when he went big, but it's his music that I still remember... I started with early country in the 80's as a kid and went to rock/alternative. He is honestly the peak of country music and darn it he's just that good!
Happy meal
+ cornbread and a glass of milk.
@@Aint1S Actually, too country ... he was doing an authentic country thing at a time when Nashville was all caught up in syrupy, stringy schlock. The punk kids loved him though, and that's where he found an audience.
I’m still listening to this song in 2024. It’s a classic of barroom country, and I like it.
Just went to his concert and let me tell you, he still ROCKS!!! Even more than ever!
Still listening to this amazing man in 2023. I grew up with all the good ole fellas from the 80s & early 90s country and Dwight Yoakum was one of my top favs. He made those jeans worth looking at 😊
That is no lie holy smokes! Real men wear those jeans😊
Not a big country music fan but Dwight Yoakam is a great performer and singer. Love his music🎸👍
Check out Johnny Hortons version, the original. You’ll dig it👍🏻
I’ve always appreciated that Dwight paid tribute to Johnny Horton with this remake.
Not Johnny Horton, Web Perce

Overseas Germany late 1986..and this cassette is playing non stop in our makeshift barracks while shooting Tank Table VIII thanks to our fearless leader, Captain Steven Breen who just loved Dwight! We ended winning Best Platoon that winter..Thankyou Lt Colonel Joseph Sutton for all the "Honor and Courage" Sir🇺🇲
Love this man’s country western style, seriously underrated, he’s one of the BEST 👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼😎

Dwight Yoakam, is legend singer this authentic country music
Dude he's an icon in country music. He was even a successful actor. Where have you been?
@@hoobaguy I know how successful he’s been. I’m saying he’s so great that he’s even underrated for who he is. He should be talked about in the same breath as Elvis. That’s what I mean when I say he’s underrated
❤❤❤. I Love This ❤️ Song❤
First few notes on the radio had my full attention. Went to store bought that vinyl n all he has put out. Pure hillbilly like me love him. God bless always
Pete Anderson and that Tele!
He sang Dixie
Straight from KY
@Dwight Yoakam🎵 are you the guy on sling blade who says “get out of my house! That goes for cocksuckers AND retards!”
That was my favorite line in any movie ever.
@Dwight Yoakam🎵 this is the weirdest place to impersonate the Chanel owner lol
This is the first song I listened to, it was a no brainer that Dwight Yoakam would be one of my top 5.
This is a great old song done well!
love, love , love Dwight, i remember when he first started, he was young, boy could he move his body in those tight jeans, i still love to watch his older viseos, with all his beautiful moves,
Hello Nancy 👋 Simple music can make you sing, a simple hug can make you feel, better, simple things can make you happy, I hope my simple hello will put a smile on your face..
Haven't listend to this song in years, but
the chorus of this song just gets stuck in my head sometimes, I don't know why, but I just decided to give it a listen tonight. So glad. God I miss 90s country!
AGREED! love 90s country ❤
What the heck happened to our Music...?! Lol ✌🏼✌🏽🇺🇲
What a beautiful song with nice memories still listening. How are you Lisa Hall ?
Same ❤
Technically 1987.
Dwight is so freaking cool! His voice, his moves, his attitude, his charm.
Yes I agree and a awesome singer
When my son was a baby I sang this and play his older brother toy guitar to make him stop crying. He always stopped crying and looked at me like "oh my God, this is my life now!"
"oh my God, this is my life now!" - he meant that in a good way, right? I know that I would have!
He didn't make it big in country because he didn't fit the genre the way they wanted. So he went to California and kind of made his own style which was successful but never really fit in with a mainstream style.
Legend!
Dwight follows in the tradition of Hank Williams, he's just as happy playing in a dingy country bar as he is on stage in Nashville.
I saw Dwight in Concert. What a performer. From beginning to end fantastic. I love his music.
Dwight Yoakam #1 country music artist

Ok kid I like his 🎵

1Phreebyrd It sure did! I'll always love his music! I'm wondering when he's coming back to Nashville? I wanna see him!
Except this isn’t Dwight Yoakam’s music. He’s paying tribute to the late great Johnny Horton.
Dwight Yoakam - the best country artist of all time
I'm not even much of a country fan, but this song along with some Hank Williams are bangers!
Who else feels like having a drink now after listening to this
6:45am and yes this just triggered my inner alcoholic
Hey man, I'm trying to quit, Well, made it to 7 days, I just can't stop listening to good drinkin' Country music.
Only discovered Dwight about 1 year ago and have played his music non stop since can't get enough.
I love Johnny Horton, but man this version is so good. Dwight is simply wonderful.
Big fan from Scotland, loved you in crank doc
And when my moneys all gone, im on the tele-phone, singing heeeey mama can your daddy come home? USA Baby
he was so young in this video but damn his voice is as good as ever. Really love Dwight's twangy voice. Awesome singer, writer and actor.
have been a Dwight fan from the time his first record ❤
Me too.
This record was suitably retro in 1986 when it came out. Modern country was too modern and this was perfect, still is.
We saw Mr Dwight Yoakam back then at Massey Hall. We waited outside his bus after the show. He didn't come out but he sent out some signed pics and we were delighted.
He Is Nice Met at a Concert Place in My City 8 years ago He was Very nice to me
Dwight is the best thing that has come out of Kentucky since Col. Sanders Chicken and Bourbon
Saw him sing this live at Outlaws and Legends. 😍💃
I was waiting for the honky tonk man too enter 😂😂😂😂😂 wrestlemania

I always felt Dwight was under rated and underappreciated. Been a big fan since the 80's. My go to song is "Fast as You" Never gets old and stands the test of time. Dwight is a country music legend!!!
Wow!!! A young, young D-wight! he's eye candy here!
Yeah, but even now...he’s still gorgeous! Those bedroom eyes never change! Not to mention that cute little butt!
He reminds me of a C&W version of Prince. ❤
I LOVE this song!! Thank you for this awesome post ♥!
Johnny Horton's smiling somewhere.
Oh mister Dwight…how I love you. 💕.
Funny, you’ve been simply a part of my life, since I was, 12?
But it was not an overt obsession with you…let’s liken it to this:
Someone goes on a trip to Las Vegas.
another goes on a trip to Bakersfield.
Thing is, overtly, it would appear the person who went to Vegas would have a better time, yea?
Well not so fast…seems Bakersfield is visited by this person frequently…so incredible nostalgia forms. And you find yourself drawn back there, time and again. 💕.
You ARE the Bakersfield trip.
It carries more weight. SO DO YOU! You ARE AN incredibly talented musician and artist. I feel honored every time I sing your songs. They bring me joy, love, fun, lots of dancing, and singing as I learned, so many years ago from YOU. (Well, and the JUDDS).
I’m trying to get TACHI PALACE to book me a few weekends…to cover your songs. People NEED nostalgia. And memories of being made to feel good. By you. I only hope, if they agree, that I could perform in a way that FULLY honors YOU! *grew up in Kerman/Fresno/Clovis, ca. Now in Slo county.
Any who…you’ll likely never read this….but I wanted to put it here anyway…much love
Hello Robin!
Hola Mr.Robin 🌹🙋

❤So ❤Love To Meet the Awesome 😎 Dude 🎉
When I was a little girl I turned this song up!! 🎵 wanted to be a cowgirl Lol 😆
Dwight Yokam 💟 miss the 80s so much!!
I'm basically a metal head but i really miss this era of country music. Todays country music is garbage and the singers aren't even "country".
She left Dad's things outside the door. I came I went . I shall come again.
I really loved Buck Owens songs....then 0'le D~W came along!!! I'm a #1 Fan...
Now that’s true country music not this bull Sh__ they make now day’s
My favorite individual country artist of all time. Awesome voice and performer.
I'm working as a dealer when we did this video you can see my face right over Dwight's hat that's when I had hair lollll
This is such a cool music video style

One of the coolest damn country songs ever. Both Dwight and Johnny Horton versions are excellent.

that radio sound effect was cool, searching through the stations, and you come across honky tonk man right as it was coming on, i love this kind of music vids becaus3e of the radio sound effects lol. you even had some interrod and heterodyne in there too which made it cooler sounding. and i do a lot of dx listening myself too. love it guys.

I was a toddler twisting my leg to this song at the rodeos. 3.5 decades later, here we are.

Sooo young,what a little cutie..love ya Dwight
I love Dwight. I am a yankee. However I love country music.
Hello Donna 👋 how are you ??
yall dont know how obsessed iam... it should be illegal
First time I heard this song was outside Brunswick GA in the 80s I thought "this Hilljack has to be from the deepest American south" found out he is a fellow Ohioan product of Columbus city schools and attended OSU. (of course he has southern roots) So now instead of thinking about the deep south when I hear this song I think about the deep south side of Columbus. With big obnoxious street signs aka KOSSUTH Ave FRAMBES St WHITTIER Ave etc...as REAL hilljacks come north look at you from their front porches ready to blow your brains off with their guns
That music playing that Honky Tonk sound I can't wait to throw my money down cuz I'm a honkytonk man!!!love Dwight
follow that kiddos real clas act dwight yokam!
Went to his concert in Colorado on Thursday, he played this song, absolutely love it
Dwight has this sixth sense about covers. Knows what suits him and what's gonna have the most mileage to them. From Everlys, Parsons, Beach Boys and Lefty.
Just saw him on an old HeHaw episode w/ Johnny Cash and this was the song he played...it was so nice I"m here to watch it twice🇺🇲
He's got it going on
Dwight my MAN!🥰🥰🥰🥰❤❤❤❤❤🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰❤❤❤❤🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰❤❤❤🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰❤❤❤❤🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰❤❤❤❤
I went to two of his concerts and im latino i love country and he hits like no other bad ass straight from Bakersfield California

Dwight hasn't disappeared. In 2024 he's busy performing in a national tour. Dwight has been a radio DJ on SiriusXM since 2018. His channel is called Dwight Yoacham and the Bakersfield Beat (Channel 349). It's one of my favorite channels on satellite radio.
Have tickets to see my favorite country western artist this August, 2022. Been a fan since the early 90's🎸
Dwight is just epitome of cowboy coolness
Well hes pretty far from a cowboy, but definitly cool as hell!
I think this is his best song from guitars and Cadillacs!
Folks welcome to Country Music at it's finest. Love some Dwight.
WHAT a Great singer!! NEVER tire of listening to his music!
Dwight Yoakam could play guitar that's for sure
